Hoth is an Explorable World in The Old Republic!

Thank the Force, one of Star Wars' most iconic locations is coming to The Old Republic

Thank the Force! The icy, barren planet of Hoth has been announced as a new explorable area in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Hoth is most famous for being the snowy location at the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back and for setting the bleak tone for the rest of the film. You remember right? It's where Han shows his friendship for Luke by putting him in the belly of a pack animal. Great film.

Some interesting facts about The Old Republic's depiction of Hoth:

1. Hoth is portrayed as having a lava core which provides warmth for subterranean life. This lava sometimes makes its way to the surface in the form of mini-volcanoes.

2. Hoth is said to have been completely valueless to the both the Republic and the Empire until a massive space battle between the two caused tremendous wreckage to fall on the planet's surface, including Republic prototype ships.

3. A pirate cartel was first to arrive on Hoth with an army of mercenaries and droids to begin scavenging the valuable wreckage, with the Empire and the Republic left to pick up the remainder.
