Him: You know, I think gamer gaters are so rabid about attacking their perceived enemies (that is, random strangers on the Internet) because they're afraid if they don't, no one will make games with boobies in them any more.
While I generally think the whole GG thing is a trolltastic farse belched out from the underbowels of 4chan, I do find some irony that in their alleged crusade against SJWs they've basically become the monsters they hate with a different coat of paint.
For example, for those who follow recent anime, Funimation did a dubcast of Prison School. Totally a NSFW show, by the way. Anyway, localization of a line that took place in an arcade between a guy and a girl had the girl saying, "You aren't one of those Gamergate creep shows, are you?" and as one might surmise, they were bashing the actress who spoke it, writers, Funimation, and ultimately throwing one giant hissy fit in comment sections, twitter, etc.. Knowing of a lot of the doxxing, sl*t shaming, harassment, and other sad behavior that went on when the movement was more at its peak, the line doesn't at all seem out of place in the overall context of the scene.
The whole ethics in journalism thing might've been the one good cause some of the more sane people tried to wrest from it all, but it's hard to shake the feeling it all just began for the lulz. Otherwise, they're no real different than Republicans having the nutjob sect of the Tea Party or whatever other undesirables a group may have.
