Few questions about EQ from an OLD playerFollow

Greetings. I had a level 50 Wizard waaaaaaay back when 50 was the cap, Lower Guk was the "hotspot" and casters thought SMR's, Shimmering Orbs and Staffs on Writ were the uberest items.

Once I get out of the Gulf, I was thinking about playing EQ again. Instead of a Wizard, I am thinking of playing a Dark Elf Warrior. My question is; For the Warrior class does the starting attributes effect their overall effectiveness later in the game? With buffs that look to me like Godpowers...is that str/con gap between a Ogre and Dark Elf going to matter in the least?
