My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 is overFollow

That's it, no more new poni until next fall. The "season finale" aired today and its already up on YouTube.

I won't spoiler it for those who already know the Power of the Pony.

For the rest of you skeptics who still don't get the awesomeness of G4 Ponytime, let me try to put into words why it is so @#%^ing awesome and why you should give it a chance.

1. The show is for kids, but contains adult jokes. Lauren Faust and her team are a bunch of geeks, and they have all sorts of little jokes that are put in there for the parents. While the toys are all left in the 7 and under age range ("Pony wears the saddle!" proclaims one toy box), the cartoon rolls through some very established plot lines in a very funny way. Like, there's a few racing episodes, and the smart pony, Twilight Sparkle (whose name in itself is a poke at Stephanie Meyers) ends up with the number 42.

2. Each pony has a distinct personality. Each one is likable in her own way, but each one has her own flaws too. Things don't always work out the way they expected it to. Every episode ends with a lesson, of course (it IS a kid's show), but the moralistic lecture isn't overdone, and it's presented in the form of a report to another character instead of breaking the fourth wall.

3. Princess Celestia is the biggest troll in any animated series, ever. I love her to bits. She's a thousand years old and bored out of her skull and isn't afraid to ***** with people's heads for her own entertainment.

4. Animation quality is consistently good and the voice acting is astonishingly good.

5. The fandom for the series has put out some funny sh*t, and pranked many a person, including some prominent webcomic artists. I love this fandom. There's the usual rule 34 junk from the 4chan bronies, but there's also some serious creative and artistic output of a less dubious nature. Pony images are the LOLcats of 2011.

So there ya have it. Five reasons to go to YouTube and start watching MLP:FIM from episode 1 and end on 26 (and then wait til next fall with the rest of us for more.)

Because ponies!

I don't know why, but the word "bronies" makes me want to punch a child.

ROCK FARMS. FARMS WHERE PONIES MOVE ROCKS FROM ONE SIDE OF THE FIELD TO ANOTHER. WITH THEIR FACES. If that isn't proof that Celestia is evil, then how about how Nightmare Moon seems to have vanished after the first two episodes? Bet she's been imprisoned in the moon again, or moving rocks with her head. Even her pet Phoenix is a goddamn troll.

As far as fandom is concerned, I for one enjoy making some of these pictures. There are plenty of stills that lead to hilarious captions.

As far as the show itself, I don't think it was nearly as amazing as some people make it out to be, but it was very good. Much like Pixar, who's aim tend to be children movies that adults will enjoy watching with their kids. Like you said, great animation and voice acting and most importantly the lack of intelligence insulting most cartoons nowadays tend to have. I just don't think it was as good as The Real Ghostbusters.

True, it is not the deepest, most serious, or most awesome animated girls TV show I've ever seen. (That prize still goes to Revolutionary Girl Utena... they're middle and high schoolers fighting over the right to bring on the Apocalypse. And the dean pretty much sleeps with half the cast. And they turn into racecars. Yeah, no American girl's cartoon is going to top that.)

But I think it's near the quality of the second gold age of Warner Brothers - this is definitely on par with Tiny Toon Adventures, and gets pretty close to Animaniacs on my Scale Of Awesome.

Really though, it's the captionable nature of their expressions that will make it endure.

Hiss back to OoT with you!! Take your ponies and begon Smiley: clown

I would watch but my wife would probably disown me at that point, she has a hard enough time with some anime I watch and that seems to push it.

Ahhh, it's sad because the season is over, but it sure went out with a hell of a bang.

This is one of the most unexpected and awesome developments this season. She started off as little more than a plot device - she ended up as a troll prankster.

By the way, thanks for converting me to this show catwho. I was pretty close by the time I snapped on alla and asked about all the avatars, but you were the one that pushed me over the edge :)
