Wish Moe were here to answer this one.

Everyone always says, "How on Earth did you get this way?" And I always say, "Well, you know, just the usual All-American combo of sex, drugs and Rock & Roll. Some books, music, wine, chocolate, dance, poetry, shoe shopping, ****, vodka, art, openhearted women, yoga and dogs, Chopin, working and lots of self deprecation. Except when ego gets in the way. And they say, "Oh, I see. Well, OK then. Where can I get me some of that good stuff?"

Most of the time I end up telling them to f'uck off. Happy-wappy, ************ roll it, flip it, slap it on a bing bong "Who's Better, Britney or Christina" posts really make me sick. It is pablum. Superfluous crap, mostly, that differs not quite as much as you might think from the Asylum posts, except that you people let it ride, and answer the festering boil of a question instead of dealing with the person appropriately. We don't hate you. I don't at least. You are beneath me, the collective you. I am superior to the lot of you. Many of us are superior to the lot of you. I would definitely say we don't hate you.

Aw, come on. I was nice in that one. I didn't swear once. I just told the truth. Don't be mean. ;)

This is the Out of Topic forum, afterall. I can't think of anything more Out of Topic than Brittney and Christina.

While it may be superfluous crap to you (and many of us), to the poster, maybe he (or she) really really REALLY wants to know. Maybe he (or she) is undecided in which CD to purchase, or whom he should be imagining pole dancing while ... entertaining himself (or herself, we musn't be sexist).

As is said to many a person who posts on a thread only to say, "What the hell is this utter bovine fecal matter?" - if you don't want to read it, don't. :)

Because really.. the amount I know about Brittney and Christina you could clump together in the following words: They're both females. They're both singers. They're both popular. They're both 13 year old boys wet-dream superstars.

I don't want to read about who is better, nor do I care what other people think. So I just won't read the entire thread. Saves me a headache and a few braincells that were spared from having to read and comprehend the thread.

I'll leave reading and posting on those threads to those who think such a topic is important. More power to them. Have fun. :P I'll just stay out of it. Thanks. They don't need me to tell them how insignificant I find their topic, and how stupid I think they are because that's the only thing they find worthy of posting about. They obviously thought it was worth posting.

Heh, a person is worthy, people are stupid. :)

A lot of people who post on an OOT forum (and even in the FFXI forum...) are posting on it because they're bored, and thus, they don't have the time (or interest in waking up their brain cell(s)) to try to think of an interesting and pertinent topic to everyone. So they burp out, "Who do you like better?" threads, because at the moment, that is what is most important or pertinent to them (or at least, what they think is the funniest thing to post about).

Those threads have their amusement. But they'll fall off the front page eventually, leaving those posts with such pertinent staying power (like whatever the Round 2 thread is about, apparently) around for such intelligent and distinguished people like yourself to post on.

The reason I didn't post on the original OOT thread was because when I went there to read a few intersting titled threads, I quickly became alarmed at the way the verbal abuse ensued shortly after the initial post. I'm sure, looking at it now, that some of it was probably the usual give and take of abuse-between-friends. But a few that I read had someone replying in a polite manner, and being summarily ripped apart for expressing their views. No thanks.

You may think of it as the FFXI's are just all Chocobo-hugging Moogle-happy, kupo-heads. So we don't lance the proverbial festering boil of superfluous "Vs." threads. But I tend to think of it as the fact that we just don't make (as much) fun of people because they have different opinions of what is an appropriate Out of Topic thread to talk about. :)

It's hard to cure apparent stupidity by insulting it.
The insulted party usually sums it up to the insultor being a male donkey or a horses rump, and go on their merry way, feeling righteously justified in making up a Voodoo doll and jabbing pins into its eyes. :P

Sure, they may leave the forum/thread, but then you lose out on any potential intelligent remarks that person may one day make. And lose out on the potential threads you can read and shake your head about the verbal garbage you're reading, then make appropriately smarmy remarks that will undoubtedly go right over their heads (or through their ears).

If you really think it's a problem with all the OOT-lite posts you hate reading, we can always hit Allakhazam up for the "Serious Out of Topic Forum", in which the only things worth discussing are deep philosphical concepts, religion, politics, morality, current global events, the economy and world peace... but I don't think he'll go for it. ;)

It was a valiant effort, Kaolian. (Really, you need to stop posting such inflammatory things, Kaolian! What do you expect? Sheesh! ;)

But so far, it's still a polite discussion, completely devoid of extraneous insults and improper derogatory terms? :) So, not all is lost! :) Yet. :)

Granted, all are equal in their right to post trite and meaningless content, but as is incumbant upon members of any group, it would be a sad state of affairs were the entire body of "OOT" posters to hold comment on the insipid out of some sort of "to each his or her own" attitude. The wonder of the internet is that people from all around the world can gather and be told that they are all idiots in their own right, at various times. The joy of community is to be able to share with each other. Here, in this post, I am sharing with you that your world view is disturbing. As reflected in your response, you believe that the opinions of all are valid. Frankly, what a sad world that would be. The opinions of the uneducated and the unnecessary are not only invalid, but demanding of serious and severe critique.

It is too late for that when I read a subject line wondering who looked best in a fez. A [expletive deleted] fez. Knowing enough that Akido can be painful when applied at close range by a skilled practitioner, a hunting rifle and high magnification scope are all it would take to rid the world of Smash's [expletive deleted] fez threads.

Who are we kidding? Any man not gay or dead would [expletive deleted] either of them in the [expletive deleted] repeatedly at the drop of a hat.

This removes responsibility from the poster for the brain cells lost reading the title and knowing full well what the thread entails. to paraphrase a movie, frankly I feel dumber having read the title. Lack of a forceful and forthright response makes one complicit in the dumbing down of our little world.

And this, this attitude of let Bambi's mother live, of clap for Tinkerbell, of let's vote for more welfare, is the heart of the problem. How will a man (or woman, for that matter, though more of a losing battle there) know he is an idiot if I don't tell him? How will a person grow from constructive criticism if at least one person does not advocate unplugging the computer and using it as the weight to hold him to the bottom of a river? How will the gene pool be free from future breeding by the chromosomally challanged if we do not at least suggest locating the trigger with his big toe and blowing his [expletive deleted] head off?

My work is done with you all in mind. Mine is the self appointed task of Gene Pool Man. Skimming the leaves off the top, and scraping clean the bottom are tasks held near and dear to my heart. Merrily I make my rounds and sometimes I even get lucky and get a hummer from the old lady who runs the place. I do it with love, I do it for you.

Sorry, I've been busy the last two days. Do you want to continue this discussion, or leave it at our two dissertations on our views and let it go? :)

I did read it when it was posted and it made me chortle. While I don't quite agree with your posted point of view, I do like the way you said it. :) You take insults to a whole new level. Did you practice to get that good, or is it a natural ability? :)

(And that's really an honest question! You remind me remarkably of a good friend of mine who died a few years back. It makes me nostalgic to read what you said, actually. Fond were my days of listening to Mike talk about needing to weed out the stupid people from the world and telling idiots to shut up in new and interesting ways.)

Huggy, kissy sentiment brought to you at Allahs request!

MoebiusLord, I really disliked your posts when you first started, uh, posting in the real OOT. You came off as a cranky overblown dolt, a Smasharoo lite without the wit or political fetish, but now I'm kinda warming up to you. You're still a pompous ***, but now I see you in a whole new light, the light of shared sentiments. The whiny children should have stayed in FFXI if they didn't want to deal with Darwinism in action.

Sorry, I tried, but I just can't be nice. It hurts my head.

You dug up a thread full of well written replies from nearly two years ago and to it you add what? Some sniveling butthurt crap? This is precisely the type of post which makes you ill-suited to be an asylum poster. Let us explain why:

First, you demonstrate that you won't take the time required to type out a message with actual sentences, correct punctuation or spelling. That's only acceptable if you're obviously under the influence of something.

Second, you are wearing your heart on your sleave, which is to say it is far too obvious how one should go about pushing your buttons. You really don't want to let on how important the whole acceptance thing is to you, it just comes off as pathetic.

Third, you are adding nothing. There was an exchange of thought occurring in this thread. Yep, that's what it is when people bounce ideas back and forth, and it's really rather difficult to accomplish when you post less than complete thoughts.

What you have accomplished here is akin to necrophilia in more than just the common prefix. You dug up this delightful thread for the sole purpose of bastardizing it, and for that you cannot be forgiven.

Thanks for diggin' it up, though, I do always love when Moe takes the opportunity to show what a big softy he is.

#49REDACTED, Posted: Apr 15 2006 at 11:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You know he IS 13, right? If you want him to write up retorts that are of literary merit you might want to explain to him how to write one in such a way that isn't demeaning or that reflects poorly upon your character.
#50REDACTED, Posted: Apr 15 2006 at 11:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) And now were hijacking the two year old thread!
