Today's Patch Message

Here it is: Update 2/12/2004 ------------------------ Tribute Update ------------------------ The Tribute system as it was released has caused a greater variance in favor distribution than was intended. In order to make the system more healthy, fair, and balanced, there will be changes made over two updates -- one today and one next week. The following changes have been made today: - Favor Maximum: There will be a maximum limit of 200,000 favor that a player character can have available at any time. If a player has accumulated more than 200,000 favor at the time of this change, the character will retain its favor, but will not be able to add to it until it falls below 200,000. - Favor Value Adjustments to Items: Some items have had their favor value adjusted to be more appropriate. For this update, this will not affect the favor amount that a player has gained by handing in items that have had their favor values adjusted. For next week's update, we will be adjusting each character's favor amounts based on any items that were handed in to Tribute Masters that have had their favor values adjusted. We hope you continue to enjoy the benefits of the Tribute system and Gates of Discord. In other words: Play, raid and be merry, for tomorrow we nerf.

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 24 2004 at 2:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I don't understand why people come on here to flame about new patches or nerfs, yet are still on EQ almost every day.If you don't like EQ (which I am assuming you don't,with your flaming)then don't play it! It's that simple! Please stop with the useless posts about how you dislike a nerf or patch, and if you have a huge problem with it,try contacting a GM to talk about it.Maybe they can help you.
Useless Expansion?
# Feb 19 2004 at 6:43 PM Rating: Decent
In my opinion,...GoD is very similar to PoP in the sense that without an uber guild,..and PoTime geared peeps,...prolly half of this expansion is not even accessable to most players. LoY has its benefits,..and at the very least ,..you can take a single group to any of its zones. LDoN of course was a new concept,..but a good one in my eyes. It took the edge of finding groups...and made accrued loot available thru a decent point system. I am a lvl 65 pally that has yet to see ALOT of PoP and i will not even bother with GoD unless i know i can access most of its zone and utilize what it has to offer. Let's face it,...poaying $30.00 for an expansion you cannot use is worthless. And i am certainly not going to spend that kinda cash on Sony JUST to legitimize a leadership point system to improve raiding. Its a nice idea, but it alone is not worth the money imho. So three cheers to those who can utilize GoD and all it offers,...but i do feel sorry for the other 75% of the player base that can't.

I hardly agree with your statement, GoD has the benefit that most of it is accessible without needing flags and other time demanding factors. I think its great that semi-addicts has a chance of getting EP similar items, without having to spend months of raiding for a single item. This expansion is worth every penny imo, not to mention the cool areas and new monsters to a change of scenery... Just my two cent.
CONFUSED!!

Ok,

I am totally confused as to what this is all about. I seriously don't understand what they are talking about (EQ) and what you are talking about - I know that the Tribute thing went into effect with GOD, but what do I do? I know I sound stupid, but please, clearly explain - I think I'm not getting the benefit of this Tribute thing at all since I'm not doing it. Thanks so much guys. Really appreciate your input and time with the answer. And please, no sarcasm. I'm asking out of pity. sigh.

Thanks again

Well here is the Basics of Tribute ....

I have not really meddled with it a lot but will explain what I have found.

There are Tribute Masters throughout Neriak (Use find in your home town to locate your local tribute master). You head over and right click on the tribute master (like you would with a merchant) This will bring up the tribute window where you can Select the Tribute bonus you want and you can activate & upgrade it from here. Yo 'buy' tribute bonuses you need to get favor from the TRibute masters. To do this you can a) give them plat b) give them items (all done through the same interface) They will reward you with favour points which are used to activate Tribute bonuses.

Once a bonus is Activated it will run till you stop it or you run out of points. Points are deducted on activation and every 10 minutes thereafter.

Hope this helps

personally i love the LOY zones, i was in the torg mins for an hour the other day and its great exp. it's a shame people don't use the LOY zones as much, Gunthak always has a large amount of people, and Dulak at least 5 but the other zones are pretty empty, but i like them, i dont get to them often enough.
Fair and Balanced!?!

Here is the quick lowdown on the Tribute donation system.
1.TRIBUTE NPC ACTS LIKE A NPC MERCHANT when donating. Remember this. Right click then find what you are giving away in your pack. Then click on the item you will see it works just as if you were selling off loot.

2. When you pick a benifit click on the upgrade to 'punch in' on the clock and downgrade to 'punch out' off the clock. Favor points go up with each upgrade and are posted.

3. Once you have a benifit in the ACTIVE BOX to the right. Just close the entire box and leave.
You are on the clock your benifits will continue to work untill you run out of favor points. So dont freak out you dont need to push a START button simply close the box to turn it on.

NOTE: the 10 min timer is a "Tick" and every tick you will spend however many points that benifit cost. SO IT WILL LAST A LONG LONG TIME IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH POINTS.

Here is my example. I clicked on a Improved Healing IV benifit which cost 29 points.

I had about 1k in total points when I started. After a few hours of play I came back and 'punched out' with 400 or so points remaining. I downgraded my Improved Heal IV till it was removed from the Active slot. Now I want to point out I went link dead and ran to the store earlier in the night. When I came back my Improved Healing IV was still working. That is what clued me in that you MUST turn off or Punch off the clock otherwise you will continue to spend your points. Gives a whole new meaning to slacking on company time. Nice way to get people back to the home towns. Oh btw you must use your hometown. I tried to have my Darkelf Neco use the Oggok Tribute master ( hey was worth a try ) and I was shut down.

Sorry folks I have to work in 10hours. Guess I have Timeclock on the brain but it was the only way I could think to give instructions. Hope it helped clear things up.

using tribute
# Feb 14 2004 at 1:58 AM Rating: Excellent
I have searched quite a bit and been unable to come up with any good information explaining HOW a person actually uses this tribute to their favor. For example today I turned in some odds and ends I had in the bank and got a few points. Then I went shopping like a kid in a candy store down the list. Took all that i could to teir 5. OOPS... you only have 10 mins of time left on these points you wasted and I hadn't figured out What i was going to do yet that night. Geesh what a bugger. Anyone got a link or able to educate us dumb newbies ( yea 3 years now and still a newbie) on how to actually use tribute.

Necromancer's Realm has an excellent guide to the Tribute system at [link=http://necrorealm.gotdns.com/tribute.asp?Page=1 .The cost chart on page 3 are too high, but it is a great primer!

In your everquest directory on you PC is a file that was downloaded with GoD. It is a .pdf file that contains the manual for the expansion. It has a nice (as far as everquest manuals go) description of how the tribute system works. Also has good info on the berserkers, leadership exp and skills, and new AA abilities. Lots of lore for the storyline as well.
