Wakfu Patch Adds New Classes and 'Arcade' Dungeons

Square Enix just released Wakfu patch 0.305, and this one introduces the Sacrier and Xelor classes to the game. It also includes two new "arcade" dungeon types: Time Attack dungeons that must be completed quickly, and Survival dungeons that require players to face waves of enemies.

Square Enix Releases Wakfu Ecosystem Trailer

Square Enix has released a new video that provides some detail's on Wakfu's ecosystem. As the narrator points out, the game's world is always changing:

"You wield the power to protect or destroy natural resources in an ever-evolving ecosystem. Because everything you do has lasting impact, Wakfu is never the same world twice. Unlike other massively multiplayer games, this world doesn't just regenerate resources, it's always changing."

Latest Wakfu Patch Adds Two New Classes

A new Wakfu patch is now available, and this one introduces two new character classes to the closed beta. Players can now try out the Ecaflips, reckless gamblers who leave everything to chance, and the Enutrofs, treasure hunters looking for the mother lode.

Players can also now venture to the new territory Emelka in the land of Amakna, or visit the City of Mercenaries, Astrub. To top things off, Square Enix has implemented a major development of the Political System which grants Governors the ability to set policies and appoint their own government officials. Details on Wakfu's Next Patch and Political System

The Wakfu team's been busy! Two new posts on the game's official site outline the game's massive political system featurecontent that's coming in patch 0303 on April 20.

The political system preview is a lengthy article that provides all sorts of details on the feature. You'll be able to become a citizen of a nation, run for governor, enforce laws and much more. As for patch 0303, it will introduce two new classes, three new zones, a fleshed out government, improved audio and other changes.

Wandering in Wakfu: Ankama's Ambitious MMO Sequel

In an industry that's filled to the brim with generic MMORPG buzz words like "casual friendly," "next-generation graphics," and "action-packed combat," Ankama Studios' incredibly successful turn-based 2D MMORPG, Dofus, has always stood out as a rare MMO that walks its own path. Now, six years after Dofus barrelled out of France and took the world by surprise, Ankama Studios and North American publisher Square Enix are getting ready to, once again, venture off the beaten path with their highly anticipated MMO sequel, Wakfu.

With Wakfu's open beta just around the corner (April 27 internationally, which doesn't include North America), I decided to grab my closed beta key to venture back into Ankama's beautiful world.

Wakfu Open Beta Begins on April 27

UPDATE: Square Enix just clarified that the international open beta date is April 27, but this plan does not include North America. The NA date will be announced in the future.

If you've been wanting to try out Wakfu, it looks like you won't have to wait much longer. Square Enix and Ankama announced today that the open beta will begin on April 27, which is when the free-to-play game will become available to all players.

Run for Governor in Wakfu's Political System

In honor of President's Day, Square Enix has revealed some information and screenshots surrounding Wakfu's political system, which allows players to run for governor of their nation. Check out the details after the jump and the images in our gallery.

Wakfu is currently in closed beta and is scheduled to launch in spring 2011. For more details, head over to the game's North American site.

Wakfu NA Closed Beta Begins

The North American closed beta for Square Enix's Wakfu has begun. All accounts that were created before before midnight PST on January 31st have been granted access to the closed beta. Once basic server stability has been tested additional invites will become available.

What does the Wakfu closed beta offer? Well, you can choose from one of the three classes currently available (Iop, Cra or Enirpsa) and explore the three large zones called Incarnam, Bonta and Amakna. Additional content and updates are already in the works, so head on over to the Wakfu beta to get a first look at this upcoming MMO.

Wakfu Closed Beta Begins in NA on January 31

Square Enix announced today that Wakfu will enter closed beta in North America on Jan. 31. To apply for the closed beta, head over to the game's official site and create an account. The account will automatically be placed on the closed beta waiting list.

A redesigned North American Wakfu website launched today to coincide with the closed beta announcement. Browse through it to learn more about the free-to-play tactical MMO and check out the latest trailer after the jump. Wakfu is scheduled to launch in North America this spring.
