Any authors on this subject? I see many well planned and finely laid out guides to mastery for various other crafts, but all I see are spellcraft calculators out there. Has anyone written a clear guide on:
1)what items are the most cost effective to skill up on
2)most effiecient Items to be working on at what trivials? This can include the amount of subcombines necessary, or the least items necessary to have on hand
3)Perhaps a personal account of their own path to Spellcrafting mastery.
This information would be valuable indeed, as well as helpful to the many fledgling crafters who made the choice I have. Any ideas Folks?

Spellcrafting is pretty straightforward. From skill 0-99 you use Um gems; from skill 100-199 you use Lo gems; etc. You will also use 2 other components in certain proportions. I don't have a high level spellcrafter, but I don't think there are sub-combines. It's a one-shot deal.

Crafting in DAOC is a losing proposition in that your finished products don't sell to vendors at a profit. The only way to profit is by selling your services to another player. As a novice, that won't be easy to do because most beginning players are as poor as you are.

There are 2 basic schools of thought on "skilling up" in any craft. (1) If you make only orange items, you will fail more (and maybe lose a component or two) but most successes will give you a skill increase (especially at lower levels) and (2) If you make only yellow items, you will succeed more (and therefore be able to get something back for your efforts) but you won't get a skill increase for every success.

You have chosen one of the most difficult and expensive crafts in the game. Don't get discouraged, but don't expect to become a Legendary Spellcrafter for a very long time.
