Confused, plz expalin continual downloading?Follow

If I'm remembering right, you're on Extended? If so you're using the streaming client. My understanding:

If there's an required update you'll download that before you are able to play.
If you log on to the launcher and just let it sit there it's downloading.
If you log on to the launcher and go into the game it will download what you need when you need it, like when you're zoning into a new zone for the first time.

You do have to have a Station ID (login) before you can download anything, but you don't have to subscribe. You won't download content you don't have privileges for (like if you haven't bought Sentinel's Fate).

Yes, its still downloading in the background. That number will go down if you left it sit there, and eventually download the full game that you have access to.

Yeah, the fact that it says "Upgrade Now" sort of makes me think it's the EQ2X patcher.

Speaking of, I was all set to give f2p EQII a shot the other day but I can only choose from four different races and eight classes. Well that sucks, so I uninstalled. I really think they would have been wise to at least toss me a bone for having played in the past. I mean hell, my account is five years old, even if it hasn't been active for a little over a year now. At least give me the "Silver" status for free.

I dunno, just seems like compared to the other f2p titles I've spent time on (LotRO and DDO) EQ2X is an inferior deal. However, I'm still checking in on this board every other day, so maybe a part of me still wants to play. Or, maybe, a part of me just likes being abused by SOE.

Now that I've done some impotent rambling, I has a question, too: Does one accumulate station points (or whatever the micro-transaction currency is) while playing? I just haven't been able to find a very comprehensive guide on how exactly they're running the model.

Okay, I found out that the download only works if you have that client page open. It will not download if you are playing the game, in char creation, or logged out. You have to log in to client and just leave it sit there with that big green PLAY button. Do nothing else.

Station Launcher ftw imo. ;) That does look like the X launchpad though, but maybe eq2's normal streaming client looks like that now?

In theory there's some "free offers" to earn SC through Pox Nora or some such.. some people were talking about it on the X forums. Some have gotten SC in the thousands, others have gotten nothing out of it. *shrug* I haven't bothered trying, it all sounds like too much hassle.
