1st WoW Minis Expansion Now in Stores

Spoils of War, the first expansion for the World of Warcraft Miniatures Game, is now in stores. Upper Deck has added 51 new prepainted miniatures to the lineup, including such characters as Lady Vashj, Lady Jaina Proudmoore and Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider.

In addition to the new characters, Spoils of War adds new Action Bar cards to the mix. For example, Shamans can now use Chain Heal or a Wrath of Air totem, while Druids can buff their allies with Mark of the Wild. Custom equipment will also help your characters prepare for battle.

Booster packs containing three random figures are now available for a suggested retail price of $14.99. Each minis booster pack also comes with a free pack of cards from the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game. More information on the expansion can be found after the jump.

Diamond Names WoW Minis Game Product of Year

For the second year in a row, Upper Deck has been recognized by Diamond Comics in its 2008 Diamond Gem awards. For those who don't know, Diamond is the world's largest distributor of English-language comics and related merchandise. Upper Deck was named sports card manufacturer of the year and earned the non-sports card product of the year for Marvel Masterpieces. But the most noteworthy news to us at Allakhazam is that Upper Deck's World of Warcraft Miniatures Game was named game product of the year.

“We worked hard to ensure that the miniatures and gameplay were true to the online experience. It is always Upper Deck’s goal to set a new standard of quality when entering a market, and we have done it again with the World of Warcraft Miniatures Game,” said Margeaux Sullivan, Brand Manager for the World of Warcraft Miniatures Game.

More information on WoW Minis can be found on the game's official Web site. The full press release can be found after the jump.

World of Upper Deck

Growing up, I cut my teeth on interactive table top games like Hero's Quest and Dungeons and Dragons. I remember begging my younger brothers to try all the games so I would have someone to play with. As I got older I found it increasingly difficult to find anyone to join me. Eventually I discovered MMORPGs and, naturally, my gaming focus shifted gears.

Recently I was introduced to a new game that incorporates both my current infatuation with MMOs and my lifelong love for table top gaming. Who would do such a thing you ask? Someone you may know all too well if you grew up collecting baseball cards -- Upper Deck Entertainment. I sat down for a game of their new 'World of WarCraft: Miniatures Game' with Anna Maria Mannino from Upper Deck's marketing division.

Upper Deck is, once again, pushing the World of WarCraft franchise adding to their already popular Trading Card Game with this new offering.  In my opinion, they're onto something big! Expected to hit store shelves on November 11th this quality product is everything you would expect from a box that says Blizzard and Upper Deck!
