Bored Of Your MMO? Rejuvenate Your Interests!

With BioWare's Star Wars MMO coming out in Spring 2011, players will have to find ways to maintain interest in their current games until then. Read on for some tips from ZAM!

Check out some free-to-play MMOs!

If SW:TOR was going to be your last big MMO investment for a while, you can still save your money for it by checking out some quality free to play MMORPGs that can be found all over the internet. This is especially good for players who want to play games, but prefer to stick with MMORPGs. If you find a good free-to-play MMO that you can tinker with while waiting for SW:TOR, you can always return to that F2P MMO when SW:TOR takes a break for maintenance, or when (heaven forbid!) you need to take a break from SW:TOR!

Just recently ZAM hosted our 2009 End of the Year Awards, and if you're still puzzling over where to find some quality free-to-play MMOs, then look no further than our "best Free-to-Play game" award. Dungeons & Dragons Online, Runes of Magic and Atlantica Online are all fantastic MMOs that are free to play while still delivering that quality of content that most players expect only from a subscription based MMORPG.

And, finally, the number one way to renew your interest in any game…

Get your friends to play, or make some new friends in the game!

When it comes to generating new interest in your MMORPG, nothing works better than to simply bring in some friendly faces. Whether you're making new friends in your chosen MMO, or you're introducing some real life friends to your hobby, playing an MMORPG with acquaintances can turn even the most repetitive game play into a night of fun. While hardcore raiders have been stigmatized by mainstream media as being anti-social or isolated, these players could be playing not because they want that final piece of Tier 10 (although it is rather tempting!), but because some of their close friends are also logging in every day to play around and chat while they fight their way through the latest endgame dungeon.

Another cool benefit for making friends in (or bringing friends into!) an MMORPG is the fact that, if you share the same interests, you could all migrate as a group to SW:TOR when it comes out next year! At least you won't have to look too hard for groups if you have friends playing with you.

Ultimately, these are just a few tips to keep you going until SW:TOR, or Final Fantasy XIV (in March!), or World of Warcraft's Cataclysm Expansion, or Funcom's The Secret World, finally manages to make its way out the door. Just remember to have fun in your MMORPGs, and, chances are, you'll begin to enjoy anything you play.

Good article, but what do you mean by FFXIV in march? Is that when beta is planned to start or what?

or Funcom's The Secret World (for you optimists)

I am quite an optimist, and I can't wait for this to come out.
