See the way I look at it is this, So what if we can't play for a day, I mean theres a whole world out there to enjoy, although some of it sucks. These games are just an escape not another life. SOE can have my 50 cents, so the next time I want to escape from this world, I can do it with no problems, some people lose the fact that this is just a game. I love this game, and SOE has skimped on a few things but if it wasn't an overall good experience would all these people still be playing? I look forward to playing tommorow night like I always do, and this one night off will give me a break, which everyone needs now and then. The game is only going to get better, so why not wait a day now and be able to ride those mounts, or fly an X-wing, or get you butt whooped by Vader in the future. I say One day is nothing.

---- this is to all the people who are ******** about the servers going down.

ok after you read that post you have 2 options:
1) Accept that the servers are down and go do something productive (******** isn't productive).

2) STFU and stop your subscrition to SOE, this way you won't risk loosing another 50 cents.
WHINERS
# Oct 08 2003 at 10:35 PM Rating: Default
do you like to play with the bugs?
NO SO STOP WHINING LITTLE WHINERS
i would rather play 2 months without bugs and wait a day then play 2 months with bugs.
Also people whining about paying 14.99 a month and losing $0.50 well wtf do u think the 15 bucks a month goes to? coffee? donuts? well partly it does but some of it goes to making new patches. why dont u go and work for SOE so u can install them quicker?
RE: WHINERS
# Oct 08 2003 at 11:00 PM Rating: Default
I would like Sony to put out a tested product so the consumer can enjoy what they are paying for. Popping a product out early to cover Advertising and R and D expences is poor business practice.

I would have waited 1 year to play the game with no bugs.

But Agreed 110% fifty cents and going a hole day without SWG is nada to raise a sweat over.

The graphics rock and when they get these cold starts figured out LOLOL we all be happy campers again.

But What The Heck is up with this shirtless crap I mean HA HA thats like saying a Dwarf is Sexah !!! =D

this is a little bit of a rant read it if you want

how the hell do you think there going to test
this they had it on test server for a while and they worked the bugs out. but then when you load it up and have a quarter million people try and downlaod the same patch from the same set of servers **** happen its not all there fault an unless they hire a quarter million beta testers there not going to be able to test **** like this theres a huge diference in mmorgs then there is in normal video games the standard video game gets tested and then relesed there will sometimes be small patches to work out the little things but something as big as this would cause **** with alot of things.

iam gonna leave this rant unfinished cause i am just to pissed off to finish it and to all those that whine ***** you and deal with it quit if you want but there will be about 10 people who buy the game for every one of you whiners that do actualy quit but most of you won't quit cause your all to eager to see what the damn patch fixed or wrecked anyways
50cents thing
# Oct 08 2003 at 10:19 PM Rating: Default
Although I agree that 50cents is chump change, if all 300k subscribers ask for 50cent refund that's a 150k hit on sony, which is something they'll listen too...

Someone asked the question "What kind of equipment are they using?"

The answer is "big ******* cluster servers" - if my memory serves me correctly they were in clusters of 32 machines per zone in EQ. I'd guess SWG is scaled similarly and this probably explains the problems they are having.

Basically I suspect that the code is not bugged (well, no more than it was before) and they are probably having problems getting all the machines up, synchronised and balanced across the network. For a major patch like this they'll probably be having to cold-start every machine, which adds to the problems.

They couldn't have "tested" this, not without duplicating the several hundred machines that make up the live network. These are industrial multiprocessor servers BTW (think they use Compaq, but could be wrong), and cost a tad more than your PC.....:)

I'd normally love a job writing or running online games - but right now I don't envy in the least the poor buggers trying to get that lot up and running!
DOwn time

I c both of your points completely but u know what its my opinion and don't tell me what I should be spending my money on its non of your business and if I am spending money on something and do not get service I will have a opinion because that is the nature of the beast if u pay for something u expect service not downtime!!!Btw its 14.99 not 14.95 lol
RE: DOwn time

It's a GAME! Go outside, read a book... Yea it's dissapointing but come on! At what? $14.95 a month, thats like $.50 lost for an entire day. If you can't afford that, you shouldn't be spending your money there anyway. If we ever meet I will buy you a soda and you will be ahead of the game. Geeze!
RE: DOwn time
# Oct 09 2003 at 11:39 AM Rating: Default

Sigh how come that some of the servers are still down? 07:24pm EST and still not all of the servers are back online.
It should not take so long to implement the patch.
What kind of servers are these?
The best thing is that when you lock in that you get the message that all servers are up except Bria but when you get to the char selection screen it shows you plenty of locked servers. I guess it is bad luck again cause all the servers I am playing on are still locked. That is just annoying.

Like anything else in the world vote with your dollars. If you don't like it don't go back. ie: Quit paying the 15 bucks, shut your mouths, and go away.

OR if you think you can do better, then write your own game.

# Oct 08 2003 at 4:17 PM Rating: Decent
So I'm gonna troll:

For the people who whine about SOE being too buggy and blah blah blah, here's a suggestion: quit.

For the people who praise SOE and say all new games are released with bugs, realize that this shouldn't be expected.

SOE is neither the devil or the light here. They suck, we suck for supporting them, and the suck again for letting us support them without losing sleep.

As for the patch, I was actually expecting more (not mounts or pcities).

weeeee, time to snort coke!
why whine?
# Oct 08 2003 at 4:15 PM Rating: Decent
The fact that you are paying for the game means you accept the bugginess. The fact that hordes of people are paying for and playing SWG means that the general population is willing to accept the bugginess.

If it's unacceptable to you, simply discontinue your subscription. I'm not trying to be mean. The suits at SOE are not reading your posts on allakhazam. Your posts here are useless. They are counting the subscriptions. Cancel it.

If someone discovers a way to create a MMORPG that launches with perfect balance and without any bugs, I might switch. Until then, I'm probably going to play SWG.

LOL. If you think WOW is going to be any different from any other MMORPG you are in for a shock.

MMORPGS are COMPLEX AND EVOLVING GAMES. THEY WILL -ALWAYS- HAVE BUGS... AND THERE WILL ALWAYS BE WHINERS MAKING THEM SOUND WORSE THAN THEY ARE.

WOW will have as many bugs as SWG, EQ, UO, AC, and every other MMORPGS has had. The only advantage Blizzard has is it doesn't have a huge publisher like SOE or EA to make them ship before things are somewhat finished (note the somewhat, MMORPGS are never finished.) That is why Blizzard games are often quite stable. Same thing with Microfot games (big mega publishers are evil you know... NEVER pre-order games.) Of course this also means they have much less resources to throw at the game. It's somewhat of a trade-off.

Bugs aside, WOW doesn't look very inovative anyways and actually is pretty much a copy of all the other MMORPGS on the market set in the Warcraft universe. Nothing very interesting about it... but that is likely because all of the great minds at Blizzard that were responsible for their great games in the past aren't with the company anymore. Their recent work has been much less ground breaking. Blizzard isn't the great studio it once was.

Those... "great minds" you refer to... are those the one's responsible for the War/Starcraft games?

Doesn't anyone know those are just rip-offs of the tabletop Warhammer/Warhammer 40k games?

Some great mind... can't even think of an original idea. -yeah. they used to work for Games Workshop, then they made those vid-games.

You misunderstood me. I'm not against voicing complaints at all. I'm suggesting an extremely effective way of voicing a complaint, one that doesn't fill up message boards with flames that annoy the people who still intend to play.

Scene around the conference table:

Boss: "Well, what's in the works for this latest patch?"

Smith: "Well sir, we're going to fix a long standing bug, and we're working on many others."

Jones: "We're going to add some content to the game that players have been asking for, as well as address some more bugs."

Johnson: "I think these burly men should be able to go shirtless!!!!"

I meant her post, not yours... yours was blatantly obvious. You sound more like an *******, where at least she isn't pissing off her affiliates. No further comments on yours.
