I don't know why the PS3 has so many issues with Skyrim. I've had absolutely none on the PC.

Thankfully, this is the first major problem that I've had with it. I didn't experience the lag issue that others had.

Reinstalling game data now. My character was left standing on top of a big waterfall. Will swan dive off it and update with results.

EDIT: 'Tis fixed. Underwater looks all pretty now. Smiley: smile

The only issue I had with the PC version so far was the hot pink logs in some of the fire-pits. Also the crappy Follower AI pathing.

Is anyone else reminded of Jason Statham every time Devlin Mallory starts talking?

Not related to my question, but still funny.

I forgot that they were releasing on the 360 first.

It's a ridiculously stupid plan. By the time that month is up, all the hype will have died.

I'm sure they'll be real choked up as they cash that fat Microsoft check. Smiley: tongue

But yeah, timed exclusives are obnoxious. What's more insulting, to me, is that they're purported to be for the players' benefit. Publishers always try to couch it in terms of a player base "getting the game early". As if Zenimax is doing Xbox users a favor by having Bethesda work extra hard to get the Xbox version out ahead of time. A lot of people are gullible enough to believe that.

In reality, it's just delayed for everyone else.

Meh. I'll be waiting until it's 70% off on Steam anyway.

My brother completely lost days of his life in Skyrim too! Open world gaming is definitely the future for this kind of immersive gameplay. In the end it will probably be like the virtual reality game that appears in the TV show Red Dwarf: Better Than Life (video clip), where you forget what's real and what isn't.

I'm looking forward to the launch of Core Blaze in 2013 which also promises to be a flexible open world game. They recently put up some new screenshots on their Facebook page that show some pretty awesome lighting effects (thanks to the Unreal 3 Engine it's built on).

New trailer up for Dawnguard.

Thoughts? Personally I find it kind of underwhelming. The vampirism stuff isn't for me, so I can pencil myself out for roughly half of the content, by the looks of it. And most of the trailer was showcasing the "vampire lord" character (it was first demoed back during that "developer jam" video a ways back), so there wasn't a whole heck of a lot else for me to get psyched for.

Of course, I'm sure there's a lot more to see. It's just that this particular trailer didn't do it for me.

Also, c'mon, just add spears already. You can't show that you made them, and then just not include them. That's just cruel. Smiley: motz

Yeah, they're probably the thing I'm most excited for (and by excited, I mean "Well, that's kinda neat"). I wonder if they'll get their own skill tree, or if they'll just share the marksmanship one.

I'm guessing that you get to pick which side you ally with, which means that vampire or not you'd only be seeing one side of things. I haven't typically been interested in vampirism or lycanthropy, but this expac does make it much more interesting in general.

But by the time it releases on the PS3, I almost certainly won't care anymore. Stupid console favoritism. There's still so much I haven't seen in the core game that it barely even matters, to tell the truth.

Aye, that's what I meant. As in, I won't be rolling another character to play through things from the vampire side, so that content is null and void for me either way.

Is there a demo or something of this game? I know it's excellent etc - but oblivion gave me headaches/motion sickness (no idea why) so I've hesitated picking up skyrim, cause I am worried it will do the same thing.

No demo that I know of. I'm sure there's a bajillion Youtube videos of the game in play so you can set it full screen and judge for yourself.

I think I can kinda understand why--the first person open world nature is a little intense. If that's the issue, then Skyrim might, yeah.

Yeah, I don't know if that would work, unfortunately, videos of oblivion don't do the same thing as playing it (partially cause it usually doesn't show up for about 30 mins or so of playing) - I think there is just something about the way they do motion that makes me feel ill, which is too bad. I LOVED oblivion so much I'd try to play anyway but it just got too icky.

You can play in third person if you prefer, that should help with the motion issues.

So, I started playing again, from the start. I can't help but fall into familiar patterns, though. I've always liked sword and board, and while I do try to force myself to play differently, I do always end up playing the same way. Smiley: lol

Anyway, I haven't looked into mods for Skyrim, but I'm curious if any of you know of a mod to increase the power of conjured weapons, at least to be in line with what you can get through normal weapons. I really like the idea of a magic-based melee, but conjured weapons aren't very strong once you get mid-game, compared to what you can do through smithing and enchanting.

I'll probably still end up maxing sneak/archery/one-handed weapons again.

So, Dragonborn just came out for the PC. I was a little miffed at the price, but the amount of content, Morrowind!, seems to be worth it so far.

Been awhile since I played, so I think I spent more time surfing for new mods than I did downloading & installing the expansion, heh.

I'm building a new rig this week. I might have to pick up the X pack just to test how much I can push it.

I bought the vampire pack on release and I felt it wasn't worth the money. Since they owe me I'm going to wait for it to go on sale.
