PAX: Our Hands-On Look at Dragon Nest

Nexon unveiled the new hands-on demo for its upcoming free-to-play action MMO Dragon Nest at PAX East. The game is developed by Eyedentity Games and is scheduled to launch this summer in North America. It combines fast-paced action with a distinct art style to create a fun to play fantasy game. Global Marketing Assistant Moon Kim was excited to walk me through the new demo and showcase the game's real-time instant gameplay.

"The strength of Dragon Nest is that everything happens in fast action. All the actions you take are real-time actions. So you dodge in real time and you attack in real time. Even if you have only one hit point left, you can dodge and attack to stay alive and still have a chance to defeat your enemies," said Kim.

ZAM Plays the Trooper in SW:TOR's PAX East Demo

If you were on the floor at PAX East over the weekend, you couldn't help but notice the massive Star Wars: The Old Republic booth. Players lined up for hours to get their hands on the Taral V Flashpoint demo, while others crowded near the stage to watch various presentations and take pictures with Darth Vader, stormtroopers and some Jedi.

Luckily, I had the opportunity to try out the demo from the perspective of a Trooper Vanguard. This meant I was jumping into the instance as a level 32 tank and just learning my abilities for the first time. No pressure, right?

'Fate of the Galaxy' Trailer Unveiled at PAX East

Star Wars: The Old Republic has a strong presence at PAX East, and BioWare has kicked things off by releasing a new trailer called "Fate of the Galaxy." Here's the official description of the video:

"Tension between the Republic and the Empire is running high. The uneasy truce established by the Treaty of Coruscant is quickly tearing apart at the seams, and a return to all-out war has begun in all but official terms. A new generation of heroes, both light and dark, emerges to face the difficulties of these chaotic times, and fight for the fate of the galaxy in this most desperate age."

The trailer was created using in-game footage. Watch it after the jump and keep an eye on ZAM for more Star Wars: The Old Republic coverage from PAX East!

Tribes Franchise Gets Rebirth with Tribes: Ascend

Back in October 2010, Hi-Rez Studios announced that it was the proud new owner of the Tribes franchise and revealed that it is developing Tribes Universe, a persistent world MMOFPS that can handle large-scale combat.

Well, the good news keeps coming for Tribes fans. Today at PAX East, Hi-Rez unveiled an announcement trailer for Tribes: Ascend, a multiplayer shooter that will launch in late 2011 and pave the way for Tribes Universe.

Hi-Rez Studios COO Todd Harris confirmed that the company is still committed to developing the Tribes MMO, but feels this move is the best way to reintroduce the sci-fi franchise to the world:

"Before Halo, before Modern Warfare, and before Battlefield, there was Tribes. Tribes fans appreciate the game's essence - athletic FPS combat combined with teamwork and strategy.  As we began development of Tribes Universe, we focused first on capturing that essence - refining and modernizing iconic elements like jetpacks, skiing, and vehicles. We’ve had tremendous fun play-testing and realized the potential of a multiplayer focused title ahead of Tribes Universe. The community has been waiting for a multi-player shooter that is the modern successor to T2. Tribes: Ascend is that game.”

Tribes: Ascend will be available as a single purchase digital download on PC and Xbox 360. Additional consoles are currently under consideration. Check out the teaser trailer after the jump!
