Turbine Announces Character Undelete Paid Service
If you've ever regretted deleting one of your characters, then you'll definitely want to take a look at Turbine's new Character Undelete Paid Service. You can now revive your deleted characters in both Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online for the cost of $19.95 per character.
According to Turbine, most characters can be undeleted, regardless of when they were deleted. So if you're really itching to play a character you got rid of a year ago, you should be able to pay $20 and get the character back without a problem.
It's important to note that paid service requests are processed in the order they are received. Due to the demand for the new service, Turbine warns that players should expect a longer wait than normal for the next month or two after launch.

What is a Character Undelete?
Have you accidentally deleted a character in the past? With a Character Undelete, Turbine will return the character from its deleted state and place it back onto your account!
How much does a Character Undelete cost?
A Character Undelete costs $19.95 USD.
What should I expect from the Character Undelete Process?
Once you submit a Character Undelete request, you’ll receive an automatic confirmation email stating that the Character Undelete request was received.
Once the Character Undelete has been completed, you’ll receive an email stating that the character update was successful. The payment method associated with your account will not be charged until the deleted character has been successfully returned.
Please note: The Social Sites (My.LOTRO.com) are still in beta and you may experience anomalies on these sites as a result of the Character Undelete process.
How long will it take to process a Character Undelete?
All Paid Service requests are processed in the order they are received. Turn around can vary greatly depending on the size of the queue. As this is a new request, we do expect that there may be a longer wait than normal within the first month or two of launch.
Will all characters on my account be Undeleted or just one?
This service and associated $19.95 fee will cover one of the characters on your account. You may undelete as many characters as you like, however you will need to submit a separate request, and pay the same $19.95 cost for each undelete we process for you.
What server will my character be on when it is Undeleted?
Your character will be on the server that it was on prior to being deleted. If you would like to move your character to a different server after the undelete process is complete, you can request a World Character Transfer by submitting a new ticket from our Support Website.
Are all my belongings returned with my character?
Your character will be returned to the state that it was in at the time of deletion. All of the inventory and equipped items that were on your character at the time of deletion will be restored with your character. The Character Undelete WILL restore your character with all of its experience, rank and quest progression intact.
Will Vault items be returned with a Character Undelete?
Vault items WILL be returned.
What will NOT be returned with a Character Undelete?
Things that will NOT be restored include:
- Friends List
- Ignore List
- Kinship/Tribe information and status
- Money and Items not yet detached in mail
- Outstanding auction items and bids
- Player-owned housing
- Player-owned housing items left inside a player-owned house (this includes decorations and items inside the storage chests, as well as items left in escrow)
- Items in Shared Storage bound to the character being restored
- Skirmish history
If my Undeleted character owned a house, will the house be restored as well?
No. When a character is deleted, their house is no longer associated with the character or the account. The house is available for purchased by another character. There is no association remaining after a character is deleted. Any other characters that had access to the house will lose that access. Any items in the house belonging to any character will be lost.
What if all of my character slots are taken and I want to restore a character?
Once the deleted character has been restored, you'll be presented with an option to select which characters to use at the character selection screen.
Can I undelete a monster play character with a LOTRO Character Undelete?
Yes. Monster play characters can be restored with a LOTRO Character Undelete.
NOTE! Two monster play characters of the same class cannot exist on the same account on the same server at any given time. This means that if you currently have an Orc Reaver on Landroval on your account, and want to restore a previously deleted Orc Reaver on Landroval on your account, the restored character will OVERWRITE the Orc Reaver that currently exists on your account on Landroval.
What if someone else already has my character’s name on the destination server once it’s been undeleted?
If the name of your restored character is already in use on the server, you will automatically be assigned a free rename credit.
The rename credit will allow you to rename your character by logging onto the restored character and typing /changename newname (replacing "newname" with the name you would like your character to have) into the chat window command line. You will only have access to use the /changename command until a valid new name is obtained successfully.
Please use the /changename command wisely, as this credit has a one-time use. If you make a typo, or choose a name you are not satisfied with, Turbine will be unable to credit a refund.
NOTE: If your character has been assigned a rename credit, the credit must be used within 30 days of the character being restored.
What happens if the character with the same name belongs to the same account as the character being undeleted? Does the character get undeleted with an automatic rename, OR, does the undeleted character replace the existing character?
The character that is on the server first always gets to keep the name. However, please note that when a character is deleted, it loses that “first” status, and the undelete process does not restore that first status.
The character being restored to the server always gets the name change. We won't delete one of the characters, and we don't check to see what account the current character is associated with. As the possibility that an automatic rename is required is built into the undelete process, there is no penalty for creating a character to hold the name and force the change.
If the name is not yet taken, please feel free to create a ‘placeholder’ character with the same name of the character that you are restoring. That way you can ensure that the name will be saved for your restored character. Once your deleted character has been restored, you can delete the ‘placeholder’ character and use the /changename command to rename your newly restored character.
Does my account need to be VIP to have a character Undeleted?
Your account does not need to be VIP to have a character undeleted. However, you must have a valid payment method associated with your account in order to process a Character Undelete.
You can add a payment method to your account by logging into https://myaccount.turbine.com with the same Username and Password that you use to log into the game and clicking on ‘Payment Method’. Then simply enter your billing information.
Does restoring a character affect my VIP status?
Restoring a character does not affect anything on your account other than the character being restored.
I have VIP status. Do I have to pay the $19.95 for a Character Undelete?
A Character Undelete is $19.95, regardless of your account's status (Free, Premium, VIP).
How can I pay? I don’t have a credit card, or don’t want to have my credit card on file.
If you do not have a credit card, or do not want to have one on file, you may use a pre-paid credit card (associated with your name and address).
You may also call the Account Management department and request that they process a single payment in advance, without adding the card to the system. Please be sure that you first submit the Undelete Character request, and then call so the payment can be noted on your request.
Is it possible to use Turbine Points from the Turbine Store to purchase Paid Services?
No. Major debit/credit cards must be used to purchase Paid Services. Pre-paid gift cards (such as a Vanilla Visa card) can also be used to purchase Premium Services. Turbine is in the process of adding more payment method options. There is no ETA on the new options as of yet; however major announcements will accompany the release of any new payment method options.
Is it possible to use Game Cards to purchase Paid Services?
No. Major debit/credit cards must be used to purchase Paid Services. Pre-paid gift cards (such as a Vanilla Visa card) can also be used to purchase Paid Services.

Does it matter how long it’s been since the character was deleted? For example, if I deleted a character a year ago, can it be Undeleted now?
Most characters can be Undeleted, regardless when they were deleted.
At one point I transferred my character between Turbine servers. Can it be Undeleted?
Unfortunately we are unable to Undelete characters who have previously been transferred between servers.
What if all of my character slots are used up and I want to restore a deleted character?
If all character slots are used up when your Undelete is processed you will be prompted to select which characters you would like to access upon login.
LOTRO Character Undelete Policies
This service will allow you to request a Character Undelete for The Lord of the Rings Online. Character undelete services are subject to Turbine’s Terms of Service, the LOTRO End User License Agreement and the LOTRO Code of Conduct.
Characters can be undeleted if:
A review of the players account does not reveal any Terms of Service or LOTRO Code of Conduct violations within the last six months of the character restoration request.
The player account has a valid payment method on file.
In addition to Turbine’s Terms of Service, the following terms and conditions will apply to all fee-based game services. In the event of a conflict between Turbine’s Terms of Service and these terms and conditions, these terms and conditions will apply.
It is the sole responsibility of the customer to ensure funds are prepared to cover all applicable fees for the paid service. All Paid Services are subject to a "No Refunds" policy. Please note that all paid services are subject to Turbine's Terms of Service.
