A Crystalline Prophecy Advance Order Date

Last November, Square Enix shocked the world of Vana'diel with the announcement of not one, not two, but three new mini expansions that would be coming to adventurers in 2009. In a whirling mixture of both excitement and skepticism, the community began to talk in a frenzy about what they thought it meant for the game and its future.

At Fan Festival 2008 in Hollywood, adventurers were again teased with previews, setting in motion further discussion about things such as the price point, the volume of content, which mini-expansion looked the most appealing, and when the release date would be.

Today Square Enix has given us some of that information, announcing that the first of the three, "A Crystalline Prophecy - Ode of Life Bestowing" will be available for advance purchase exclusively through PlayOnline.com starting March 23, 2009. The content will be available for play upon the release of the April version update. With a price point of $9.99, it goes without saying that March 23 will be one difficult day to do some Vana'diel shopping.

Discuss this on the Allakhazam forums.

Official announcement from PlayOnline.com:

The first installment of three new add-on scenarios, entitled "A Crystalline Prophecy – Ode of Life Bestowing" will be available for advance purchase through PlayOnline starting from March 23, 2009.
(*Players purchasing the scenario will receive access to the in-game content upon the release of the next FINAL FANTASY XI version update, scheduled for early April. )

There about 3-4 different dates being given out on the advanced purchase date for this. 2 on the POL say the 23rd and another says the 22. Also someone here posted a 22nd purchase date for here.

This looks pretty awesome.
Anybody else note that the armor they show also had a little blurb in the bottom right corner saying that when receiving the armor you get to choose from a list of added effects that would be applied to the armor? That's pretty cool!

Based on that bit of information, I would guess these new armor pieces are the rewards for completing the storyline. The second armor piece looks really nice, hope that it can be used by mages.
nice

Okay, it's an electronic download, so they aren't sending out media. Why are they pre-selling it? You won't be able to download it ahead of time, there's no access to anything or manual, so where is the benefit?

you will be abl eto download and install it, it just wont be "unlocked" until th eupdate, kinda like with wotg (or was it toau)? when that first came out we could buy it and install it but the content wasnt unlocked and useable until the following day

Hmm, that's not what I've heard. Supposedly, they're pre-selling the reg code for the expack, and rolling it into the full update next month.

If that is the case, I still don't see any benefit to it.

If they are allowing a download (and we'll see come Monday), then it might be worthwhile.

They spelled "Equipment" wrong on the official site... and the dates of release are conflicting, one page says March 22nd, another says March 23rd; seems kind of rushed XD
