New class confirmed on test

Tonight on test server, the UI files were updated. Included in the EQUI_CharacterCreate.xml file is a new class option at the character creation screen:
<Button item="CC0_Class2_Button"> <ScreenID>CC0_Class2_Button</ScreenID> <RelativePosition>true</RelativePosition> <Location> <X>102</X> <Y>92</Y> </Location> <Size> <CX>96</CX> <CY>24</CY> </Size> <Style_VScroll>false</Style_VScroll> <Style_HScroll>false</Style_HScroll> <Style_Transparent>false</Style_Transparent> <Style_Checkbox>true</Style_Checkbox> <RadioGroup>CC0_Class_Radios</RadioGroup> <Text>Berserker</Text> <TextColor> <R>255</R> <G>255</G> <B>255</B> </TextColor> <ButtonDrawTemplate> <Normal>A_BtnNormal</Normal> <Pressed>A_BtnPressed</Pressed> <Flyby>A_BtnFlyby</Flyby> <Disabled>A_BtnDisabled</Disabled> <PressedFlyby>A_BtnPressedFlyby</PressedFlyby> </ButtonDrawTemplate> </Button> New class name is apparantly Berserker. Further examination of the eqstr file reveals the following:
5791 Berserker 5792 Berserker GM 5793 Brawler 5794 Vehement 5795 Rager 5796 Fury
Titles perhaps? Edit, the character create on Test does strange things when you select Ogre, Troll, Vah Shir, Barbarian and Human - leading us to believe that those are the valid races for the new class

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 24 2003 at 1:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hmm, I don't really see the point of this class ... rumor has it that it's a warrior/monk hybrid. First off I don't see the point in making two melee classes a "hybrid". The warrior and necro combo (SK) and the warrior and cleric combo (Pally) are the second best tanks in the game. Necros, compared to other classes have a LOW hp, as do clerics. Monks have a reasonable amount of HP, and a high AC, which results in some monks tanking at times. Warriors have a high base HP and AC which makes them sole damage takers. Technically this berserker class should be gettin a higher base HP & AC then sks/pallys and have a higher base AC then warriors. Monks deal a hefty amount of damage and warriors aren't to far off either. So this class should also be dealin a fair amount of damage.

I would have issue about a troll or ogre being one... less so for ogres...

Lastly, if Barbarians, Trolls, or Orge's are able to be this class I quit this game. No joke.

But...ummm... Are you on crack?! WTH is more logical than a Barbarian Berserker? Cool. Quit. Please.

IMHO, I think that Vah Shir and Barbarians are the ONLY ones who should be able to be Berserkers...If it's going to be a class at all.

Here's to hoping, really, it's a test class to try out the new combat system with (which wouldn't be out of line to do).

Beserker

This will be an interesting class indeed. This class shouldnt offset the warrior or the monk class at all.

Bringing a new class into the world of Norrath is always a good thing. Start to stomp on the other classes and you have already lost the exciting insight as to what this class will offer.

Warriors are born and raised to protect their peoples. They have great hp and ac, strong taunt, nice weaps. As long as their group or raid knows the warriors job then everything should work out great.

A beserker will obviously not tank as well because they are not full warriors, but rather warriors on the eager and raging side. They care more about killing the enemy and watching it die than the safety as their group or his own safety. This will do more damage but they may tend to loose the aggro for not concentrating on keeping it focused on him. He will also get riposted more and take more damage because he is not able to mitigate if he's more on an offensive.

Monks will logically outdamage a beserker for they have ability to mitigate their outgoing damage better. Monks also have fd and mend which beserker will most likely lack.

It seems that Beserkers will have the ability to bash often, and perhaps rage and ...beserk. You can bet when a beserker goes beserk they will cripple that enemy like nothing you have ever seen. It will indeed be a fun class, but it will in no way take place of any other classes, especially the warrior.

Another interesting about beserkers is that unlike the beastlord from luclin, you can find a lot of enemies that are beserkers all over Norrath. Fighting some of them compared to their warrior counterparts may help understand the differences. There is always a huge hp difference, and even an ac one, but the beserkers will always bash, smash, and overall knock you back.

Well sure wrote enough...if i saw this post i'd probably skip it for it being so long :P

Gluck to future beserkers out there!

#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 24 2003 at 3:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They said that they will tank plus they will have dps like a monk. In other words they take the best of both classes. In my opion it is stupid you just making warriors and monks mad and useless in a group with this class.

what alot of you seem to be missing is that the new melee abilities will be for pure melee classes only, not for pallys, sk's, rangers, and beastlords.

it looks like to me that soe is making some important changes in the pure melee classes to have them generate more agro if they want to, or do more damage. from what i read, these improvements will only benefit melee, not hybrids

If you'd actually read the information, you are incorrect. It will *not* benefit hybrids. Hybrids are just having their discs moved to the endurance system. That's all...and I've seen many hybrids complain about this... (omg...someone complained?! not here...no way... *rolls eyes*) No new "Combat Opening" skills to use during these fleeting chances to increase aggro, stun the mob, make it "drop defenses" (ala strikethrough) for the group, etc., etc... Only the pure melees will get these benefits. Hybrids will, again, NOT benefit.

Please, please read the announcements before posting. kthanks. :)

#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 23 2003 at 10:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Whould'nt it have been a lot better to make another bybrid? A berseker class seems a little pointless. They might as well make a wiz,mage,ench/ warrior. A berseker just has a bunch of moves.I read on a page that it was a monk/warrior. So is it suppose to deal lots of quick damage but be able to tank? That'll either make it bad at both or be better than a warrior again. I think they should just stop making new stuffs and just fix old stuff. The warrior rly needs attention(The stuff they want to add seems stupid) for taunt and a few special skills. The casters need atention for thier spells and balance but still making everyone happy. The zones chould use some fixes. If Verant has the time and money to make new stuff just make the game it's self better. EQ's falling because it's getting worse. Polish it then start adding stuff to make it better.

ok you know there will be no end to this arguement..... really all we need to know is tbat SKs Pallys and warriors are our tanks and this beserker can tank as well i dont think anyone should be complaining its another hand in a raid or adventure.... there are different views for everything such as DPS.... some say a ranger others say a rogue the other side is the wizard.... who is the best tank would be very difficult to prove as would best dps so why not jus quit the argument

Another point to look at...
# Nov 23 2003 at 6:40 PM Rating: Default
True, agro is not as easy for warrior's to hold as it used to be. But, as a Pally back in day when I was in my 40s, I was always passed up by other melee classes for groups. Only after midnight was it convienent for others to add a Pally. Now, I find being a Pally alot more useful then it was... especially in LDoN groups. I was even used as the main tank in PoStorms a few weeks ago. Imagine, shouting for group over 2 hours in the popular zones before anyone felt they needed you, and when they did, it was because there wasn't anyone else.

# Nov 23 2003 at 4:11 PM Rating: Default
Ya, I agree. The only real thing warrior need is their taunt upgraded. Warriors need to out aggro other classes. Having a SK who can get high on the aggro list is i guess a good thing, but he shouldnt be chosen over a warrior by the enemy.
RE: Taunt
# Nov 24 2003 at 10:03 AM Rating: Excellent
The point in the game and in groups is to watch your agroprofile if you are not a tankclass. I still see lvl 40 rangers who think they can tank mobs and want to dimiss the sk/pally/war. Or wizzies chainnuking and getting agro, the skill of the entiregroup is about managing agro and chaneling it to tankclasses, true an sk may be better in holding agro than a war, but that's only compensation for lacking a war, you will need more dps from others cause of his leather armor wich makes sure that his hp's are consumed faster.
Why does the rogue has hide and the monk fd? To let the agro flow back to the warrior. Don't blame the tank for loosing agro, blame the one that gets the agro. The only ones excused from getting agro are ones who do the crowdcontrol, the cleric and the CC-er are the only ones my warrior shields by hotbutton, the rest has to learn how to manage their agro. So if the wizzy, druid, shammy gets it and taunt doesn't work instantly, too bad for him/her. But if the cleric's heal get's him the agro, i want to make sure i can shield the cleric.

Now this may sound ****** towards casterclasses but remember getting agro makes the mob move away from tank and melee classes. Wich prevents us from building up more hate and can cause spreading of hate towards other casters. In the end, that frenzied nuke costed you mana costed the meelees dps and also costs the healer extra mana and in the end will cost us more downtime alltogether and that all at the risk of dieing yourself.

So before claiming that warriors have lousy taunt, wonder if you don't have a too big taunt. It's all part of balancing the game and it could be you who tips over the balance in the wrong direction.

Honestly, Who cares. Man for being the manly men of EQ i sure do here an awful lot of cying about how they cant hold argo against a Pally/SK. Ok so a Warrior cant hold agro, which must mean they suck now right.... wrong. Warriors deal more Damage then Pallys/SK have more HP/AC and midigate much more damage them Hybrids. I personally would much rather have a Warrior in a Raid setting tanking mobs, and have Pally/SK in groups.

Sometimes the best thing is to know your place in the over scheme of things.

# Nov 23 2003 at 2:15 PM Rating: Default
I was just thinking about the whole concept of the "Creating an opening" aspect. What happens when you hit a lag spike or such, I really dont know but if just seems that to me it would be hard to manage consistancy when you connection is going freeky on you for one reason or another. Imho i think that the "mana bar for Melee" seems like it would be a balanced and welcome addition to EQ, but take this into mind. My guild just killed Yellly Snacks (SS dragon king yelniak) and didnt incur one death. Well to me that seems if Devlopers added Extra dmg or skills to any class that these once huge hard mobs would be even easier and thus the challenge of everquest would wither a bit. In my experiance the more i play the easier EQ becomes, so whats the use with additional abilities.

I play a lvl 65 cleric on Cazic Thule, and though I do agree that a knight can easily out aggro a warrior, I do not believe they can out tank one. That is my opinion based on 2 of my friends: both very good at their class, and both very well equipped. One of them, warrior, is in the guild Relentless, and the other, shadow knight, is in Talons. I have duo'ed with both of them on numerous occasions, and I must say the warrior may not drop the mob as fast as the SK, using dot's and pet, but I heal him so less often that I don't bother with C3 most the time. However, fighting the same mobs, I have to constantly watch the Sk's life bar. There is only a 1200 hp difference in the 2, when buffed.
Now the SK can hold aggro so well I can nuke and stun freely, and with the warrior I have to control my own aggro. But this problem is easily fixed with a little communication.
For Example:
I say /g complete heal inc, taunt on my command.
And he says /g waiting on taunt.
Then just as the heal lands I would tell him to taunt and he does. You can substitute nuke for heal if you like, but I think you get the picture.
Until Sony helps these guys with an innate taunt mod of some kind, we as the people who rely on them need to help them as much as possible. I think Sk's and pally's should spike aggro and then turn off attack and let the warrior take over.
Just my opinion

# Nov 23 2003 at 10:36 AM Rating: Decent
Untill other classes get a 3min /Disc then NOBODY will ever out tank a Warrior on high lvl hard hitting raid type Mobs.
The difference in HPs is virtually meaningless 1000 even 3000Hp dif dont mean squat when your getting hammered for 5K+ a round.

3min /Disc >>>> All

BUT on that note a Warrior who's /Disc is down is no better than anyone actually at that point an Sk or Pally WOULD be better.
If you dont have a 3min /Disc then the key is to NOT get hit through high as possible avoidance in every way be it Dodge/reposte/Block/CA3&LR5 AAs/AGI/modifiers to all the above/etc etc..

as for this "Berzerker" class i dont think it exist or will, its most likely just a Sony only test to check out Warriors using the new combat system.

Warriors don't need special moves or anything really fancy to make them the best overall tanks all they need, imo is a innate aggro modifier. As for taunt if I remeber correctly (I might be wrong) all it does is give you the same aggro as the person with the highest at the time +1. So if your grouping with someone who is going insane and not controlling themselfs then yeah your gonna have a hard time with aggro, but the fact is these updates arn't going to help in anyway with warrior tuant that I can see (again I could be wrong). and besides that we don't need to go nerfing or depowering other classes. Granted hybrids and by hyrbids we mean Knights are better at getting aggro. The thing is if your in a group and your purposly stealing aggro from a warrior(if s/he is the main tank) when theres no trouble such as adds or some such thing then its not the warriors fualt due to lack of getting aggro its the person using the knight who is at fualt of course there are situations where these are nulled but the basic premise is that warriors don't need a huge overhall or that knights need to be nerfed some small tweaks here and there will better suite the needs of warriors then rehualing the combat system or making the fights more hectic.

A Warrior's perspective
# Nov 22 2003 at 2:15 PM Rating: Excellent
I read a lot of posts from people saying warriors are whiners. I ask this of you - STOP, look around and THINK. Is there possibly a reason Warriors are whining? You'll find the answer in ANY 60+ warrior. Ask any 60+ warrior on any server, what is the ONE thing you would like to see happen to warriors, if anything? Their response will be improved taunt. This is all a warrior needs. And these supposed improvements only tell me that Sony has no idea what a warrior does in the game any more.

Read Pernicus's message here. He goes through the motions of what a warrior in a raid situation must do in order to *attempt* to maintain aggro. The list is long, as is many other classes' lists. But I seriously think that adding more decision-making into an already busy class will dilute the fun-factor. Isn't that why we all play? To have fun? You cannot hang your windblade up above the mantle each night after a hard raid...its all pixels, people.
I believe the best answer is to first of all, improve warrior taunt to bring it in line with the monsters we are fighting at that level. Warriors are not damage dealers, we are damage takers. I think all warriors would like more dps, but I also believe all warriors have succumbed to the fact that we are just meatshields. We just want to maintain aggro....
These other changes sound interesting - I am willing to try them out, sure. But if Sony moves too fast (which they have a habit of doing - LoY, anyone?) they may end up ruining yet another class altogether.

Sheesh, what a rant. Sorry to those I bored, and having said all that - I cannot wait to give these changes a try!

If they design these new "special attacks" properly, they will hopefully generate all sorts of extra aggro for warriors (much more than the hybrids can generate with spells.

Now, the real question with all of these proposed changes will be how many wipes will there while people are trying to master the new system? If you're relying on move x to generate the most aggro, how random will the opportunities be to use move x?

The raiding game is all about precision, and it sounds like this new system will be adding a lot of variance to the game.

That's not to say it won't be fun, but there will be a lot of griping in the first month of these changes going live, while people figure out how to balance aggro between the MT and his backups. Which moves generate how much aggro, etc.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 22 2003 at 12:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Wish there was better places to go from about level 20 to 35ish. Right now 20 to 25 is good in pc, but it can be difficult to get a group there since it is a popular place (also get alot of plvlers who rudely claim a entire camp to themselves). I have a 25 enchanter alt and pc seems too low, but yet Highpass is too high (and frankly highpass is overrated and overcamped in my opinion). About the only 2 places I know to hunt that I can get a group is Maru Seru (very boreing!!!!) or LDON (Major pain to get a group at 25ish). Used to there was LOIO and FM, but those zones are pretty much Bring your own group anymore (and exp is pitiful there really)
RE: 2
# Nov 22 2003 at 2:08 PM Rating: Decent
What you're asking for is another hyper-xp zone, with a huge Zone Experience Modifier. These already exist in a lot of places, its just that those places aren't necessarily the most popular spots anymore. These spots can easily carry you past PC and well into your late 20's.

Popular ZEM's:

160% - Crushbone, Befallen, Paludal Caverns
150% - Kurn's Tower, Warrens, Upper Guk, High Keep
130% - Najena, Solusek's Eye,Unrest

In the meantime, LDoN also offers some pretty decent xp bonuses, though I haven't seen stats on exactly how good they are.

The catch is, as you said, finding a group, and getting them to one of those spots. I've found that if you can make friends with a cleric, people will follow you just about anywhere. However, without a rezzer, you won't find people very willing to travel far from the "popular" zones.

I'm hoping that Verant will be smart enough to realize that if indeed Berzerker is a NEW class and not the title for the new and improved warriors, that they will lose a good chunk of there customers.

I think that this is going to be the title for the new and improved warrior that are supposedly going to have new abilities that allow them to create openings for all other melees. I mean how can they just develope a new battle system? that wouldn't solve anything because then SKs, Pallies and all the other threats to warriors as we new them would be able to do the same as them. They would have to create new skills and abilities unique to the warrior alone.

I think with this new upgrade to the warriors they will not only be introducing that whole opening thing, but also some uber taunt skills along with better stats and DPS. Plus which sounds cooler, Berserker or Warrior?
