LOTRO's Producer's Letter - October 2010

In her latest Producer's Letter, Kate "Nereid" Paiz talks about what really makes LOTRO so good.

Letters from the director or the producer are always great reads because they really know what they're talking about, so players are always assured to get a ton of new information. Kate "Nereid" Paiz's Producers Letter for Lord of the Rings Online is no different in this regard, as she decided to talk to LOTRO's player base about Turbine's philosophy on making great MMOs, most notably being to:

  • Build a great game & consistently deliver polished game content.
  • Give players ways they can customize how to pay and play the game.
  • Make the buying experience as easy as possible and integrate into gameplay.
  • Provide responsive and reliable customer service for players.

Kate also goes into detail about some of the new upcoming content for LORTO, including "tasks," which she notes are a "new content type for all players to enjoy in the early game," a major revision to the Vault, new skills and updates for the Lore-master and Rune-keeper classes, and a change to the way Turbine handles the Mines of Moria and Siege of Mirkwood Expansion packs (this one was particularly confusing to most players when LOTRO went F2P).

All in all, it sounds like LOTRO is definitely still on the right track when it comes to MMO development, and we'll see how it goes from here on out!
