Q&A: Forsaken World's Gaze of Larex Update

We talk with Product Manager Clifton Chu about Forsaken World's upcoming content update, which launches May 26.

Perfect World Entertainment just let us know that the latest Forsaken World content update, The Gaze of Larex, will launch on Thursday, May 26. The patch includes a new dungeon, PvP arenas, the advanced Nightmare Carnival, the marriage system, a raised level cap and more.

To get more details on The Gaze of Larex, Staff Writer Paul "LockeColeMA" Cleveland went straight to Product Manager Clifton Chu for an exclusive interview. You can read the full Q&A after the jump!

ZAM: First off, could you give our readers some background lore to the game? What is the conflict between the gods and the playable races; why is the world “Forsaken”?

Chu: Forsaken World takes place in Eyrda, a world forsaken by the gods, who have either fallen or have left. With the absence of Eyrda’s guardians, a giant, evil dragon named Dysil wreaked havoc on the world, which united the five races of the land to defeat him. Dysil is now planning his second invasion and it’s up to the players to reunite the five races to drive back Dysil once and for all.

ZAM: The Gaze of Larex features a new, non-playable race, the Bruten. How did they come into the picture? And is there any chance they might become a playable race if redeemed in the future?

Chu: The Brutens are the local natives that inhabit the dark, outer marshlands of the Sleeping Jungle. Right now, they are under the dark influence of the ancient evil monster, Larex, who has taken over the Ancient Catacombs within the Sleeping Jungle, and they now defend it as it is regarded as sacred grounds. The Brutens won’t be a playable race and it’s up to the players to defeat Larex and free the Brutens from his control.

ZAM: The update promises a new underground dungeon and an increase of the level cap. What will the dungeon hold for players, and is it only available for those at the maximum level?

Chu: The underground dungeons to Larex’s lair will feature some of the most unique bosses in the game to date, which will require different strategies to slay them. Along with some of the biggest, most grotesque monsters in Forsaken World, parties will discover new levels of rewards if they are strong enough to defeat Larex. For the Gaze of Larex content update, the level cap will be raised from level 60 to level 70 and those wanting to fight Larex should only try once they are level 70.

ZAM: Outside of the dungeon, there is a new arena system coming into place. How will teams be matched up against one another?

Chu: For the PvP arena system, there will be 3-on-3 and 6-on-6 death match types. Balance will be up to each team; however there is a system in place to ensure that newbies won’t be mismatched against veterans.
