Weekly Goals and Accomplishments - 10/30 - 11/5Follow

#1 Oct 30 2015 at 10:25 AM Rating: Good
Hopefully Valk sees this thread and we don't end up with a dupe!

What are your plans for Halloween weekend?

- Get Magical Grandmother through the 15 MSQ and unlock airships so she can do the Halloween event. If it's locked to the 30 then *sigh* grind her to 30. Getting to 15 happened in 4 hours but it slows down tremendously after that, even when you know what you're doing.

- Get another crafting class to 60. Probably leatherworker. It happens when it happens, but getting one more there would be nice.

- MCH to 55 for reals this time. I got to 54 last week but because of Grandma, I didn't get the final planned level last night.

Going to be another week of very busy non-Eorzea activities: the band has another show coming up next Friday, and with rehearsals and networking to boost attendance it's going to be hard to find time to log on. So some modest plans:

Verdha: clear Fractal Continuum, finish off all the Law gear she wants. Keep fishing.

Waenlona: keep pushing on MSQ and other quests, try to start at least one night after retainer check/gearing up with more than 4 digits of gil for once. Fish some more. Maybe grind some of the low level crafts to 15. Drink more goblin rum.

Well Tesee is out of town for several weeks helping family out .
I am just leveling crafting and working on getting scripts, I think I am over 2000 blue in reserve plus have several books and the body piece.
Might try for some red scripts.
Get Botany to 60.

Finish up AC: Syndicate, get ready for Fallout 4, wonder why I bothered to pay for my sub this month...

Turns out it's level 20 to unlock the event, so Grandma got that far. I also went and did the event on my other three alts, so now Katarh, Taprara, Anzu, Body Count, and Grandma are all sporting the halloween gear and have a flying broom.

Taking a break from Grandma and the other alts to go back to Katarh now. One job wonders are fun, especially redoing the MSQ and actually paying attention like I am with Body Count, but I've spread myself so thin with them that it's not something I want to spend all my free time doing by any stretch.

Did the Halloween event, too... was very fun! Loved the quick story line, and the rewards are wicked. We've sure come a long ways from "ring this bell." Smiley: lol

Also FATE'd my bard up from 52 to 53 in North Thanalan while watching Guardians of the Galaxy. Plan to get into 54 today while watching the Seahawks.

Didn't get a chance to run expert yesterday, but I'll do that today and maybe a couple rounds of PvP.

Meanwhile, in Vana'diel..

I've spent my first couple days back in XI just getting my feet under me. Spent awhile visiting different cities and shouting for a linkshell, but to no avail. It's sad seeing Vana'diel so empty -- I have so many memories of people bustling around, or hanging out in-game with my old ls mates -- and now, nothing. I did an all-areas search, and there were like 550 people logged into the game, which is still substantial given the game's situation. I'm very curious to see whether SE does server merges in the months following this final content update -- there are enough people out there to keep this game lively, but worlds definitely need to be condensed. I also think the game is now "classic" enough where it has more replay value for people like me, who previously played it from a more "hardcore, focus on one character" standpoint. Anyway, enough rambling.

Thankfully I've had lots of guidance from Fynlar, who is on my server. Also, one of my old ls mates did return to the game a month ago, and he started sending me messages as soon as I logged into PlayOnline to install the client. :) So with Kaer, Fyn and myself, at least we've got a good core to try to beat the last of the storyline content, which is my main reason for coming back.

Started the new "Records of Eminence" quest and basically got a free set of i117 gear... although I'm a career rdm, I decided to gear up my blm first... now will work on weapons and gear for rdm. Also did the first several Rhapsodies missions (cool storyline so far). And plugged in gear sets, then redid all my BLM macros. Oh, and also had to dig out my old PC gamepad; I was a PS2 player during my FFXI peak, and I never learned to play with a mouse and keyboard.

Perhaps the strangest thing I did in XI was sell off some blm gear I'll never need again. Goodbye, Igqira Weskit... we had a great run.

I dinged 60 CRP a few days ago. BSM, ARM, CUL, and FSH left for sub-60 crafting and gathering.

Picked up BLM esoteric weapon, body, and legs over the last few weeks.

This patch seriously can't come soon enough at this point. If I weren't obsessively capping esoterics and doing GC hand-ins every week, I'd have unsubscribed.

The strangest thing to me about 99 BLM was there being pretty much two spells you're going to use now: It's either Stone I or Blizzard V. There is no in between. Stone I when hate is an issue and you just want steady damage for basically free; Blizzard V where it needs to die ASAP and controlling hate is the least of your worries.

The Igqira set was always so cool. We need it in XIV.

The mighty Hecatomb Harness/Wyvern Helm combo was probably my favorite in XI though. RIP to my Taru DRG.

Thank you!

I'm so clueless about how to play now it's not even funny. I can't remember any of the elemental weaknesses, and my muscle memory regarding my macro usage is pretty much gone. I don't even know all the JAs now.

I used to pride myself on being able to fly through my menus, type commands and use my no-swap macro set to manage entire fights on rdm without any downtime. Ah, those were the days...

I believe the elemental wheel is: fire > ice > wind > earth > lightning > water > fire and then light and dark are strong against each other.

I was a BLM for 3 years before prying myself out of it... I cannot unlearn this stuff.

But don't ask me to get dressed in that game. Some things are a bridge too far.

I tried to pick the game back up after several years of not playing it.

I couldn't remember how to dress myself.

It wasn't pretty.

The gear sets are awesome, and SOOOOOOOOOOO long overdo.

Seriously, where was that feature like eight years ago, when so many people actually played the game?

On my red mage macro palette, I actually had two or three base macros to accompany spell macros just to handle all the gear swapping that needed to take place for each type of spell. It was insane. With the gear sets, that frees up three spots that could have held valuable spells/abilities.

Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, because I had my ability/spell usage down to a science when I played... but the gear sets definitely would have just made things simpler. No need to have to redo ALL macros just because you upgrade one piece of gear.

Note... I do not miss gear swapping... not one bit.

This is perhaps what I love most about FFXIV. When I realized this, I literally screamed with delight. in FFXI I hated having to carry stupid amounts of special-case gear and maintain the XML for all the abilities.

What I hate most about FFXIV is the scripted fights. I loved that in FFXI you never knew which move the boss would use next, and had to be ready for anything and react and adapt -- and sometimes the boss would throw something at you that you just couldn't beat. Nothing was ever certain. Memorization is insanely hard for me in general -- in life as in game -- and I hate that there are moments when you can't get by in a scripted fight just by being really really really good at adaptive fighting.

I got heavily into Spellcast and then Gearswap to manage gear sets before they added in the gear set feature.

I also really got annoyed that every time I got a new piece of gear I'd have to spend 10 minutes editing an XML or LUA file.

I played during one of the free weekends a while back and could not remember how to navigate the menu's.
How can you play a game that long and forget that stuff after a few years, actually not even that long.
