Give a Moogle a Bento

Moogle had a unique request for me the other day. He said, "Master, master! Make me a bento, kupo~~"

I knew what he meant. He wanted me to bring him a yummy box of food to eat. Surely he was going to reward me with increased Mog House space if I brought him one, right?

Alas, I questioned every chef in Windurst including the great Ranpi-Monpi. No one knew how to make a bento lunch. Saddened by this travesty, I logged off and proceeded to make a Moogle bento. If I couldn't do it in Vana'diel, I'd just have to do it in the real world!

I still wish I could have done this for him in game. Bento boxing would make a great Culinarian key item skill, wouldn't it? (hint hint Square Enix!)

Presumably you'd take existing finished food items and craft them together to form a bento, with the benefits of eating said item being more potent than the ingredients. The question is though, would people use it? A new form of food has the potential to affect the game, similar to how the major changes to food years ago significantly affected the Culinarian Guild's way of life.

Discuss this on the Allakhazam forums.

It's called takuan, which is pickled radish. It's usually colored yellow.

job specific bento boxes
# Feb 14 2009 at 11:38 AM Rating: Decent
I think it would be kind of cool if there were job specific bento boxes one for each of the jobs in the world of Vanadiel. The food item should last longer than typical food items about 2x longer at least, and boost vital stats for the said job eg.(WAR:HP,STR,DEF BLM:MP,and MP recovery, crit boost to Elemental Magic). There should be a wood crafting items to place the food in as well boxes made of different woods for the different jobs. The boxes should have three different foods in each to make a complete meal, random thought CHOPSTICKS held in offhand a different set for each job again and make them RareEX drops boost other stats vital to job that are not boosted by the food, at percent of a total stat that is vital to that job. This would make bento boxes a really useful tool and fun at the same time for lots of people, maybe even put some those useless foods to better use by making them ingredients in the bento boxes. Well lets hope someone at SE likes our ideas about it LOL.
mmm....

It's so cute I couldn't bring myself to eat it.... But yeah SE could make Bento Box a 3 hour food, Non-stackable, and maybe make some of the items less anoying to get.
Cute!

That's a very cute lunchbox you've made there Pikko.

I'm not playing right now, but I think it's an interesting idea. The problem is, most of the foods that get added don't get used, or SE makes them too annoying to get ingredients for. Take Exo's cheese sandwich for instance. I wanted to make some for friends the day I quit and one of my friends had to spend half of the day killing saplings or something in Grauberg just to get 2-3 pieces of lettuce to drop. Another annoying one is Fish and Chips. the effects aren't good enough to make people buy them, but if you wanted to make them because they'd be a cool bazaar item or gift, it was impossible before WotG because you could only get the ingredients when a nation actually controlled Molvolpolis.

Anyway, new and different foods are always a fun addition. :D

I agree on the cute part.

I would like to see FFXI make the world go around when it comes to food, but I also want them to make many more of those food useful and the ingredients obtainable in a decent manner.

A lot of the fish that is on the AH that I have seen do not have many uses except for the popular ones for quest and crafting of other jobs. I don't have much of an estimate but I would believe 25% of the fish being caught are useful and that the rest of them are just fish to be caught. Legendary fish? Sure! Fish for Sushi? Sure! (though Gugru Tuna is a pain because you can't stack them.) But that seems to be were all the concentration comes into, and other varieties like mithkabobs (both fish and meat kabobs.) Every other food is more of a circumstantial food. Ok, ok, food used for a ranger is different from a melee but even sushi has it's uses for a ranger. Not to mention Beastmaster, thief, dancer, samurai, dark knight, paladin (whats up with DD pld's these days?), practically any job that isn't a mage class (with the exception of blu possibly) can use one form of sushi or another.

As for the other fishes, they are damned. Not many uses or their uses are considered obsolete compared to alternatives. Some fish were frequently used at one time until the demand for them was tugged along by something like Sushi. Gold Carps, I just npc to make a decent profit while fishing up moats. Tri colored carp is only useful for skilling up. I can go on about this but you would think with all the abundance of fish you can make a food item for a majority of the fish caught. I mean for crying out loud Fugu -.-........ Shark Fin Soup (yes they have it in the game), mineure( or something of that sort I used for early rng levels, was the best food for a rng but there wasn't many being sold). Yea I said it, blame what's his name (Andrew Zimmerman?) for supplying me with this info.

Taking a break from FFXI because of my college schedule but yeah I would like to see new additions just like anybody else do, I just like to add that they have to have usefulness so that they aren't thrown in the corner only to be forgotten.
