Trion Interview Touches on Housing and New Zone

ZAM user Puremallace has pointed us toward a recent article on French site Mondes Persistants that appears to shed a little more light on Trion Worlds' future plans for Rift. While the bulk of the article focuses on the topics that were discussed in a Gamescom video interview (such as the post-50 Planar Attunement advancement system, Chronicles of Telara solo dungeons, the Master Mode and the new Warfront), a couple of other points jumped out at us:

  • Trion wants housing to be a finished and quality product. It might come out next year, but nothing is set in stone.
  • Trion announced that before Christmas they will open a new zone where invasions and other conflicts will have more of an impact on the game. If the model is successful, it will spread across Telara.

This new area is likely tied to Ember Isle, which Trion said at Gamescom will come out in two patches with a new zone and a new style of gameplay. The possibility that invasions could be more persistent and meaningful is certainly intriguing.

Persistent invasions... be still my heart! I was so upset when Trion put the Despawn Timers on the Rifts and Invasions, this would be a great way for them to make up for that. Let our struggles have impact and meaning, and I think you'll find that more people actually try and participate.

These are some great news! I love housing in mmos, hense I have spent some euros to expand my house back when I was playing Runes of Magic. I am really looking forward to see what it will be like in Rift. I also like the idea of new gameplay in the new zone.
