Beta Release for my.ddo.com Opens Today

The free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited may not launch until tomorrow for the general public, but a post on Turbine's Twitter page has announced that the beta release for my.ddo.com has opened today. A journal entry by Marketroid explains that the "new site offers players a place to share the experience of playing DDO. Blogs, galleries, character info, and guild functions all combine to bring the world of DDO to life on the web!"

The journal entry lists all sorts of features that are available on my.ddo.com. You can search for and view the character sheet for any character in the game, make a blog, manage a guild page and use widgets to customize your experience. And just like DDO Unlimited, my.ddo.com is free to use.

Since my.ddo.com is in beta, the team is looking for feedback from users. You can report bugs or submit suggestions in the official forums. More information on my.ddo.com can be found below.

As part of the launch of DDO Unlimited we’re pleased to announce that we’re opening the beta release of my.ddo.com today! This new site offers players a place to share the experience of playing DDO. Blogs, galleries, character info, and guild functions all combine to bring the world of DDO to life on the web!

Key features of the site:

Character Sheets / Character DB - Search for and view the character sheet for any character in the game. Ever wonder what sword or armor a particular character is using? Ever see someone who plays your class particularly well and wonder if their stats are similar to your? Now you can check. Over time we’ll add more character stats and information.

Your Blog / Character Blogs - Players now get a free blog on my.ddo.com as part of their membership. Use the blog to share your experiences in the lands of Xen’drik or use it as a regular personal blog. Of course blog entries, like forum posts are subject to content rules, so remember that this is a teen-rated community. In addition to posting as yourself, you may also choose to blog as any of your characters. If you do, those blog entries automatically show up on the character’s page.

Guild Page - Guilds automatically get a full blog along with a list of all characters in the guild. Permissions are based on your level in the guild, but leaders may also delegate management of the blog to any member. Use the guild page to chronicle your exploits, communicate with your members, or schedule your next event.

Widgets - Upload images to your own galleries, hold a conversation on your comment wall, or use the built-in calendar to set up your next dungeon run. These are the first of many features we’re bringing to you in the form of site widgets. Put them on your page in any combination you choose!

The power of Wordpress - If you’ve ever used Wordpress you already know how to use my.ddo.com! We’ve taken the power of the best blogging system in the business and combined it with a custom framework that ties it into the world of DDO. This means that the standard features you expect are there: Create your own blog posts, standalone pages, import your old blog entries from another system,  even integrate trackbacks and more!

Best of All - It’s Free! - Just like DDO Unlimited, my.ddo.com is a free service for our players. Use the blog as much or as little as you want. Join other players in commenting on blogs, or run your guild on our dime. Ultimately what you do with my.ddo.com is up to you - compliments of Turbine. (TOS, EULA, and community moderation rules apply)

Beta Makes it Better - As a beta release we know there are some rough edges and areas where we’ll need to improve. Make sure to provide your feedback in the my.ddo.com forums at forums.ddo.com. We’re committed to providing the best free to play experience in the business and my.ddo.com is part of that effort. Let us know what you think of the new site and what you’d like to see in future updates.

Bonus Update - Improved Character Signatures are also online as part of this update. Access the new signs for your characters via forums.ddo.com.

About Your Privacy: Like any public web site, it’s possible to share too much. Please avoid using your real name or contact info in your blog. Identity theft and account theft are real concerns. We take them seriously - you should too. All characters are public, but by default we don’t even show the links between players and characters. To link your characters to your player page visit the “My Profile” section of the site and click the options in “My Characters”. Otherwise, your characters remain unassociated with any particular player, but visible to the world just like they are in-game.

Thanks for playing and Welcome to my.ddo.com!
