Hardcore PvP Server Opens

There's a new server in town. Fear it. Here's the press release:

MAYHEM AND CHAOS REIGN ON EVERQUEST'S NEW PLAYER VS PLAYER DISCORD SERVER
You Can Run, But You Can't Hide

Life or Death is the Only Option and the Last Few Players Standing Win! Norrath is normally a very safe, secure land. We're changing that. As of December 19th, a new level of excitement and competition will be added to EverQuest as Discord, our new competition PvP server goes live.

This new server will only be live for a few short weeks, as Sony Online Entertainment challenges our community to discover who amongst them is the fiercest wizard or warrior. Discord is a hardcore Player vs. Player server, offering players fast-paced gameplay with the thrill of eminent danger and the agony of defeat. The battle begins December 19, 2003 and ends January 12, 2004 with the highest-scoring survivors proclaimed the winners.

Battles are fought to the death and the slain will not be restored or resurrected for any reason. Any character slain will be recreated as a newbie and will have to start all over again. Corpse looting is allowed, but you'd better hurry, as all corpses will decay in 30 minutes. Each EverQuest account will be allowed one character on the Discord server.

Players can reach level 50 with no Alternative Advancements, while an increased experience modifier will facilitate faster paced gameplay. Points are based on the victims, not the killer. Players can only gain points from characters that are within 20 levels of them and higher level targets will earn more points. The point total is distributed evenly between each person in a group with any fraction of a point rounded up to a full point. Additionally, if your character is slain, half of your earned kill points are lost. The top six surviving players with the most kill points on January 12, 2004, will be proclaimed victorious. The six victors will receive honors that will forever remind Norrath or their strength and bravery.

The victorious will be bestowed the following prizes:

  • A class-appropriate item will be named after each winning character in the upcoming EverQuest expansion, the Gates of Discord. As an example, a winning Ranger may have a magical bow named after their character, while a Wizard might have an enchanted staff given their name.
  • Each winning character will receive their named item shortly after the new EverQuest expansion, Gates of Discord, launches.
  • Winners will be allowed a one-time transfer of their character and all gear from the Discord server to another server of their choosing.
  • Winning characters will be awarded a unique title that distinguishes them from their fellow Norrathians. Discord is not for the weak or fainthearted, so there will be no in-game support; in other words, Game Masters will not be watching over your shoulder!

What if a leading class has a nonsense name, like zhknamnay, would they really name an item the Greatsword of zhknamnay? Good idea but it might not work...

O well. I just want to be the first one with that sword!

I may be short, but that doesnt mean i cant kill you!

Real question is why the hell someone would name them self that ( i mean there will be some ) but the people who win know there gonna win. And, if someone did win tih a name like that look at, Doljonijiarnimorinar.Everyone know that axe is the pimp ****, cause the name and the lvl 0 proc for like 150.
But besides all that if that person gets the item it will either be crappy or really friggin good and an artifact. like 65/45 with a 400 proc something uber like that you know and only one person gets....and if i played on this server i would make the exact same guy as my main so he could get the damn item him self :P and im betting thats what everyone else is doing.

~likis~
im out
damn servers are down and itsb can do our plan on the kael server :P

I'm not going to play on this server, but this new information does up the ante a bit. I wasn't sure from the wording before, but I guess it does appear that when you die you just lose all your levels and items that are on you at the time...and probably still have the stuff in the bank. But I still haven't seen any official indication of this rule or anyone who experienced it while testing. Anyone know for sure?

Game on,

Never mind, I see that it says that corpse looting is allowed, although there are only 30 minutes...so I assume this refers to your own corpse in case you die by falling froom Kelethin or something like that. Or if the person who kills you only loots a few things.

I would have edited my original message but when I tried the only thing in the text box was the title to the post...perhaps I did something wrong...

Game on,

In SoE's post about the PvP changes on the test "fallen" server, they stated only droppable items can be looted any no drop items will rot. I assume from what they hint at that if u fall from keletin u are regenerated as a lvl 1 toon with no gear and may not be able to loot your own corpse. They do call it ahrd core
limited time.............

because its a contest.......otherwise i would imagine it getting boring........now you have a goal to be the top killers
In game support????

"Discord is not for the weak or fainthearted, so there will be no in-game support; in other words, Game Masters will not be watching over your shoulder!"

Is there ever in-game support on any servers? I never see any GMs on my server at any time much less watching over my shoulder. It makes me laugh to see SOE thinking they provide in-game support. Get real.

I see GMs on Vazaelle from time to time...standing around with exclusive items and spiffy looking swords, showing off and never helping anyone...must be leftovers from UO...

It also means that no one will be able to cry cheating or foul play. That may be either good or bad for you depending on which end of the schtick you might be on :)
ugh
