I agree, Sony should do a deal with dragon con. There's a big East coast contingent, and this is already a big gathering near that area, where many people would already be attending anyway. Indianapolis isn't really expensive.

Now Branson Missouri would be awesome!! I'd fly from Los Angeles just to do a costume convention in the music theater capital of the US.
East Coast Fan Faire?

Just a suggestion, East Coast Fan Faire in
Philadelphia Convention Center, its new.

Short hop from either NY or DC.

Atlantic City in New Jersey has some casinos btw.

Not sure why the big thing about casinos as a gathering spot tho.

Well I understand that it is a cost issue, however, I live in Council Bluffs, Ia, which is right on the border with Omaha, Ne. Home of the College World Series. We have 3 casinos here, Harrah's, Ameristar and Horseshoe. I wonder if they could pull people to Fan Faire from lets say Kansas City, Mo, Denver,Co, Chicago, Il, Minneapolis, Mn to name a few. Again the centralized location and the fact Sony seems to be infatuated with the 'gamblers' crowd, I think they could pull it off very successfully, and allow many many players who may never get the chance to go to Las Vegas for it, to enjoy it, since I am sure there "just a few" from the cities I mentioned above that play EQ also.
It comes down to economics

It makes sense financially:

SoE headquarters in San Diego, a short, inexpensive 1 hour flight (or 4 1/2 hour drive to Vegas if you drive like I do).

Turnout has been tradtionally very strong in Vegas - more bang for their buck without the added travel cost.

It's an inexpensive venue - Vegas, like most other tourist sites, is hurting due to economics, so you can get some sweet deals.

I've been to the Vegas FF 2 out of the last 3 years and yeah, it was fun and I gotta admit, it's nice to drop down to a casino to gamble or head out to a show, local bar or strip club for some shiz and giggles.

It was held in Atlanta a few years back and I had a great time.

Perhaps Sony might consider a "merge" of their event with other events?

Example, DragonCon (Labor Day Weekend) is one of the largest multi-media/fantasy/scifi events in the Country.

Sony had a panel there. They could simply make arrangements and have DragonCon "host" the Sony Fan Faire.

They would certainly attract far more attention due to the huge crowds, a great portion of which may be "fresh" and "new" potential customers!

If you notice, at the bottom of the Sony page (linked above) it reads:

"Of course you can wear a costume! In fact, we encourage it. Unfortunately, the hotel does not allow weapons (steel, wood, or any other simulated weapon that may pose a danger to yourself or someone else) in any public area. If you are found with a dangerous weapon in your possession in a public area, you will be asked to return the item to your room immediately."

At DragonCon, people were not being de-weaponized! After all, what good is a storm trooper without a blaster?!?!

Anyway.... to add to the above post, the items you get in-game for EQ are:

Silver: Lucky Dice – Test your luck with these magical dice wherever you go!

Platinum: Bridle of the Alabaster Jungle – Summons the spirit of the ancient king of the Feerrott jungle to serve as your mount!

WOW how creative that it's being held in Las Vegas.........AGAIN!! And to think for almost 11 years now, the people that go to the Las Vegas Fan Faire's are the ONLY ones that have kept EQ up and running so long. If Sony wasn't so cheap, maybe they would actually consider holding the Fan Faire in a more unique location, maybe a more centralized city in the country, and possibly meet and experience NEW players and gamers that have helped keep EQ alive all this time. Of course, we talking about Sony though, when all else fails, rake in the cash, **** on the customers.
