Ok everybody let's use the force. We will lift a real SSL server in a box thru the air and into SOE's rustic run down subscription network.

All kidding aside, I work in the IT industry on the Application side. Clashing with the hardware and DB admin (security, database, etc) groups is almost a weekly occurence nowadays. We know what the application needs to work correctly, however they do whatever the hell they decide to do without listening to our recommendations. It's stupid, stupid...

I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case as well. But what do I know, I'm just some idiot paying customer....
WHATS WITH THE ERRORS!

Sex Ed analogy

We are currently experiencing some slowdown in the registration process because we ****** up yet again in our attempt to make the most money without spending any on quality hardware. We are slowly working on resolving the easily predictable issue and apologize for the inconvenience.

The SOE Game Operations Team
"Sometimes, they do work."

PS. If you read your EULA carefully, you will see that we are not liable for any problem such as this one once we've collected your credit card number.

We pay monthly for this? Blizzard games don't require monthly fees and run a hell of a lot smoother... what the **** is all I have to say.

You compare SWG to the hackable Blizzard games? None of those are MMO. Ever see added content in those games? Ever had several hundred ppl in the same game? If you can't pay for premium MMOs then why even post here?

Wait until WoW, then you will have a comparison. Until then it's just an apples vs oranges comparisons.

Yea you can't run SSL on your local box IF you have over 100+ connections at once.

If you do then you need like an Network Associates SSL Router box. Designed specifically to convert it for ya and take load of Host.
Common Sence
# Jun 26 2003 at 3:02 PM Rating: Decent
With all the delays and 4 years of everquest, you would think that they would have prepared for the large amounts of people trying to register. I mean, c'mon SOE, you mean to tell me that after all the bragging and hype on this game, that you guys are suprised that 1000s of people went out, got the game, and now are ALL trying to get on at the same time. I have a 3yr old with more common sence than that.
Thus, we have YET ANOTHER MMORPG launch go to complete CRAP!!!!

Plus, I've tried 25+ times to login. Hopefully it won't add up all the extra months for every attempt else I'll be stuck taking a second morgage on my house just to pay for this game....

Something tells me that once we get in, the same will happen to the game servers. I hate being pessimistic.

It could be worse, imagine downloading a 1.3gig file on the 1st day and having 50K people downloading it at the same time :)

SWG Login issues
# Jun 26 2003 at 2:39 PM Rating: Default
You know they have to have your credit card before you play the game..... I guess they couldnt give us the free 1 month subscription and when it ends ask for credit card. I could see where that would save a ton of people a lot of hassels the day a game is released. But as you know Sony is Money Hungry. Just look they have 250,000 people paying for Everquest, probably 50,000 people paying for EQOA, EQ2 comming soon and now SWG, guess they want 500,000 people paying them 15.00 a month to play a game. Thats a nice 7.5 million income per month.

I remember when web access for games was free :( Good old days of Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft.
News flash!
# Jun 26 2003 at 2:35 PM Rating: Good
There is no such thing as a smooth MMORPG release. Waiting one more day while they fix the servers won't kill you.
Fun fun!
# Jun 26 2003 at 2:30 PM Rating: Default
It seems to me that they should have seen this coming. I'm a big fan so if I have to wait 2 days to sign on so be it.

Why can't they have big time bandwidth setup for the first few weeks for the rush then bring back down?

First impressions are everything and there will be a lot of peeps taking their game back.
Check the Dev Tracker on SWG

Q-3P0 posted that the registration server has a hardware problem. You can still register, but the performance isn't that good.

They expect the hardware to be fixed soon and you all should see a sudden jump up in performance.

Of course, it's 3 PM EDT. In about three hours all of us East Coast people will get home from work and begin frantically trying to register our accounts. :)
