EverQuest Next Landmark Developer Diary: Crafting

Lead System Designer Michael Mann discusses Landmark's crafting system.

Sony Online Entertainment has released their latest Developer Diary video for EverQuest Next Landmark, this time touching on the subject of crafting. Landmark's Lead System Designer, Michael Mann, dishes out the information on where, what and how to craft in the game.

Michael talks about how players will need to create their own tools and supplies in order to survive, making crafting an essential cornerstone in the game. Crafting stations will be found in hubs throughout the world, and you will be able to create your own stations from these hubs as well. A special crafting station called an altar, which will enable players to create improved and/or unique items, will randomly spawn throughout the world. Once they are interacted with, altars will only remain available for a limited time before despawning and respawning elsewhere.

Players start with a basic list of recipes, but the bulk of recipes will be found in the world. The crafting process has three variations, and Michael's description of the process harkens more to an EverQuest style of click-and-make crafting than the EverQuest II tradeskill mini-game.

  • Activatable Items: Simply choose what you want to make, click craft, receive bacon
  • Cosmetic Items: Certain items, such as props and clothing, will have a list of pre-defined varations you can browse through and choose from before crafting
  • Stat Items: Landmark's items will be procedurally generated like its world. Some of these items are called relics, and you can restore a relic's power with shards. Once you have that restored relic, you can use it in crafting to add stats, as well as increase the chance of which stats the item will get.
