Its possible pacth the game and play the game at same time-- but the users will pay so much money that users can run to another game. If you want low price you have servers down... Ahh, of course, EQ its a good game, but only a game, real life its out the computer.

Downtime = A Global IRL Wake Up Session. Take this time to go to a book store, meet a friend for coffee, see a movie, take a nap (okay... a really long nap). Or you can sit in front of your computer slack-jawed and drooling waiting for that logon screen to connect (not sure which I'll do yet - heheh).
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 10 2004 at 8:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think most of u dont have a real life so u have to fall back on a online game to have any kind of life at all,U get on and play and think all the sudden your the king/queen of EQ when in real life your just a little burgar flipper at a fastfood place and no real life to speak of other than putting your big nasty nose up to a cumputer screen and thinking in your mind your the best thing that ever happend to EQ,Well what about your real life? Must not really have much of one, if all you have to do is play Eq,(no real friends or very few,no relationships or family matters) why dont you get out and take a real look out there and maybe just maybe you will see there is a life outside of Eq! or you just to brain dead to see that your wasteing all your time playing games to see that real life pasted you by and all the sudden its to late, your gone, and not a single person can rez your rotting corps to get your life back, and look what u have to show 4 all your time playing Eq, a lvl 65 something or other maxed out on AA points, WOW isnt that cool! your family and few friend will thank you so much for leaveing them such a memory and inharitance, you kids,wife/husband ect-- will always remember the 65 whatever you left behind for them,it will keep them feed amd warm all year through for the rest of there lifes. Now it time for u to be so proud of yourself for spending all that time playing online games and blowing of your real life,Bet you fell like a king/queen now! everyone`s memory is so proud of you lifes accomplishment! You must be so HAPPY! : )

It's funny that you had written this. 2 weeks ago, I was it Oasis and, for some reason, had a bug that caused all of the undead to come out of nowhere and attack me. Needless to say, I died when I was AFK for a couple of minutes. The poor loser, medding close to me, had recieved the brunt of the attack after I was gone. I then recieved a tell calling me an A-hole for not warning him of a train, of which I had no control over. After a few banters back and forth, he proceeded to tell me that he had a 55 or so alt character and could I say the same. I told him to get a life. Never recieved another tell after that. I enjoy this game but can only play for a few hours a week because I own a transportation company in San Antonio, Tx and in the process of expanding to Austin. So if that dork is reading this, and hopefully he is, CAN YOU SAY THE SAME!!!??? Welcome to the real world. I don't look down on anyone who plays this game on a regular basis, God knows I love it as much as the next guy, but go out and enjoy everything that life has to offer. And to that idiot from the Oasis 2 weeks ago, and I'm sure you remember me, don't use your EQ experience to try to cut someone down; it just shows how much of loser you really are.

im sorry your life hasnt worked out the way you wanted it to. Something must be bothering you to write this message , when you did, in the way you have. You might want to take some time out, and consider why you wrote this post. who were you speaking to, and why would you say it, would be good questions to ask.

Wow, aren't you quite bitter. Maybe you should go out and get an education. Your grammar has to be the worst I have ever seen. You are not one to judge people and tell them they need to stop what they are doing and look at the real world, when you obviously slept through school. Why don't you go and improve yourself instead of visiting a site to a game that you obviously despise? Maybe it is because you have no life and criticising people for what they do is all you have to look forward to in your miserable life.

Goodness someone who doesn't think people who play have a life outside the game... Most people who i play with are more than aware of the outside world, have wives, children, jobs, houses and play eq as a Hobby.

I take it you have no hobbies Mr Anon or should i say Get a life.

I for one think that having the servers down for a day can do ppl a world of good. Too many folks live in EQ and spend precious few moments in real life. I was this way for years and it was hurting my work and relationships. ITS JUST A BOX. The thing we all stare at for hours on end. A box. If you are outraged by this down time I might suggest re-evaluating the priorities in your life and asking yourself "am I doing right by my family, employeer, and friends". I was lucky enough to discover this a few months ago and my life has changed for the better. I still play...but its balanced out with the real world. So take this opportunity to go out, get some sun, call your parents, do some laundry....whatever....just dont dwell on it. LOL

While you''re out there experiencing real life, you might want to look up the word "don" meaning to put on, as opposed to "dawn."

Also, employer is not employeer.

Sorry, just couldn't resist. "If you're not superior to anyone, you search for things to make you feel superior to SOMEone."

Estimated downtime
# Feb 10 2004 at 7:39 AM Rating: Default
One thing that makes my day is finding out that downtime is normally within my working day, 11am - 6pm GMT i cant get to play then coz im working (or supposed to be) and finding out that even though the US gets all the games first a couple of weeks or months in advance from us that we get the benefit of having a new version playable by the time I get home.. So chew on that..
Bring on the downtime....

Downtime?
# Feb 10 2004 at 7:20 AM Rating: Decent
You all crack me up, complaining about down times and over runs on estimated down times.
Everyone thinks EQ is so bad for this. I dare you to spend your hard earned money on some other online game. I can't think of one thats even half as good as EQ, and see how much downtime you have with those games. Oh, forgot to mention the lag times you will get with all of these games also.
Even the older games still suck compared to EQ that have been around a lot longer than EQ has.
Patch times
# Feb 10 2004 at 7:01 AM Rating: Default
Well, being in the UK, the patches are always at 11.00am so today I will miss probably all of my playtime, given that it takes an hour or 2 to log in once the servers are up again. 'Our login servers are temporarily congested, please try again in a few minutes' is a joke!!! Few hours usually.

I like the idea of patches being at different times of the day - we all pay our money wherever we are - why should European players always have the best part of their playtime taken up with patches?

Why the Complaints ?
# Feb 10 2004 at 6:50 AM Rating: Excellent
Ok Now I'm confused.

Most of the People complaining are from the states, and as was pointed out should not be affected that much due to the downtime.

I am from South Africa and share my "Prime-Time" with a lot of other users not from the USA and we end up getting bored because there is almost no-one on when we are.

Now all of a sudden becasue there is a patch during this time these people that are never on are all up in arms becasue their time is now lost.

None of us Really affected are complaining. We have learnt to deal with it becasue we are hit by every Single patch (Not only the long ones). I never see the peeps complaining on when I want to grind (And my grind time coincides with the Patch times) So why are there so many people complaining.

I just find it funny that people will complain just in order to have something to complain about.

Consider This ... Had the moved this 9 Hour patch to 4pm - 1am EST Then you would feel what I am going through on a regular basis. Then I'd say Complain my friends.

For now I think Sony is trying to be as accomodating as they possibly can be.

And seeing as I am already going to be flamed for this let me add insult to injury.

I am so glad to see so many people complaining about Bug patches after Major patches. If we have so many Geniuses out there that can do better, Why are we all playing EQ ? Where are your wonderful bugless Patchless Zero-Downtime wonders ?

For those of who who love the game as much as I do and deal with the problems that we have to deal with anyway I have this to say

Keep going Be safe and Have Fun !!

10 * 6 / 2 + 8 - 2 / 4 = 9
Ok, now let's put in the order of operations.

60 / 2 + 8 - .5

30 + 8 - .5

37.5
Let's see...
# Feb 10 2004 at 3:53 AM Rating: Decent
Let's see.... Estimated Downtime is 9 hours... multiply by the square of the hypotenuse... add in the uncertainty principal... carry the one... got it!

OK, EQ should be back up at about 6PM EST, for about an hour, before the 1st patch to fix the patch...

Cya all online in a few days!

Prime Time?
# Feb 10 2004 at 1:17 AM Rating: Default
One person's Sleep Time is another person's Prime Time.

Some of us stay up all night to work, then come home to find the servers down, sometimes several times a week. (As I'm sure will be the case this week!).

Not everyone lives their life in the same time of day as you.

Try to think outside your own skin sometime. It will do you some good.

If I could get my brain outside my skin and still have it function I might try it, but as the case is, I can only think inside my own skin.

Heck I've got all kinds of time today, might as well reply. Why is it so selfish of me to ask that they patch from 5am to 7am one time and 1am to 3am the next? And what am I asking you for, you cant do anything about it? Really I'm just get tired of reading all the flame that people get when they complain about patch times. Now you know that some of us get hit harder than you do, Mr. Prime Time.

On long patches it really doesnt matter what time it comes down, it will hit most everyone. I have a problem with the 2 hour patches always coming at the exact same time of day. I get out of work at 6am EST (3am PST) and usually play a couple hours to wind down, then go to bed. The servers come down literally the moment I go to sign on, so I get hit with the full effect of every single patch. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but yeesh cant they scramble the patch times a bit just for little ol me?

what is the big deal?
# Feb 09 2004 at 7:58 PM Rating: Decent
Can someone explain to me what the big deal is about the servers being down from 3am to 1pm? Or hell even if they do infact run over to 5pm? If you stay up all night to play EQ you need professional help! ITS A GAME PEOPLE NOT A LIFESTYLE! Next its 13 bucks a month to play..what is that less than 50 cents a day? Hrmmm better the the lawyers out for that one you got screwed out of 2 quarters...dig in the sofa, you can make the money back.

(this doesnt apply to UK and other people who it is prime time playing hours for. However I dont see many of you guys complaining.)

Quote:
In this example, it would work out this way: 10 * 6 / 2 + 8 - 2 / 4 = 9

Your equation works out to be 37.5

You forgot the rules, multiply before divide, then add and subtract.

So to use parentheses it would look like this (as you put it):
((10 * 6) / 2) + 8 - (2 / 4) = 37.5

If you wanted it to equal 9, you need to change it to (((10 * 6) / 2) + 8 - 2) / 4 = 9 or same as (10 * 6 / 2 + 8 - 2) / 4 = 9

RE: Zyrr you are wrong.
# Feb 09 2004 at 10:05 PM Rating: Decent
they said 9 hours.....but the reality is closer to the figure described earlie (except for the hinky math).....37.5 hours of time devoted before it actually works the way they intend it!!!!!

There's a lot of new content being added to more than 32 different servers, so why wouldn't it take as long as or longer than the estimated 9 hour window? People who complain about this are either not in the tech industry or simply do not understand what is involved in managing an operation like Sony's.

As long as my chars aren't wiped, I say let 'em take as long as they need to get it done right. =)

So, 9 hours that's a rich one, any etimate on what day they come up ? Wed ? Thur ? Fri ?

Gotta love playing EQ, but as far as support reliability SoE's got serious issue's. Have they EVER actually made their own window ? just once ?
Here's to hoping for a miracle, but either way....I'll see ya sometime next week :)
Why Complain
# Feb 09 2004 at 6:46 PM Rating: Good
It is impossible to patch a game without the servers down. activating an Expasion is a giant patch, therefore, people can't complain unless they want the game to stay completely static, weather you like discord or not, the server needs to still come down for all patches, and im sure there was at least one thing, in one patceach person didn't like, plus the servers are down from 3-noon, most sane people, at least in the united states should be sleeping and working. If you can't play for 9 hours, so be it, get over it.
