Lowbie - ZOMG - kill it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Follow

#27REDACTED, Posted: Nov 11 2010 at 8:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Gotta say that I'm loving AV as an Ally - the place is definitely set up to their advantage - no bumps, valleys, logs or anything else to slow them down on the ride in, easy as pie to retake the bunkers due to there being so much room to work with and just as easy to defend a tower due to the way they're set up - no wonder they win so often when they don't focus on fighting in the middle.
#28REDACTED, Posted: Nov 15 2010 at 10:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Looks like the thread about PvP folks ganking lowbies got ganked - how deliciously ironic!

Am I the only one that, when glancing at the title, keeps thinking that it says "ZOMBIE - kill it"?

Well the zombie apocalypse will inevitably happen after all, so I'm sure those threads will pop up eventually Smiley: grin

On topic, the only "fix" I can think of for pvp servers and low lvl ganking, is to just place a limit on how far someones lvl can be under yours to be able to attack them (unless they attack you, of course). That way it would still have that world pvp feel when you're out questing and come across people of the opposing faction doing the same, but without worry of a high lvl coming along and 1shotting you for 100x your max health Smiley: lol

I liked the scourge invasion better than the current elemental one. People just ignore the elementals, I could force people into pre-xpac fun with the scourge invasion. It's sad when both home cities fail to defend between apathy and bugs.

Was happily playing with a large group of mobs when an even level shadow priest decided that five on one was just his speed and joined the fun. This was obviously the first time this guy had ever played a SP as despite the fact that he had me at half health and with four mobs beating on me he only just barely managed to win (ironically enough he got his "first HK" achievement off of the incident - not exactly an honorable kill IMO).

Was it an even-level kill? Was it your fault for being in a pack of four mobs?

Answer is yes to both.

You strike me as the kind of PvPer that thinks they're good but make up excuses for why they lost rather than, "gg, I missed a [ability], nice fight".

Can't tell you how kids like you make me laugh. When someone beats me in a duel (happens frequently with some of the PvPers I hang out with), I let them know it was a good duel. Nobody beats me in world PvP without a group (I'm a rogue, vanish and run away is always a last resort), but could I communicate, I'd tell them it was a good fight too.

You're the kind of person that whines "OMG BLIND IS CHEAP!!!1!" or "OMG IM LAGGING SO BAD" or "omg rogues are op" etc, aren't you?

Figures.

This isn't necessarily a rant aimed at you personally, Rusttle; I dislike anyone that gets mad when they lose and don't look at themselves first. I've had people in arena blame me when they were keyboard turning, I've had people in BGs yelling at me because I "stole their kill" when I was trying to help them. It's pretty immature to act like getting beat in PvP is a big deal, even Neilyo, Akrios, Unmercy, and the rest of the top PvPers in the world get beat.

It's the nature of the game to lose sometimes. Whine about it less.

But was it honorable - no.

Then you've obviously not read any of my discussions of PvP then - I suck at it - plane and simple. I have gotten somewhat better over the years so while I wont put myself in the bottom 20% anymore I wouldn't put myself at the tail end of the top 50% either.

Seeing as how you're what the PvP server folks call the "care bear server" type I don't see you as really being qualified to talk here.

Remember kid, this isn't a prepared setting where you get the chance to swap mindsets from PvE to PvP and you've got everything ready and set up on a toon built for PvP with all the shiny toys. This is you're minding your own business and someone jumps you. Sure, you know you're in the bad part of town so you can't say you're surprised that it happened, however, it's usually a surprise when it happens.

*yawn* Learn to read Theo - I made it pretty clear that when the odds were even I didn't win because I was some leet PvP geek, I won because the other guy sucked worse then I do. Whether that was due to the lack of knowledge of his class (which you'll note was emphasized) or his lack of experience at PvP (the fact I was his first HK means he's never even taken this toon to a BG) or a combo of the two, I don't know.

You might want to remove the line "You're the kind of person" if you're not aiming it at someone who made it abundantly clear that he wasn't that kind of person then.

So in addition to learning to read please learn to write as well.

No clue what you're talking about with the former, as for the latter well, idiots are idiots.

Here's a quarter, buy a clue Theo.

There's a big difference between the two of us and that's that I'm willing to actually give the PvP server a go.

The twinks claimed that they were only twinking for the thrill of fighting the best of the best and when Blizz gave them their own twink servers they all retired the toons because not being able to gank folks who didn't stand a chance wasn't any fun for them.

So now I've set up on a PvP server to test the claims of those folks that they really are these heroic warriors engaging each other in honorable world combat and not simply a bunch of gankers who'll only jump someone if the person is lower then them, wounded, outnumbered or otherwise at a severe disadvantage.

Put your money were your mouth is boy - you've got just shy of three weeks with nothing to do in game so roll a toon up on a PvP server and do it via world/quest XP like I am and not simply hiding in the instance/BG queue till you ding 80.

Then once you've had that joy tell me that my assessment so far of PvP servers is wrong. ;-P

There is no honour in world PvP, it's kind of the point.

Just because the bulk of PvPers are cowards doesn't mean that you still can't be honorable about the whole thing - you don't have to gank grey players, you don't have to corpse camp people for no reason, you don't even have to only attack people who are wounded/fighting mobs/outnumbered - those are all the acts of losers, not PvPers.

And making a forum post to complain about them is makes you an immature whiner. Serously Rusttle the only thing I have gotten from this thread is you need to grow up and get over yourself. Just because you play on a PvP server now and "don't gank people" and only "fight honorably" doesn't make you as hardcore as you think you are.

It's just a name. As you acknowledged, you can get HKs by 'dishonourable' means. It's just a handy name for a mechnaic designed to remove any incentive, save enjoyment, from camping low level characters.

The point is a sense of constant danger and war. You don't get this if you never attack people in any situation apart from that of utter preparedness. You are not meant to be prepared; it is supposed to be spontaneous. I shouldn't have to point out the idiot strawman ("only attack") or the other idiot fallacy (engaging in asymmetric combat makes you bad how, exactly?), but maybe this has been enlightening for you.

You clearly don't get it - that's fine. Just stop crying about it and we're cool.

I've played on PvP servers. What I found was generally 98% of the players were completely terrible (worse than on my PvE server), and I would own the **** out of them.

I roll in PvP gear/spec anyway. Why would you be grinding/PvEing with a group/raid spec on a server where PvP is possible at any time?

rusttle wrote:

I played on a PvP server for well over a year on an alt, as well as 2-3 months with my main (Arthas US, in case you care).

See Rusttle? You just made an *** out of yourself by assuming that I hadn't played on a PvP server. I moved back because the friend that I moved to PvP with quit the game.

I can handle PvP servers. I'm actually a good PvPer, so world PvP doesn't bother me. Getting one-shotted by max-level players sucks pretty hard, but I don't lose to even-level players in world PvP.

The constant fear of being mercilessly faceraped by a random high level is the charm of being on a PvP server. It separates the sheep from the sheeple. You either get paranoid and aneurysms, or you get better.

Been on PvP servers since Vanilla, but I've also played a little on PvE servers. The first time I saw a "yellow" dancing inside the enemy village, I decided that it wasn't what I was looking for.

Red means dead.

That's the way I see it as well. I couldn't imagine being on a PVE server and having the enemy stand right next to me, taunting me and being able to do nothing about it. Is it safer? Of course it is. But is it more fun? Well... Yeah I'd imagine it's that too when you're not able to get ganked. But that's not the point! It just doesn't feel right.

I don't get the point of going out an killing low lvls for fun though. I guess just to be a **** and make them hate life? I'll admit, I've killed my fair share of low lvls too, but it's usually just a side effect of them getting in the way while plowing Tarren Mill or some such place into the ground to draw the attention of bigger fish in the area Smiley: laugh

*Disclaimer: No fish nor bigger fishes were harmed in the plowing into the ground of Tarren Mill or some such places*

I am new to all this, but isn't there rules to this? It is not considered a bannable offense to ruin someones enjoyment of the game?

Personally once I am high level I will not kill a lowbie, it should make you feel embarresed. It would equivalent of me in real life to pick a fight with someone in grade 1. You should be ashamed.

I would have hoped there would be some form of pvp etiquette, but I guess not. Last night I was in an area where a group of 80's went around killing all the people questiong, all the npcs so people couldn't do quests etc, it was kind of pathetic of them. I guess blizzard never thought of putting in some type of measure that you can't attack someone x amount of levels below you unless flagged?

PvP servers sound like fun, thats why I moved to one with my friend on it, but seems a bit of a mess until you get to 80.

Basically the only rule on PvP servers is if you're getting camped, quit your ******** and log onto your 80 and deal with the person camping you.

Not everyone does have an 80? I loathe leveling characters (and playing characters other than my rogue) and I have two, and multiple characters in the 60s and 70s.

Outside of your asinine assumption that I was saying having an 80 is your only recourse, you can log out and either play another toon, ask for help from your guild, or log out completely and do something else.

I hate leveling and I've got 6 ******* 80's...
On PvP servers you either find a PvP solution or you're **** out of luck and *GASP* you might have to go do somtheing else for 15 minutes.

Oh yeah, and you know how often I've been ganked by higher levels while leveling 3 characters from 1 to 80, a DK to 73, my shaman from 75-80, a warrior from 1-62 and some other random characters on a PvP server?
Less than 20 times for sure, it might even be countable on both hands. That probably cost me less time in corpseruns than Rusttle spent whining and moaning about it in this thread alone.

So in short: get over yourself you ****.

On PvP servers, the only thing you're not allowed to do is consistently camp quest NPCs as this is considered griefing.

Everything else PvP related, the solution is to "call your allies and deal with it through PvP".
