Is Earthquake really worth the talent point?

I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've cast this. And it's at the very bottom of the tree.

Maybe I'm missing something?

Simply put ... yes.

Long and probably the best main answer:

Knockdown.

While Earthquake does affect any number of targets for damage, it has greater worth in it's knockdown effect that is useful on groups that have casters or mobs with channeled abilities.

In 4.1 Earthquake is being changed from an 8s channeled spell to a 2s cast/10s duration spell (despite the 40% dmg reduction for some stupid reason).

Your needs may vary, but Earthquake's use as an AoE knockdown/interrupt is imo easily worth one talent point.

To be fair, this change will give Elemental Shaman more mobility, something they are in sore need of. Also, you can be casting other AoE spells during the 6 seconds you are no longer channeling Earthquake. My guess is someone at Blizzard felt it would be overpowered to keep the same dmg on Earthquake if you can be casting other AoE spells at the same time.
