Im excited on the sam trait!

IM excited on the sam trait! i just hope its above lvl 37. I feel cheapened that people can sub sam for meditate even though its weakened. That all sam has! I hope its a str booster trait at 60 like the thf update. Mnks and Thfs and Drks and Rngs and Wars all out damage my ws. Although we make a party by providing Magic Bursts for mages, Dragoons and Rangers out damage us by far. I also think its cool that whm will be alittle better. Rdm is way to powerful with refresh and convert. It wouldnt supprise me if whm gets a refresh trait or something like that.

Lets not forget that Refresh has a recast time that makes many cry. Sometimes I can't rest between fights because I spend that 2 minutes refreshing everyone, and THAT is why we have convert. Because half the time we can't rest between fights, convert makes up for that by letting us charge up in a pinch.

SAM can SC with every other job, as well as set up his own multiple chain, and he complains about not doing enough damage? Then he complains about RDM Refresh and Convert being too powerfull? Does he not know RDM have the lousiest MP regen of all the jobs, both innate and gear, to offset Refresh and Convert (@40+)?

Um... only way a samurai can chain with himself NOW after a patch they did almost a year ago (which limited the amount of TP you could gain from using a multi-hit WS) is to use his 2 hour or get VERY lucky when doing WS > meditate > and getting a double attack in time for the 2nd WS (assuming the samurai subs warrior). I'm hoping the new job trait will be something that allows a samurai to self chain again based on skill rather than hoping that a double attack will occur. Being that a samurai's main purpose is NOT to deal damage but rather to create skillchains, it is safe to assume that the new job trait will most likely have something to do with generating TP faster (hopefully not another TP store, but perhaps a constant TP regen when the samurai is under 100 TP).

sam's dont do alot of dmg if we are trying to setup multiple SC's. The SC's are crap dmg anyway. In that scenario we exist merely for the nukers to hose the mob's down.

As a DD, a SAM/THF is almost unparalleled. We can outdamage DRK's BLM's and RNG's

I knew I was gonna get called out, but I assure you its the truth. The only way a BLM can outdamage me in this party setup is if he spams. and he wont live long like that.
I have no proof. SO I cant post anything, I only have word of mouth of people i have pt'd with and I dont see them on this board :(

You obviuolsy have not experimented wiht this, and have only got your information from staregy guides and/or heard it through the grapevine (we all have)

I'm going to use myself as an example, but I am not bragging, If iI wanted to brag I would have said this in the 1st post but i feel like ive been made fun of, and thats unnacceptable.

In a party where I'm SAM/THF and closing just 1 SC, you can't outdamage me.

Ive had a BLM in Labyrinth of Onzozo who had Parser running and I was outdamaging him and the DRK who was using Sole sushi and using his strongest WS.

I am a 66 samurai and I commonly close with 700-800, sometimes 900 and occasionally the 1000+. My PB is 1098dmg

In a party that happened not that long ago, the RNG was doing 600-700 and I was doing the numbers I mentioned above....

Nothing against the other jobs, but if the stars are aligned correctly for me, ie the conditions above are met, I can outdamage you in an exp party, I dont care who you are as long as we're the same lvl.

If you would like to know how, than ask. But I bet anyone reading this can figure it out ^^

Im not talking out of my @$$, I'm defending it.
If anyone on gilgamesh wants an example /tell me in-game ;)

I'll definitely back you up Sarunodaimyo. If it is possible, that's one very dead BLM. All I'm saying is I pull hate often and the only time our BLMs pull it is on an ancient magic MB. If he's getting hate more often than that, we need a better tank.
RE: Im excited on the sam trait!
# Feb 23 2005 at 5:21 PM Rating: Default
Pulling hate is not a very accurate way of seeing who is doing the most dmg. Too many variables exist such as: -enmity gear, what the other players are doing to generate hate, and how far into the battle you are, just to name a few variables. Not to even mention (about blm) if your in a PT with a blm that gets a lot of resists, than the mage isnt going to do much damage anyway and needs more int. If you PT with a blm that gets few resists, it's very easy to rip hate from the tank (although no blm in their right mind would want to do that under normal circumstances). Freeze is week anyway. In the time it takes to cast freeze, a lvl50blm could cast aerogaII, watergaII, and possibly stonegaII, and if none of those spells get resisted (which most likely at least one will get resisted) you've done 1000+ dmg and this doesnt account for MBs. Anyway, back to the main point, you can pull hate casting enfeebles and aspir even after someone has voked, depending on the time and circumstance of battle. Usually in an xp battle, if I cast all my enfeebles back to back, I need to wait a second before I start nuking, or I can possibly pull hate with just 1 moderate nuke. So please don't use getting a mob's attention as a guage for how much dmg you're outputting.
RE: Im excited on the sam trait!
# Feb 21 2005 at 6:20 PM Rating: Decent
Refresh gives 150 MP.
It costs 40 MP. (Yes, it is not free like every non-Red Mage seems to think.)

In a normal party all my Refresh does is pay for itself and all the other Refreshes I'm casting. And I'm sure you'd prefer having downtime to wait for the Red Mage to heal between battles to make up for the almost continuous casting done throughout a battle (and between battles also, if Refresh timers are wearing) instead of having us simply Convert and be ready to go.

Sorry for this off-topic post but that kinda hit a nerve.

Fishing Improvements
# Feb 21 2005 at 4:55 PM Rating: Good
The fishing system is scheduled for some major improvements.
Here is an outline of the changes you can expect to see.

* New action-oriented system

-The rod will begin to shake wildly when something takes the bait.

-Countering the movement of the rod will reduce the stamina of your intended catch.

-A catch is best reeled in when its stamina is close to zero, so much more attention is required when compared to the current fishing system.

-In accordance with these changes, fishing skill will rise at twice the rate of the current system.

* Strengthening of lower-level fishing rods

-Lower-level rods such as the willow rod will become much more durable.

-Other new characteristics will determine the type of rod best suited for catching certain types of fish.

* Increased effects of fishing skill

-The method for comparing fishing skill and the level of the fish will be improved, making it easier for those with higher fishing skill to catch high-level fish.

* Other changes

-Everyone will gain a new "fishing instinct."

-The "instinct" of those with higher fishing skill will be more accurate.

This means fishing will actually be...could it be...fun?

Ummm... There are BCNM's currently that already Drop Raise III, this I know because this is how I obtained my Scroll of Raise III. E-vas-ive Action being the one that I got mine from. While its no easy battle, and, its uncapped 30 Kindred Seal's, it does drop here. Although, we have done this BCNM a total of 8 times now, and, Raise III dropped on the first battle, hadnt seen it since :(

They will more then likely add a BCNM that drops raise 3 that no one will do because the people who do want to do it will be to low, the ones who can do it would rather do other BCNM where they can make easier money. currently i think there are 2 ways of getting raise 3
Adamanking in Qulon dome(*sp)
Kirin in Shrine of Ru'Anne (major god, takes about 20 people to kill) adaman king is 100% drop rate, he pops once every 3-5 days like Nidhogg and King behemoth. you can kill him with maybe a party of 6 if your good and all 70+. Kirin it is very rare, i have never seen it drop from him when i killed.

POL.com just added more info on the update today, this on saying they will add new BCNM fights called ENM(Empty Notorious Monster).
They say that you dont lose exp when dying on this ones, you can get LARGE exp from beating them along with items; so, maybe, raise III will drop from one of em.

- Shields will reduce the amount of damage taken instead of negating all damage.

dammit! it takes so long to lvl up shield skill now it's screwed. It only blocks an enemies attack rarely anyways..now when an attack is finally blocked by a shield you still take damage. that blows! well now i guess i can go to scythe or something all the time since i can't get blocks from parry AND shield....hope parry still actually blocks an attack........

Pikko,

The way the update info sounds is that you'll have to already have a mannequin from the quest before you could buy another one.

"Mannequins of all races and genders will be available, but prospective purchasers must first complete the quest "It's Raining Mannequins." "

So those pieces you bought shouldn't have been for nothing :)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the extra mannequins have to do with trying to help players store their extra AF along with the NPC trade-in thing. Thats the only reason theyre adding this.

I wish I wasn't at the point where I could skill up on anima synthesis... I fell so ripped off:(

A while back I got an email from SE with the following in the ad:

"New methods of obtaining the spell "Raise III" are being considered." - I think that's what he meant.

I guess they were only "considering" it and didn't actually do anything about it. I had hoped they would, as Raise III is topping 5,000,000 on Odin.

I remember when they botched that a couple months back (and screwed it up so other parties wouldn't filter out unless you turned on the NPC filter -- which means you can't tell what pets or the mobs are doing) when they tried to "fix" it and they never did work on that...glad they finally got around to it. I was beginning to get used to turning all my filters on just so I didn't have to hear some noob pt dying every time I went to the dunes.

And yay for guild point item changes! Maybe now they'll ask for something reasonable...that you can actually make for less than you can buy from an NPC.

didnt they use to have a speical fish (gold carp i think) that if you fished up a GM would send you a message to check if you where botting or not? I think thats a great way to battle fish botters if they really wanted too, i understand that as many fishers that their are it would be hard to keep up, but even if every 1/100 moat carp caught a GM sent a tell to that person saying good job or what ever just so get any response to check if they are AFK or not. it wouldnt bother any real fishers i dont think, that would be MAYBE 1 msg a day if your unlucky. Over time this could cut most of the AFK botters out. that have a GM walk one circle around rabou and ban who ever is fishing and wont reply to a msg from them

I think thats a great idea, about the GM's going around messeging you if you catch a certain fish. or if they see some one fishing for like a hour and not moving to messege them too. but I think the new fishing way will be cool and cut down alot on the fishing bots to. SE is getting smart on some subjects, now all they gotta fix is all the NM bots, and gil sellers, now there ANNOYING.

I checked the offical page and saw something about new Notorious monster fights in "empty" that do not require Orbs. Part of the reward will be "large amounts of experience points".
Also of note is that if you are KOed in one of these fights you will not lose experience pts.

I am not sure if this will be part of this update or included in the next update. Here is the link.

So are these "Major Improvements" in the fishing system going to gimp the "Craft" again.
As someone who is trying to get a Lu Shang's fishing rod... and already fished up 400k worth of carp I would hate to see it get gimped again to make it harrder than it already is.

yeah, it's not to gimp it at all, they're adding more interactiveness to make it more fun for people who do it legitimately, and to stop botters who turn the bot on and then leave their comp.

The general consensus (on here, anyways...) has been that the proposed fishing changes are, in general, a really good change. Sure, the botters will probably be back in business after some time to tweak things, but a completely passive, in game activity is going to be made more active.
And this is in direct answer to one of the major complaints about fishing - it's -boring- for the vast majority of players.
It wouldn't be in the game if SE only intended for like, 2% of the game population to do it with any regularity, IMO.

Go to the PlayOnline main page, then look at one of the announcements. There is usually a link on the announcement that says something to the effect of "Click here for more information." Right-click on that link and copy the link location. Either that or open the link and copy the location from your URL bar.
