Is Justice Coming to League of Legends?

Riot Games plans to introduce a new Tribunal system in League of Legends where players can act as GMs by voting on punishments and reviewing cases. What are Chris "Pwyff" Tom's thoughts on the system? Read on!

Of course, there are a few problems with the Tribunal system that have yet to be addressed properly by Riot Games. Most notably, if a new case lacks the numbers to create a majority in either direction, I wonder if players will earn little to no IP just because their subject has not been on the chopping block for long enough to reach a consensus. As well, even though the rewards might be small, I can still almost guarantee that some players will see the Tribunal as being a quick IP recharge, and we might very well end up with a ton of these "fake" judgments.

In order to fix all of this, Riot should probably implement some sort of "judging accuracy" meter within all players that rewards consistency in voting properly in these cases. For example, if a player who votes for the maximum number of cases every day, and he or she votes accurately and properly each time, they should be able to generate a "trust" level, which should translate to higher IP gains. Players who constantly vote against the overwhelming majority the sole purpose of farming IP might eventually take an IP gain limit, or they may see a reduced number of cases they can access per day. Introducing something like this will definitely reward good behavior by the jury, while also giving players something to do while at work.

Ultimately, this Tribunal system is definitely an interesting opportunity for summoners to be able to show that we are a responsible community. Personally speaking, I still believe in having a few highly informed individuals acting as a jury for every case, because this promotes a certain degree of consistency, either way, League of Legends is set to be one of the few online games out there where players will be moderating themselves, and time will tell if this is a privilege we deserve.
