Here some updates for today. And it seems Sony is wanting to clear up some misconceptions about the Class Paths. You can view the information here or read below. Starting at the level 20 class path quest and continuing in the level 30, 40 and 49 quests, upon completion, your character is presented with the ability to choose between 2 different rewards. As the Quest NPC tells you, if you choose the same "line" at each stage, this will allow you to specialize in that ability. In the level 20, 30 and 40 quest this decision will result in both a weapon and a spell or ability. The level 49 quest, as the culmination, is somewhat different. At 49, you can choose between two different weapons regardless of your prior spell or ability selections or what you choose for a spell or ability at 49. The only thing your different choices at level 20, 30 and 40 will affect is what spells or abilities you will be able to choose at the completion of your 49 quest. If you have chosen the same "line" of spell or ability at 20, 30 and 40 you will be able to choose the specialized 49 version of that line that is slightly more powerful than if you had not specialized. How you choose along the way does not affect your ability to do quests. The design intent is to allow someone who "specializes" (picks the same spell or ability at 20, 30 and 40) access to a slightly more powerful version of that "line" of spells at the completion of the 49 quest. For those that don't choose the same at each step, their character will have more flexibility, given that they have access to two different special abilities. For example: A Wizard chooses the mana regen buff at 40 and the Direct Damage (DD) spell with a hate reducer at 49. They will have access to both those spells, where others who specialized in the DD would have a bit more powerful version (but not the benefit of the lower level mana regen) or a good bit better mana regen (but no access to a DD with built in hate reduction). So, the real choice is flexibility versus specialization. Our intent is to have either selection be a viable option without one or the other being overpowered.
