The future of EQ 1.0?Follow

#1 Jan 07 2004 at 12:13 AM Rating: Default
I'm debating getting back into EQ, with my wife as well.

However, we're concerned about the possibility of investing time and effort into levelling up characters only to have the game die off as a result of the release of EQ 2.0. (Hence the title.)

Yes; I know Verant/Sony plan to run both games simultaneously. But if 75% of players immediately defect to EQ2, the fun of EQ1 will be irreperably harmed. So my questions are:

1. What's the general consensus among all the players you know about their plans for EQ2?

2. When, really, is EQ2 coming out? Late 2004? Mid 2004? Really 2005?

Thanks for answering.

I for one have no intention of going to EQ II, if that helps any. :)

I believe most players do not plan on playing EQ2. After all why start EQ all over and lose all of the time you spent building your toon up in the original? My gut feeling is EQ will not suffer much from the release of EQ2.

I suspect that many people will try out EQ 2, and probably half of them will come back. If Sony does as good a job with EQ 2 as they did with SWG then EVERYBODY will come back.

You may also want to note that Sony has offered an "all games" type of pass for EQ that I BELIEVE (please correct me if wrong) will allow you to play both EQ and EQ 2. This is Sony's way of getting their playerbase (many of whom have spent 4 years leveling their favorite toons) into their new game. However, I doubt the exodus to EQ 2 will occur unless they can offer us a lot more for the cost than new graphics and a modified timeline/storyline based in the same game world we all know now.
