In Development...

From the SW:G home page: Our first post launch priority is to deal with any major issues that come up in terms of stability or gameplay. In the coming months, we intend to add these features as free updates: Player Cities: Players who build houses near each other may have the ability to incorporate into a city. Benefits include access to municipal buildings such as shuttle ports and cloning facilities. Advanced cities will show up on everyone's planetary map. Creature Mounts: Creature Handlers will have the ability to tame certain creatures as mounts that players can ride around on. They will include such creatures as the Dewback, Ronto and Bantha. Player Vehicles: Players will be able to purchase single seat vehicles to traverse terrain quicker. This will include the Landspeeder and Swoop bike.

yes scouting skills do help with travel time..as far as it goes a few good shots to the head and a womp rat is dead easily..just rinse and repeat..only thing u need to watch for is the BAF factor but if you can pull them solo they are easy as pie..only womp rat I still fear is the greater mutant, eventually he will fall to the power of my rifle.
If any of you get on tatootine on ahazi, Ill be the one thats shooting anything that moves in the desert near mos entha..names Grenndo and always remember you are only as good as both your weaponn and your common sense can make you
multi = good!

a multiperson vehicle would be insanly good for PA type stuff, imagine if your 30 strong PA/guild moved to a hunting spot with just 3 vehicles, 10 players per vehicle heh

and lets not forget assaults on faction bases, ok this isnt a FPS but why not add the tactics of moving lots of people quickly into good areas for attacking opposite faction bases.

So, if I understand what you are getting at, then you are thinking of like a "tribes 2" type vehicle system? Like the "havoc" transport? (For those of you who don't know, the havoc has one driver, one bomber who shoots mortars and guns, one rear gunner who uses their own weapons, and 4 passengers who use their own weapons. If you get all 6 of the players who can shoot to use mortars, then the enemy has no chance....except for turrets and missles that is =) ) That would greatly add to the strategy of PA battles, as well as present an added danger that would have to be considered and planned for. Besides, who wouldn't like to chase after the little people on the ground at high speed, gunning them down as you pass. =)

Multiple People in 1 Vehicle?

"single seat vehicles to traverse terrain quicker"

Too bad they won't have multi-seat vehicles :(
I hope they plan to make multi-seat ships when the SE comes out.

Anyone here think they're gonna start with single seaters and move to multi-seaters? Or just stick with solo driving?

Considering the problems involved with keeping two players in sync in the same vehicle, I imagine they'll probably stick to single-passenger for a long while. Not to say that they couldn't solve the problems but that they have so many other things on their plate that it's likely to be a low priority.

Massive Zones not so massive
# Jun 26 2003 at 4:33 AM Rating: Decent
As a Beta Tester, traversing massives zones is no big deal. You can make the run from Mos Eisley to Bestine in about 15 minutes or so game time. Plus you can get a lot of experience along with way fighting Jabba's thugs, evil hermits and various other creatures, such as the prodigous Womprats Luke use to bullseye. =) But watch out for the mutant variety or giants as they are pretty tricky by yourself.

And the best part! No zoning like EQ! Ugh! Hate that! You only zone in this game if take a shuttle or a transport! Sort of like DAOC a little, but you don't zone into cities. You just walk right in.

If you have Novice Scout and Exploration I travel time is cut down considerably as going up and down hills is much faster.

Enjoy and look me up. Usually and hopefully I will be named either Gemini Starstrider or Devas Tation.

Good luck and enjoy a game that was a lot of fun to Beta Test, bugs and all!

Peace!
Sounds great

If they honestly add personal vehicles within even 2mos of release, I personally will be beyond impress.

It's been 2 years, and there *still* aren't personal horses in DAoC.

Granted Mythic had/has much more to tweak, but still....

As if there weren't enough CHs already...
Idea

Actually this was my idea while in beta. j/k this was on the table before any beta started
RE: Idea

hehe. Yeah, that's why I say I was lobbying for it rather than claiming it as "my idea". I saw several similar suggestions over the course of time, so there were lots of other beta testers with the same general idea.

Glad to see that Holo and the gang are going to give it a try.
Creature gets better

Makes being a creature handler much better . And explains to alot of us non beta how we're going to get across these gigantic zones we hear about.
How many hours til release now ....
Ongoing Storyline
# Jun 25 2003 at 10:15 PM Rating: Decent
Looks like they're implementing an idea that I was lobbying for while in beta:

------------
Kicking Things Off in July, 2003
In mid-July 2003, we will begin the prologue to our first monthly story arc, "The Cries of Alderaan." Our goal is to provide featured quests that virtually any player can take part in. Your success or failure may sway the direction of the overall storyline.
------------

Looks like we'll be able to have some ongoing additions to content that, depending on the statistics of the players who use it, will influence future content.

I'm looking forward to this. Q once described SWG as a platform rather than a just a game. This will be one of the first tests of just what they can accomplish with that platform.

Release is a state of mind.

Most good games get better with age. This one will likely do the same.

"single seat vehicles to traverse terrain quicker" - From the SW:G home page

This post appears to be highly apologetic from the get go. Too bad, because the game is actually an excellent role-play, and it is likely, given that Bill fails in his bid to rule the Hollyverse, that this project will be a premiere virtual world, while recent games have tended toward theme parks. Pun intended.
