BOYCOT THE BAZZARFollow

#1 Jan 05 2004 at 1:36 AM Rating: Sub-Default
OK. this mess age is about boycotting the bazzar. If your a newbie who has little plat or a more exp. player looking for good deals on rare items YOU WILL NEVER FIND prices that are good. after this sudden spurt in the quest for money prices have gone up BY ALOT! a lammy used to sell for 400-700 plat prices have almost doubled from the old max price. 1.4K fo a lammy is insane. SO PLEASE SPREAD MY WORD ABOUT BOYCOTTING THE BAZZAR!!!!!!!!!

I will not avoid bazaar, thank you. The bazaar is the best improvement EQ ever made, with a close follow of the shared bank slots. My toons have a nice (not huge) amount of plat.

My first toon, alway broke, a mage, shopped in THE TUNNEL, had gear that was better for another class, and lousy weapons, because unless you spent "forever" shopping you were lucky to find an item, and it you did, somebody with more money would bid higher.

I had to look through bags and bags (and don't forget right click EACH piece you looked at to see if your class could use it) of items and not find any mage gear, or none I could afford. And ask the price each time, every item. And no competition, because seldom were two people selling and advertising the same item. No going AFK for seller to eat dinner or go to sleep while merchandise still sold.

No one forces you to use the Bazaar. I don't have a doubt that most items in the game can be obtained in places other than the Bazaar, but are most players willing to go to the trouble(myself included)? No. The Bazaar provides a much more efficient means of getting what you want, when you want it. The days of EC auctioning were fun, but they're over now, after being replaced by something better.

As far as new players being too broke to afford items in the Bazaar, you aren't supposed to start off being able to buy a lamentation. Level up and earn the items for sale, don't expect the majority of the playerbase to leave something good so you can get cheaper prices.

How much does a premium membership here cost.. I think it is $10.00 for 3 months isn't it? Thats $3.33/month, you would have to be a Millionaire to come up with that kind of money.

And to break the cost down even further - it comes to about 11 cents a day. Lets see, that about 1/3 the cost of a coke. And if you smoke or drink bottled water - you spend many times more than that per day on those items individually. Then there is the cost of the game itself - which when you figure in the cost of the computer, the game fees, and the software is much more than the pittance that Alla charges for this site. (please dont raise it tho, Alla).

Be honest and just say you like the site but don't want to contribute to the upkeep of it - it is by far the best source of info and referrals for EQ, and perhaps for the other games. I don't know about them as I only olay EQ - too old to keep track of more than one of these games.

I won't boycott the bazaar, but instead simply refuse to pay outrageous prices. I'll do without rather than waste plat.

It's not like I'm in a race to get anywhere...

(obviously... I'm STILL in my teens although everyone is 19 and three are just a couple kills away from 20 - I want to turn all 4 characters 20 on the same day. Why? Minor sense of accomplishment)

Low-end items are still very cheap in bazaar. I have outfitted my toons with their earnings from the stacks of pelts, spider silks, and bone chips they got before level 10, cheap, low end items. Of course (insert your whine here) you won't get high end items. Do you really expect to have the same gear as someone who has been playing for years, when you just started!?!

I have not bought a single plat, so am proud of what I do have, and had fun too. I like to shop for bargains in bazaar. I agree with Mikeinsb to not buy if item is overpriced. But some higher prices are here to stay, with people buying plat.

I have been given, and now give donations to noobs, unless they are shouting and spamming their begs. (It is SO fun to hand a level 9 shammy doing their first sows for donations a 100pp, and so on.)

Since the "bazaar" is not earning any money, who gets hurt by a boycott? Punish yourself to spite someone else, good plan.

How do you register a free account? Really easy to find if you look on the menu bar. Please register so we can rate you down and never see you again.

I would have a membership if my mom and dad were willing to pay for it. Though a guild member lets me use his membership for Seachs and all. I rather not use it unless i need to search.

Just to add on about free registration without being Anon, I registered this morning *for* free and am not Anon and never will be if i can help it.

Click on Login/Admin... on the left hand panel and choose your name,... the only way you can be *set* to anon is if you choose in your options to be seen as Anon, you should not begin this way.

If you think you were set to anon automatically, it doesn't matter if i'm right or not, you can go to Your Account on the left panel under Login/Admin... and choose not to post anonymously.

Don't fear lack of control or other people's opinions... cherish them for that is what makes us grow and what makes life fun. I learn more from my mistakes and from listening wisely than from the many times i felt that i knew everything perfectly fine myself.

Back to the original thread, I prefer the bazaar as it is, because there are not as many people running through zones hawking their wares and lagging my computer. Plus I have made fair amounts of pp buying and reselling items in the bazaar. A guildy of mine sold a sword of the bloodsworn for 15k and bought one the next day for 8k, not a bad profit, imo.

I have to join with the majority opinion on this subject. I too use the bazaar regularly and will continue to do so. Prices often do get ridiculously high there, (5+pp for a spiderling silk, 8-15pp for a spider silk for example), but you don't have to buy the stuff. I don't, not at those prices, and I have, by being careful, patient, and taking my time, found some very nice deals on some usually high end stuff. I also buy low and sell high there when the opportunity presents itself. I'm not rich, but I have managed to aquire some decent enough gear and still maintain a few K of plat in the bank. Keep the baz, learn to work it, and quit yer sniv'ling.

Of course, your biggest problem is that you're not shopping around. If all you do is try to buy the most popular or well-known item, then of course you're going to pay for it. Mostly because every other half-wit on the server is competing with you for the same overpriced item.

The bazaar has done amazing things for lowering prices and making items that would otherwise never get sold worth selling. Your idea that "you will nevver dind prices that are good" is so flawed it's not even funny. Let's see. Last night I bought a planar lance of thunder (or something like that). A 30/32 weapon for... Not 5k. Not 2k. Not even 1k. 150pp.

When the bazaar first came out, I equipped my wizard with gear that increased his AC by something like 100 points, his HPs by around 200, and his int by over 50. All for something like 600pp.

If you're willing to actually look at the slots you need to upgrade, and then actually take the time to plug in the criteria you want into your search, and then actually look at all the selections available, you can find some amazingly good deals.

The problem is you get people who hear "A lammy is the best weapon for classX at level Y", so they go and look at just that weapon and dispair that the prices are so high. Meanwhile, if that same person had simply punched in 1hs and his class/race, he could have found a half dozen weapons of similar quality to a lammy for 1/3rd the price.

The bazaar allows for bargain shopping in a way the old trade system never did. People expect to make some return for their time. When you can go into vendor mode overnight, suddenly it's worth putting a bag full of 50-100pp items for sale simply because that's more then you'd get selling to a vendor and it doesn't cost you anything more to offer them for sale. Back in the day, folks would just vendor "junk" because it took more time to sell it then it was worth.

And as they say: One mans trash is another mans treasure. Stuff that I may consider junk is probably a very nice upgrade for most folks under the level of 50. You'll find a hell of a lot of it in the bazaar if you just take the time to look.

come on your an idiot if you want to boycot it. It's really helpful especially to the newbies, you dont need a bunch of plat if you want to shop there! You can get base weaps and armor for way less than merchant prices.

DONT BOYCOT this guy is obviously a n00b who blew all his plat on some item he cant even use
