Now Ive been told if youre a brd nin or mch (any job who uses dex as damage modifiers), you can have all the dex in the world but your damage well mean crap without a good weapon too, so if youre in lets say full il200 gear wearing a level 20 bow youre damage as gonna be no better than if you were wearing il90 gear using an lvl 20 or il90 bow.

So my question is this. if youre in lets say all il170 gear using a zeta bow (il135) and doing crit weapon skills that are already doing 1.5k+ consistently, if you upgrade to the lets say il160 bow that drops in fractal, which has a whole 3 more base damage (i would expect a much higher boost from il135 to il160 especially considering one is level 50 while the other is level 60) and a lower crit hit rate (but higher dex and det) is that really gonna make the difference between the damage youre doing now to maybe youre crit weaponskills doing 2k+ consistently and your normal attacks critting for 1k more often while non crits are 800-900?

the last three times I ran fractal Ive had 3 different ppl complain about me still using zeta (it ironic ppl join duty finder and get shocked if the group of randoms they get matched with arent up to their standards... if I want ppl i know are gonna be up to par I dont use DF i go with friends or FC duh lol), one healer even left right after a tank pulled a boss because it was "slow", now I do intend to upgrade but that would require farming enough tomes to do so or finally getting a drop, which I finally just did and after looking at the stats. I dont see em as THAT much better, if the dps is already slow/sucks I doubt that weapon now is gonna change the tides so dramatically that a dungeon that we were already doing beforehand in 20-25 mins is now gonna drop to 15-20min consistently, right?

The single biggest contributor to damage output is weapon damage, which is purely a function of item level. I know bows kind of get the ***** on weapon damage for some reason, they have since 2.0 and I'm still not sure why, but that's the rule.

Weapon damage is the king of all cosmos when it comes to output.
Followed by your primary stat, STR, DEX, INT, or MND
Followed by crit for most jobs, and then some balance of det and spell speed for casters or just det for melee

Individual crit size is less important than dps, but to know how much you'd need a parser or someone parsing for you.

Well yeah i know weapon damage is biggest damage contributer but the question is is 3-5 more base damage reallt gonna make an earth shattering difference?

Earth-shattering? Probably not. But it'll be a difference.

In general (this may be different for bows specifically):
1 point of weapon damage ~= 8x a primary stat point
1 primary stat point ~= 4.5x your best secondary stat, which for virtually everyone right now is crit

So 3 more weapon damage would be equivalent to ~24 more DEX. Would you switch weapons for 24 more DEX?

Yes in that case i would, but in the same note i would also consider 24 more dec earth shattering. Considering armore thats 10 ils higher then your previous is only givin you about 3 more dex, so 24 dex is practically a new whole full armor set, and im quite sure a new set of armor would make such a difference that i wouldnt need a parser to see it. Hence "earth shattering" we'll see if thats the case tonight when im off work

I use my Zeta weapon all the time as MNK, what's wrong with that?

Zeta weapons were still pretty much best in slot until the level 59 Library weapons finally outclassed them.

Crit actually is almost more important than DEX for a bard, honestly. More DoT crits = more off global cooldown procs = more damage output, period. At 50 cap, there was a reason that a penta-melded HQ Kirimu Coat was best in slot for bard - and that's because you could stuff in a ton of extra crit in your build by doing it that way.

I have 984 DEX on my ilvl 193 bard and only 632 crit hit rate. 24 DEX won't make a lick of difference, really. Given the choice between losing 50 DEX and adding 50 crit, I'd totally pick the latter. That's also why the esoterics set isn't necessarily best in slot without the Savage 210 upgrades.

The damage on the 200 esoterics bow is only 67. Alas.
