Yes, but it's most certainly an issue of old/new. Old system/new system. Old generation/new generation.

You don't think them discontinuing MPs has anything to do with them launching the XBone? Smiley: dubious

But both of them still use the Xbox Live marketplace. 360/XBone, it's still your Live account and your Live accounts value.

If they were phasing out Xbox Live and making a new separate system called "Xbox One Live" and the two accounts were separate, it'd be an issue of Old vs New. Right now the points you have be it old MS Points or new dollar value in your wallet, doesn't make a difference, it's all on Xbox Live. The money would have to be spent on Live, it wouldn't be going anywhere. Instead they decide that regardless of whether or not you pick up an Xbox One or stick with your 360, your previous Xbox Live account balance will reset to zero after that one year, regardless if you spent money on those points previously or not. They aren't forcing you to choose one generation or the next...

I think it was just a convenient time for them to change from a point to dollar system. XBox Live could have easily used Points and Dollars for the distant future, points were just viewed negatively by the user base as a whole, mainly due to the 800 points = 10 dollars thing.

For those worrying about armed forces personnel in remote countries not being able to play games on their Xbox One due to infrequent Internet, they don't have to worry any more.

Those games won't work anyway unless they are in one of the Microsoft approved countries.

Seriously what other anti-consumer things can they do ? At this point it seems like they are TRYING to lose sales.

Cons:
Cant play used
Has to check in over net once a day or doesnt work
Cant be played in non-sanction countries
Cant change the HDD with a better cheaper one
Can't borrow or Loan games to friends
Kinect is always watching you
Pay wall for entertainment software? (Netflix hulu etc)
Costs 100 more then the PS4

Pros: It plays games?

Apparently Asian countries will be supported in late 2014, a year after launch.

I'm assuming they felt piracy and related issues are so great they will come out ahead on the $$$ side?

Not exactly an elegant solution to the problem. Smiley: rolleyes

It feels like XBone is trying to lose. Is this like "The Producers" or something?

Honestly I feel bad for Rare and other Xbox Exclusive companies they are the ones going to be hurt the most since the install base will be crap til MS pulls their head out and makes changes.

Considering the PS4 isn't even region locked for games, this is just insane.

Wtf is Microsoft doing?

As a typical US consumer, whether or not my console will work in S. Africa ranks about 10,000 places below "Needs internet" which doesn't rank especially high itself.

I'm sure someone out there has some compelling reason why this would be very important to him. That's fine and I fully endorse him buying a console that works in S. Africa. Most people aren't that guy.

Well, no one cares about Africans. But what about Asian markets. And it looks like Portugal is left out of the European market as well.

My understanding is that the Xbox360 did rather poorly in Asian markets. I'm guessing they're not a priority for MS.

True not typical but general consensus is they are fighting for that consumer, therefore should be able to have a little special treatment.

Look at airlines, they no longer charge Soldiers for Luggage cuase of public outcry. Also TSA etc get in big trouble for bothering soldiers.

Its kind of a **** move to say "You can fight for our freedom Overseas, but you cant play Xbox One when your overseas"

Edit: I have a few friends that went to the army and overseas first thing they all bought to take with was a Xbox 360 so they had something to do on the downtime.

The military uses modified Xbox controllers due, in part, to how familiar a large portion of the military is to the Xbox 360.

The 360 was not well received in many Asian markets, but according to M$, that's not the only case. According to them, they are improving the Kinect for smaller rooms and want to make sure they're ready to offer the necessary support. The console will be released in Asia late 2014.

Yes, yes... marketing ********* I know.

Nonsense. Does everyone need to ensure global coverage or access or else they're being ****** Microsoft isn't signing people up for the military and has nothing to do with someone's choice to "fight for our freedom".

Which doesn't mean they're a large part of MS's overall audience. According to lolWiki, 25.4 million Xbox's were sold in the US as of March 2011. There's 1.4 million people in the entire active United States Armed Services. If every one of those people owned an Xbox, they would still make up only 5% of Xbox 360's total sales. Obviously the number is far less than that; both more Xbox 360's have sold since March 2011 and far fewer than 100% of the US Armed Forces own them. I'd be surprised if the real number broke 1% of Xbox 360's going to active service members.

I'm not saying that Microsoft wouldn't like to have them. But Microsoft obviously isn't going to change their model on account of perhaps 1% of their US market.

Yeah, but policies that effectively bar them from use is going to be very poor for Microsoft's public image, which can only hurt them. So the total lost sales is higher than the actual number of lost sales to soldiers.

And there are some really... odd... countries missing on that list. Portugal was already mentioned. And the lack of support for Eastern Europe is just plain weird. Plenty of those countries are quite wealthy. Slovakia, Greece, Turkey. No India. No New Zealand. No Egypt. No South Africa. Not to mention the rest of the Asian market, where the 360 has been launched - South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong.

I suppose the XBone is just trying to double down on the US? The PS3 sold better in Europe than the 360 did (though the 360 still had 10% higher sales overall).

Since their additional features won't even work outside the US, I suppose they've just said f*** it at this point...

Though they did do well in the UK...

Ball is really in Sony's court for that one. Considering how aggressive their marketing has been, I'd be shocked if they didn't capitalize on this at some point.
