The same thing has happened to me.

I called my ISP they said they foward all ports.I play on PS2 and use a wiureless modem, but connect an ethernet cable directly from it into my ps2. I've >NEVER< had D/C problems.

I called a GM in POL they gave me their macroed responses:

"Open up ports UDP-XXXX-TCPXXXXX"

Me:"But I've never had this problem before all my ports are opened, this has only occured since the last patch"

GM: As I said earlier, we use dynamic ports so EVENTUALLY you will have D/C problems because you have ports blocked. Could be days, weeks, months even years.

Me:I'm talking to my ISP as we speak, they want me to let you know no ports are blocked, you are an incompititant customer support agent, you use macro'd responses, and that you will feel bad knowing you're wrong once your supervisers inform you that the problem is YOUR SERVER side, not Roadrunner's connection or modem.

Systemmessage: Your session with GM Eisbrecher has ended.

I >HATE< YOU GM EISEBRECHER!!!!!!!!!

I am from NY on Verizon DSL connection, with a Netgear ProSafe Firewall/Print Server Router, also with a PC and PS2 on the router. I have never been DCed with the PC, but with the PS2 I get a FFXI-4001 error which is usually a Firewall interfering. But I have all the ports that needs to be open on that router, the thing that I discovered is that on the days that is hot and when the router gets really warm to touch it kills my PS2 connection but not my PC connection. Yet to figure why that only affects the PS2 and not the PC.

From when I started the game last november, I used to have common disconnects. Sometimes hours would go by, sometimes only about half an hour. Received would drop to 0, giving me the first sign it was coming, so I'd ALT+TAB to escape the full screen to get back in quicker.

A few months ago I discovered a cure for this problem of mine. Right at the PlayOnline Viewer login screen, there's a tab called "Network Settings." Once inside, there is a setting called "Connection Check" which is by default Disabled. By enabling it, my connection problem cleared and I could level up white mage in groups without fear!

At first I hated it but I liked it, it gave us a chance against those JP provoke bots. Now they fixed it..gah that's so stupid...too many people complained...>_<

I get disconnected at least once per day, usually about once every 4 hours. Like others said- S/R drops to 0, then I wait for about 5 minutes (literally) for the game to give up and give me the disconnect message.

I'm on a cable modem, currently no router, just cat5 from the modem to my NIC. The IP lease time is 24 hours, so no problems there. No problems with any other apps, just FFXI. It's really starting to **** me off. Like someone else said, it seems to happen most frequently when there is a lot going on, like at the AH or surrounded by tons of mobs and PCs. Not that big a deal when I get disconnected in lower jeuno, but a huge pain when I get dropped mid-fight...

First of all, everyone please stop posting about every time you get disconnected. There are allready about 20 posts covering this now. I don't think this is the place to post about every time you get disconnected and how bad it is and how it is or is not SE's fault.

I thought it was great the way NMs and other mosters spawned "Claimed" for a second or two and then became free. It made things a whole lot easier for non-bots and European players like me who has a noticable dalay in sigals. Now it's an Issue to be "fixed", i say (| No, thanks |).
D/C like mad since patch.
# Jul 06 2004 at 2:03 PM Rating: Decent
Since the patch, I've been disconnecting like mad. my S/R goes to 0, and then I wait 5 minutes for it to disconnect. AIM doesn't disconnect, teamspeak doesn't disconnect, but FFXI does, at least 3 times a day. I'm on MSN DSL with a Barricade modemrouter, only ports open are the TS ports, and the AIM send ports.

truthfully, ive only been DCed twice. none of them have been since the last update, but actually, (this is kinda embarresing) i got kicked off because i pushed shift 5 times in a row, which activated this stickey keys bull, and killed the full-screen mode. i was so embarresed lmao. but the other time really was because of the company running my DSL

Disconnects

Since the last patch the disconnections happen to me all the time. S/R hit 0, I can run around for anywhere from 2-5 minutes without seeing monsters or player characters.

Yesterday it happened about 6 times. The day before that only once, and the day prior to that it happened about 4 or 5 times.

There doesn't seem to be any discernable pattern to the disconnections other than that they started after the patch.

I play on a cable modem with a router and the problem only occurs in FFXI. Outside of FF everything runs just fine, even when I get disconnected in game so I know it's not my internet.

Sure hope it gets fixed in this patch.

Oh, right, so this is an ISSUE now.

I am really starting to hate SE. They do this EVERY time. This was supposed to be a fix to kill all those damn provoke bots, but apparently the bots got all pissy and now they're gonna "fix" it back to the way it was. I LOVED having these things spawn red, as it actually gave me a chance to, for once, claim a NM myself.

Heh, I feel the same way on this one. I thought this was something they added to make things fair for everyone, but I guess they would rather please those few that sit around and make NM hunting impossible for the rest of us instead.

You're correct, i'm lying, i posted multiple times to prove i'm an idiot. I get error pages that after i click Post Message that says "Done with errors on page" and i refresh the topic and my post isnt't there, so i post again. Same thing, no post. Then they all post all at one time. Or it could just be my cpu, i can't read the forums at all on gamefaqs.

Wow i had no idea that so many ppl were having DC problems. I've never been disconnected ever, unless it was something i did, usually it's because i hit ctrl+esc while going for 1 hehe. I've never noticed anyone i was in a party with drop link either. Could Midgard just be unusually stable? ?^^?

i feel SO bad for you guys, and im usually not one to care ;) but thats besides the point. i have DSL through the SBC Yahoo! thing, and i have never gotten DCed since the update. the only time i get DCed is when SBC decides to s*** on the system and let everything crap out. that pisses me off, and unlike you guys who can just go right back on, it sometimes takes SBC days to figure out what they did. but about about everyone else, i dont know what happens to you...best of luck figuring it out! :P

OK
I get disconnected at random. It can be an hour between, it can be 10 min between. Let me tell you that THIS is really annoying.
However, I've tried to narrow down why this problem might exist.
I'm playing on a PS2.
I have Quest/MSN DSL, and I have a router, with all the ports forwarded, and just in case, I have the DMZ host up with the correct IP of the PS2, just so if there is any ports that I missed with the port forwarding, then the DMZ will make sure.
I'm using a Linksys router.
I have been disconnected when there is a CRAP LOAD of people near me, like at the beaches of the Valkurm Dunes, or at any AH.
I've also NOT been disconnected at these times.
I've been disconnected when there is no one around, and not when I have just zoned or something.
There seems to be nothing that I can find why I get booted.

When I do get disconnected, I get sent to the character select screen, after receiving the error message. First the S/R slows down, and the % starts to go down. Then I know that like in 15 seconds I will get booted.

At other disconnect times, like once a day, there is no warning at all, the dreaded little red circle appears over my head, but I can still talk and receive messages for a bit, but I am no longer able to move, or engage the enemy if the party is in a fight. Then very shortly after that, I am disconnected, and I get sent to the main POL screen and need to re-connect. Then I have to start the log in process over again.

Now...
I've talked to my ISP often about this, and they say everything about what it might be, and not a lot about what is really is.
I've heard a virus or worm, I've heard that they dont support the PS2, or a router. I've heard that they have electrical discharge in the area. WHAT??? haha...I just have to laugh at the excuses they use...rather than just simply sending someone out to fix the customers problem! I've even been sent to Microsoft's website, and forced to call them about this, not sure why, when I use a MAC!!!

So, I ask myself is this the only thing that is effected.
And the answer is an emphatic NO!
Why? Well, my computer also has the same problem at the exact same time as the PS2. Or even at random times when I am not on the PS2 at the same time. Where I'm trying to send IM's or emails, or just web-surfing.
Also, all my other online PS2 and PC style games have the same problem.

So, is this my problem? I've tried to figure that out as well. I've not had IM programs on when I'm playing the PS2, I've had a straight pass with no router to the PS2, I've tried to do everything with the cables, and the DSL's modem settings, and even with support from the ISP itself on the issue.
I've changed the connection settings on the PS2!

I have no idea what the problem is, but I feel that it's the ISP, and not SE, or any of the companies that I play online games with.

This has not increased or decreased in frequency since the last patch.
So, for me, it's not the recent patch that has effected me at all.

Just wanted to share that I feel as if I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of, and I can't figure it out, and neither can the ISP that refuses to simply send someone out to check the connections, when I had the same issue about 3 months ago, and it took SO much to get someone to come out and check the connection, ONLY to find that there was a PHYSICAL problem with the connecting server!!!

I pay how much per month? I use it how frequently?
I mean, if I was with another business type, and this type of situation happened, the business would be more than happy to not only solve the problem, but also give me something for my trouble. Like lets say I'm at a restaurant, and I want to order a burger, but the meal comes with no burger in the bun! Well, what do you think they would do about this??? My wasted time, I'm hungry, I'm not satisfied, and I could easily tell others about my problem and want them to not go to that restaurant.
They would do everything in the means to make sure the problem is fixed, and that I am satisfied.
Now I am not saying that these people are incompetent, or anything, but that these companies are just too money grubbing to care about ONE or TWO peoples problems, and just continue to pass the problem off, and not have to actually spend some of the millions they receive, just to make sure that EVERY customer is happy, or at least as happy as possible, and not having to sit through problem after problem.
Am I complaining too much? sorry...but I'm just kinda distraught that they dont seem to care!
