Q's Query #18: Advancement

Q-3PO has presented the player populous with another chance to become the Developers for SWG, and asked them how they would like the advancement to be handled. How long should advancement through the different professions take, as well as what the community see as the best way to cater to the casual players as well as the powergamers. Many great suggestions were made, and can be viewed HERE. LONG LIVE THE SHRUB!! -Kenti

I'll go ahead and field this, as I'm the main culprit here ;)

Basically, when I was brought on board to the Alla team, I was told to post anything pertinent to the MMOG community here. If you notice, the non-EQ news that you see is categorized under "General".

Yes, this is an Everquest site, but this is also a gaming site. We give all news available about the Everquest game and community that we can find, and also give information about the newer games comming out, as to give people a variety of things to choose from in their gaming experience.

In all honesty, the Everquest world has settled down quite a bit since launch, and the biggest news has been well covered and documented by the team. Legacy of Ykeshka is not going unnoticed by the community here at Allakhazam's :)

I understand your point of view, so please try to understand ours. A bigger reason we post other news on this site is that it is much easier for people to come to a single site and read news about all that interests them in one shot. People who play EQ(feel free to insert DAoC, AO) are generally interested in the MMOG's and thus will read about them anyways on other sites. We try and bring together the MASSIVE amount of information on other sites and give them sort of a "starting block" to jump to places of interest.

If a person knows they can come to Allakhazam's and read about all they like, then I would think that would have them comming back the next day to get the scoop on what's happening in the MMOG world.

You notice you do not see news about DAoC, or AO, as they have their own sites to have the news about them exclusively posted. There is simply not enough manpower or time to have sites for every single MMOG comming out, so we post the news that is pertinent to any who are interested as we come accross it.

If you're interested in why sites would 'call their site EQ and post something other than EQ' we're not the only one out there. I'm not going to go into a debate on "they do it too, so that makes it right," but I just want to make it known that we're not the only site that follows this practice.

Anyhow, I hope I answered your questions and regret that you had to post under Anonymous and thus I can't apologize to you personally. It does sadden me to lose any readers, and I hope that my explanation will keep you around for a bit longer :)

I'm not the original poster, but I wanted to say that I have seen AO stuff here on the EQ section. I don't mind (I also play AO). I just wish more stuff was published on the AO site and that it was as comprehensive as the EQ one is.

Morriscox, you're not the only person that feels this way, and I promise that we're pulling as much info from the web as we can concerning AO. In all honesty, the main AO website doesn't have a high rate of news posts, and the ones that would be interesting to the rest of the community (The downloading of the Expansion during the 7 day trial) was posted under "General" because it would hopefully help the AO community gain even more players.

Believe it or not, this was a breaking point for some people, as I've heard several people gain the perspective that they've got nothing to lose, and are trying it out! This is very exciting, and I like to think that we had a small impact on helping already a great player base grow even a little.

Yes, the AO database isn't as comprehensive as the EQ or DAoC one... And there's really nothing I can say to fix it that. However, there are venues that you could pursue to see about getting that fixed.
