Thank you everyone for your entries! It's definitely been a trip down memory lane reading so many wonderful stories. The contest has now ended and we'll be finalizing the list of all qualified names before randomly selecting winners in a blind drawing.

Winners will be announced by 11:59pm Pacific Time on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Winners will also be notified via Private Messaging (PMs) on ZAM that they have won. We will update this article and post a new one as well informing everyone of the results!

This holiday season, Sony Online Entertainment and ZAM want to share the holiday spirit with the community with an epic contest! It doesn't matter if you play EverQuest, EverQuest II or want to dive into EverQuest Next Landmark, there is something for all Norrathians here. We have one grand prize and three Station Cash prizes from SOE, as well as a bonus for ten lucky people from ZAM!

  • GRAND PRIZE: One winner will receive codes to the collector's editions of the most recent EverQuest and EverQuest II expansions, Call of the Forsaken and Tears of Veeshan (a $90 value each), as well as a code for the EverQuest Next Landmark Trailblazer Founder's Pack (a $100 value; total prize value of $280)

How to Enter

  • The comment should focus on your favorite location in Norrath, in any EverQuest franchise title. Why is it your favorite place? Did something fun happen to you or your guild there? Do you just love the environment or lore of the location? Are you new to Norrath, but want to talk about a location you are excited to visit in-game?
  • You can supplement your comment by linking to a video or picture of this location! It's not required and won't affect your entry into the contest, but it's a lot more fun to share!
  • Deadline for entries is 11:59pm Pacific Time on Friday, December 27, 2013... that means you have one week to enter!
  • Only one entry per person, please!

Due to the amount of entries we have, comments may take a bit of extra time to load... patience, grasshopper!

How We Judge

I currently play EQ2 and one of my favorite zones is still Nest of the Great Egg. I can remember when it was an exciting and difficult place to be. Later when it became a zone for our alts, it wasn't as difficult, but it was still a lot of fun.

The hopper cave in dawnshroud peaks.
When shadows of luclin came out I lived in that cave 24/7 on Xegony farming pelts. I seemed to be the only one on the server so inclined to do so, as I was able to effectively corner the market on pelts for weeks on end. As a key ingredient for leveling tailoring and the quantity i could provide that essentially ensured getting the levels needed, I had several guilds paying whatever I asked. I miss games where being able to material farm was actually needed.

Side note my second favorite was velium farming in crystal caverns, the zone is beautiful, fun to run around in due to the maze like structure, and even has a bank making farming 200% effective. Binding a macro of /pet kill orc to my left and right movement keys ensured my pet was killing any orc withing range, even if I couldn't see it.

I still remember the first time i logged into Everquest and i entered the Dark Elf City. My first quest was to find my way out of this large city using no map. The city itself was a strange new land of wonder and strange new things. I have played MMOs like Ultima Online, Everquest, Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, and i have never loved another massive town like Neriak. My only wish for Everquest Next is to have citys that make you feel like you’re walking through a city. I want people starting their first MMOs to understand how massive the world is going to be from just walking around the city. Smiley: lol

I currently play eq2 but my favorite zone was the first eq's Kithicor forest. I used to hunt there all the time and then... one night, the sun set and it was up to your collarbone in dead guys who want to eat your face! Running kithicor at night to get from the east to the west was one of my favorite panic runs. I used to lead folks through who'd never been there at night before, and once i was of level, i hunted undead all night and foraged all day. it was great. and beautiful - the forest was one of the better done 'wilderness' feels in the early game.

I broke my teeth on EverQuest Online Adventures for the PS2, it was my first real MMORPG. I loved the game because it was a way to play with my best friend after school without riding my bike the 15 miles to his house.

EQOA will always hold a special place in my heart, places like Permafrost, the bandit and gnoll camps were just a great place to socialize and get experience points. The bandit camp is where I met a friend online named Rikemaru. We got to talking and became online pals, then shortly after that we started to talk on the phone. From the time I started playing EQOA when I was 13 years old to the time I graduated High School at 18, me and Rikemaru stayed friends and met in real life my senior year. He came to my house instead of me going on a senior trip. Then the next year I went to his house for his senior trip.

EverQuest has great locations in game, great players and a great development team backing it up. I think that EverQuest Next and Landmark will bring much more to this already great franchise. I am so excited about it I have already formed a pre-launch guild. I hope that future generations get to experience the magic and wonder of Norrath the same way I did.

On Norrath itself? The Hole. Just had a cool backstory, falling in the first time was hilarious (I got dueled on the ledge and mistakenly ran off lol.) Lots of mystery to it.

Overall? Grieg's End. It was a hilariously fun place to raid, if sometimes beyond impossible.

My Favorite zone, is in Eq2 The Thundering Stepps, its my favorite place because i use to play on vox and pvp there alot, and when i was my SK running around the stepps with my guildies a Person from the other faction Was flying over in a griffon and when they, jumped off the griffon i HT'ed them and it looked like as thought they Slide on their face when they Hit the ground. =)

I played Champions of Norrath on the PS2 but I have never been able to play it on PC. I missed the chance to get on Everquest with friends. I am excited about exploring all of the new lands. I really can't pick a favorite but I will be looking for the hard to find places that will be there.

In June of 1999 I finally was able to buy a computer and the at that time the new game EverQuest that i had been watching my fellow Sailor and friend play through beta and release in March. At the age of 33 and with ten years of service in the Navy I sat watching the loading screen with more anticipation than a child at Christmas time. As the music played I knew that I had found a new love in my life.

All these years later I am gray, balding, and retired from the Navy, and my passion for EverQuest still burns as bright as it did that first day. My love for the glorious game never faltered even though I had periods that due to commitments to my country and my family I was unable to play at times. And actually that love is more deeply set then ever before because it has became therapeutic to me now. Even though it may not be known there are many of us retired and disabled veterans that play the game. And a conversation with one of my fellow vets last week enlightened me that i was not the only one that the game has been a GREAT therapeutic outlet for me. After being injured in Desert Storm I have had numerous spinal surgeries and I live in pain daily that would floor most people and have for way over 20 years now. On those days that the pain is at its worst and medication is not helping I can log into my home away from home and amazingly my pain will not go away but it becomes so much more bearable because EverQuest in all its glory helps my mind to focus on the game rather than the pain.

Needless to say for me EverQuest is very special, and within that wonderful world the two places that will always be my favorite places even though they are obsolete now and the new players have no clue how truly awesome they were back in the day. The first is the newbie log not far from the entrance to Neriak. This was the gathering place where friendships, alliances and even loves were made on a daily basis back in the day. It was meeting place for all avid new recruits to gather and go on adventures and great hunts.

The place I say that ties with the Newbie log would have to be the then east commons tunnel. As a young dark elf or human grew and matured they would venture out to the world of the commons and the Tunnel was the new newbie log now where groups formed and planned for the next great adventure. This also was where if you needed an item you would go and sit and watch the auction channel and millions upon millions of platinum pieces were traded for items within that tunnel.

These two places no longer hold that glory of yesteryear but they will forever hold the heart and memories of this old dark elf necromancer.

I currently play EQ2, but my favorite place in all of Norrath is actually the original Kelethin in EQ1. It was where my Everquest journey first began over a decade ago and will always be home to me. I loved the little buildings nestled up high in the trees and still have the pathways to navigate through the city permanently etched in my mind. The best part of the zone though was the music! I will forever adore the music in Kelethin.

So, I play both EverQuest I and EverQuest II. It's really hard to say what my favorite zones are considering how long I have been playing both games. If I were to choose one in EverQuest I, I would probably pick North Ro. Why? Dorn B'Dynn is there, and I swear... every time I have a chance to kill that man, the better. Too many LDoN era times of getting my newbie self handed to me. All I wanted to do was kill a scarab...

As for EverQuest II, I would go with New Tunaria. The place is gorgeous, and the storyline is fairly interesting. My original character in EverQuest I was a High Elf, so seeing the changes in Felwithe from one game to the next has always been an interesting deal to me. Mistmoore seems to love the attention.

Man, my favorite zone? Vasty Deep: The Conservatory. The first time I entered it took my breath way. It's just so pretty. I still log in and head there just to see it and remind myself how pretty the game can be when it tries. I wish more people would recommend folks go there just to see the visuals.

For me it's from EQ2. It's hard to pick one zone, because every zone is beautiful and atmospheric in a way, but my favourite may be Antonica. You just stepped out of Queynos and you find yourself strolling on rolling hills and wide plains, while you are surrounded with that beautiful musical theme. You have got halflings there and gnolls, and you get to hop on a griffon for the first time. I just hope EQN will have the same quality of atmosphere both visual and music wise as EQ2 has.

This is very tough since I played just about every EQ title thats been released. But my favorite memory would have to be finding some good friends when Kunark came out for Everquest at Mountain Giant Fortress in Frontier Mountains. I still keep in touch with a lot of those friends today and we sometimes reminisces about our countless hours at the entrance of the fortress pulling and having a good time.

In EverQuest, my favorite zone is Plane of Knowledge (PoK).

PoK really was a pivotal point in EQ's history. Races of good, bad, and neutral could finally meet, face to face in a peaceful setting without wandering through dangerous and large landscapes. People would have open conversations in public. You would meet people you might otherwise not have on a daily basis. Guilds would form here for raiding time, announce MGB's (MGB's being new to Luclin and the AA system at this time) and 100's of people would come for the MGB's completely lagging the zone.

PoK offered a grand library with spells and a plethora of NPC's full of lore. There were quests in the outlying areas (my favorite were those Plane of X ones where you can turn in armor for xp/gems).

There were banks; two of them. Most importantly, it was a hub for tradeskilling and really allowed those that never got into the trade before, able to finally give it a try. Vendors abound with the necessary supplies and plenty of kilns and ovens for all (though you may have had to wait on one hehe).

To this day, being in PoK installs a tranquil wave of nostalgia and comfort for all the great memories made there. I still go to PoK to tradeskill; that music when your inside the bars and the overall feel never get old.

For me, my favorite zone in EverQuest is Plane of Knowledge.

I played EQ1 for quite a number of years. Just recently, I have come back to Everquest in playing EQ2, even though I bought the game at launch. My favorite place has to be so far from Everquest 1, sitting on the hill above the old tunnel in Eastern Commonlands, watching the sunset over the hills bordering Nektulos Forest. My old guild mates and I used to hold meetings up there and role play as well back in the day. It is fun getting back into the lore again after this number of years, and feeling the old happiness come back when I hear the login music.

Ahh, yes. Way back in the day of being a poor level 15 Magician. EverQuest holds the title for most nostalgic game and most epic experience EVER, for me.

Fondly, I was out to make money. Why? I coudn't tell you. Killing desert madmen and mummies was my method of choice... until that blasted ghoul came in like a wrecking ball...

Not a big issue out in Oasis. Now it was time to make a trip over to Spectre Isle to see if a higher-level Necro left the corpses on the ground, for a few plat. Nope, nothing.

Let's head over to orc highway.

My favorite place and memory was from Crystal Caverns in Eastern Wastes. My husband, my brother in-law and I used to brave the dangerous Crystal Caverns. In order to enter successfully and without dying, we used to cast invisibility on us and then levitate, and we would float down and say a little prayer that we would make it down to the bottom. It was an eerie feeling to float by all the grunting and dangerous Ry'gorr orcs in there, hoping the invis-spell would hold up on all three of us. If we made it, we would head to the tunnels where the Geonids were and hunt them for experience and loot. Overall, I have many good memories from those good old days in EQ. It was one of the games where I felt as if I was actually "in" the game and not just steering a character!

I think New Tunaria is one of the best zones visually (in EQ2).... However I think my favorite location has to be multiple locations .. and by that I mean Guildhalls. They can be on stop shops for all your Banking and crafting needs, they act as travel and social hubs and with some effort you can make them look like anything you want.

A close 2nd is the bridge into the room of Roehn Theer .. because it killed sooo many people :)

I played EQ 1 and i play EQ2, and from all the zones and moments that i really miss i put the expansion Luclin and Ssraeshza Temple as the one above everything, very good zones, very good histories, impressive lore...
Dunno if i remenber better than it was, but i really miss the feel of danger and adventure when we fput our first steps ont his moon...
Hope they can repeat this sense of inmersion with EQ Next...

I have had so many favorite zones, Black burrow was so much fun in the day huge trains people everywhere, corpse run, easy to get a group.

Ldon were a lot of fun with all sorts of made up groups. It made life interesting, one of the best times was playing a rogue and we had a warrior and ranger and that was all for our 20 lvl group. We did win but had to zone alot haha

Best achievement was getting my ranger epic 1.0 made me able to solo and get groups easier.

Joining a raid guild was a lot of fun, as well as pressure to keep up with the content and in the end become the best guild on the server.

As groups got harder to find and merc were introduce, I like alot of other started 3 boxing. With work and family life taking over this still allows me to enjoy my favorite game of all time. 14 years I have been playing and I doubt ill ever give it up. May we always enjoy EVERQUEST

My favorite zone would have to be Solusek's Eye in EQ. I spent a lot of time in that zone when I first started playing EQ. Was trying to catch up to my friends that were much higher level. That zone had some good xp at the time, and was very fun killing all the goblins running around. Was also the very first zone that I saw from the game as my friend was leveling there when he got me sucked into the game.

My favorite zone/location is Blackburrow in EQ1. As strange as it sounds, one of my fondest memories was soloing in BB and getting killed at the bottom of the hollow tree (after falling to my death). After many unsuccessful attempts at a corpse run, I had to wait for my friend (who had a higher level character) to log in so he could drag my sorry corpse back to the entrance so I could get my gear back.
