Historical Information

In medieval legend, the Bonnacon was a giant bison-like creature with curled horns that served no purpose for the sake of fighting. However, it was capable of expelling noxious vapors from its behind, as well as being able to expel a stream of dung a great distance. The vapors were able to cover a few acres and, like the dung, scorched anything that came in contact with them.

...with gear listed in profile, level 70 Soothing Healer NPC buddy and 240TP built up before engaging and all timers at 0:00. Food used was a Couerl Sub. Was farming for hides for about an hour and fifteen minutes before he popped, with no competing farmers - or anyone else in the zone, for that matter.

The fight was a bit scary in the beginning with Third Eye dropping after the first anticipation (>.>) and the NM scoring two consecutive crits with added effect: stun. After Stun wore, I Blade Bashed (to get TE back up without issue), used Sekkanoki, and used Yuki-> Gekko (Frag)-> 2-hour-> Kasha (Light) -> Yuki -> Gekko -> Kasha and the fight was over. Didn't drop into the yellow, although my NPC did use a Cure III on me at the beginning.

*shrug* sure, I two-houred (with 5/5 Overwhelm) but I was expecting a bit more out of the NM with /thf. Drops were Buffalo Hide and Meat (last quarter moon), woo for TH1!

Fought this douche last night because Tred Scythe refuses to show up on our AH...

Killed all the Buffalo's for about an hour or two and the NM popped right near the top of the ramp. Pulled him away from his friends and proceeded to stab him in the face for about 10min. He has terrible acc so my alt character's poorly equiped THF/NIN had little issues. He did have the occasional moment where he would get my shadows down and hit for a solid 120 damage but i got shadows back up easily and cured myself with bloody bolts and the milk that dropped from the PH's. Easy to evasion tank just takes awhile to kill him with pretty sub-par gear. No drop though ;_;

I believe it's a lottery pop with one placeholder Buffalo on a 1 hour timer. The Buffalo should be one of the Buffalo in the central area near the ramp. I think it has only one PH, but I've never gone there with WS, so I can't really specify. Anyway, in my experience, it has always appeared in the central area near the ramp; never at the farthest areas the other Buffalo can pop.

EDIT: Lottery means it has a chance to pop in place of it's Placeholder every time it's PH spawns. The 1 hour timer means it won't pop until at least 1 hour after the last time it died. I don't know what timer the regular Buffalo are on, but I think it's 5 minutes. I haven't really been checking that closely, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was 15 minutes. Usually those pop times are in dungeons, though.

This Nm has a real ****** drop rate and realy shouldnt be taken lightly.
I decided to farm buffalo meat one day and ran into him as DRK/THF.
lucky to say i beat him with barly 100+ hp left.
It wasnt easy and i ran 2 the tunnels down the ramp to fight him.
the reason being, to aspir worms from a far range and running from their casting.
Dread spikes is a real savior here and i had to Blood weapon alittle less than half way thru the fight.
Stun~ Flee, aspir +Dark seal- worm run back watching carefully for stupid tigers...
If anyone wants to solo this thing come prepared his Add effect stuff can be a pain in the ***, but as for two handed weapons. Platinum Grip can give u the same edge.
O yea and he has ****** accuracy too lol. Absorb Vit, Agl /thf and abyss body so i dint suffer -10 evasion from hauby.
I switched to Abyss body for the fight and used hauberk wile dread spikes was up with last resort, absorb -Str, to dish out good damage wile he hit/healed me at his best.
If i ever take him again, im going as /sam with my npc healer and really kick his ***.
all that and just one lousy buffalo hide...
(/hurray leather crafters)
I hate you Bonnacon...

Ok...So I fought this bad boy as 75DRG/RDM for kicks got owned. Needs to be blink tanked. Then I came back as 75DRK/NIN to take him on. He pops, call out my NPC and take him on. Stuff goes bad he paras me and NPC is retarded and cant cure/paralyna me. So things go wrong I get this bad boy to 50% HP and he owns me. No, this a'int happening. I RR heal up, get ready and fight him again. Spamming Dread Spikes, Drains, Utsu and all. He gets to about 10% and I've got around 60MP left. Aspir, Drain, And 2hr. Get him to around 1%HP...I'm at 150HP Mind you...Run out of Utsu tools ; ; The goddess was on my side and I used toolbag, spam Ni and its back up intime. Slam into him w/ one last Rampage and BAM! 50XP No drop :/ Hope you all have better luck.

Edit:

Oh yeah...Survived w/ 8HP 9MP ; ;

I got a newbie question. You can slap me later. How would you kill this notorious monster as a level 75 summoner? Which Blood Pact(s) would you use?

Just Carby it to death. Summon>>Attack, then run far enough away to where you can't see Carby's life anymore, wait for him to die, then resummon. Once you get good at dodging aggro (Unless someone else is up there clearing aggro stuff for you), then you can mix it up with Carby and other avatars. Yag juice is needed if your going to solo and try to use other avatars. Be warned, Carby does not hold hate well with Con, so if you pull aggro, your only hope is that you won't die and Carby can get hate back.

Soloed as 75 Whm/ 37 Sum. Used Leviathan's Water2, till he was gone then resummoned him. Battle took about 10min, and had to heal self abit ( hey for a WHM I get into the mix more than once or twice ). Only dropped ICE Crystal ( hoping for Clogs ). Oh well good luck.

I just claimed for the second time today. The first time..I was all alone and he popped 15 minutes after killing PH's. I got Cure clogs and Buffalo Hide.
Second time...a jp Ninja had shown up and was doing nothing while I was killing the buffalo. Anyway..I go on the south side of the ramp and pulled a buffalo when I see a buffalo spawn on top of the hill. So, I switched targets and target the one that just spawned and you guessed it, it was Bonnacon! So, with the other buffalo on me still, I pulled Bonnacon. Brought him down to the ramp and proceeded to kick his A*S as a THF75/NIN37. Well, I didn't have all my evasion gear on and so my shadows would go down a little quicker than the timer was up..So, all in all, the second time I fought him...sleep bolts, and bloody bolts saved me! I didn't even worry about the other buffalo till I was done with Bonnacon! Just got a piece of buffalo meat the 2nd time! And did take some minor damage due to damn Utsu timers. And I just came here to farm hides!! w00tah!!

Had camped this guy the night before 75 thf/nin and lgged out after claim. I had forgot to bring sleep and had 5 bloody bolts but was able to take him out fairly easily with my npc helper.

Well I log on and am getting ready to leave and i see him right in front of the ramp so knowing i dont have anything more than a few bloody bolts wonder if i should try him. I claim and run down the ramp. Ichi -> Ichi tanking him. And using Ni for emergencys. No joke that's for sure I ended up saving tp for shadowstitch when neither timers were up.

The other campers try to mpk me with snolls after Bocannon got a few lucky hits and I told them i would call a gm. Well the fight like this takes forever and the gm shows while their still doing it. I got a few nasty tells about calling a gm and that i broke some courtesy camping rule and never heard from the guy again.

No drop, but hopefully this guy learned not to mpk people just cause he wasn't paying attention

A friend (75Rdm/15Thf) and I (75Whm/37Nin) took this guy on about a week ago. WE took him down with a bit of trouble. I tanked and he healed me. His additional effect stun sucked. he also seemed to take away my buffs. That really sucked. We had to Sleep2 him twice and rest for MP. He slept eeasy and all I really had to do was SS and Ni. (Ichi wouldn't even get off) But all that fun was in vain, no drop. Nothing. But I got the Screenshot and a cool title (The Hornspiltter).

Finished my map quest and was just exploring, ran into this guy. Trioed with 74whm/nin (me) 75war/nin and 68sam/thf. Not too hard, watch out for stray buffalo aggro and his stun additional effect can be a pain. Got Buffalo Hide and Cure Clogs to drop. 1/1!

Easy solo
# Sep 12 2005 at 9:18 PM Rating: Good
I choose to exp solo off of snolls and buffalo in the area that he spawns. I just dinged 62 bst, but soloed him 3 times during level 61. The fights were long and took a lot of pets, but once i got the hang of it (and people stopped killing my pets) it became pretty easy. I probably got a good 30k exp lvling in this area, also got 3 buffalo hides (worth 110k on my server) and killed this NM 3 times. No scythe or boots drop so far but I'm still there lvling and waiting for him to pop, so hopefully I get drop soon =P. Bst pride!!

in response to vithrulas,
bonnacon is approximately a 2-8 hour spawn, much like megalobugard, but if you're killing buffalos non-stop, pretty much the latest he can pop is 4.5 hours (at least that's what i've seen).

anyway i'm 1/5 on this ****** :P. 1st kill i got a buffalo hide, 2nd kill an ice crystal, nothing on the 3rd and 4th ;; and clogs on the 5th ^_^

never seen the scythe drop @_@ but since it's literally half the price of hides idc about it that much :P

pop times post-update?
# Aug 21 2005 at 12:08 AM Rating: Decent
Just curious, has anyone else had difficulties getting Bonnacon to pop after the recent updates?

Before the updates, he'd usually spawn within a few kills after 2 hours of placeholder cleaning.

But lately, I've been on 3 hour killing sprees and giving up after still no NM spawn.

Granted it's a lottery pop, and maybe it's just really crappy luck on my part. But still, I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems getting him to spawn.

No, it isn't very good in comparison to others. ^^; A scythe one level below it has same delay but higher damage, and also drains HP.

that scythe has a hidden effect of supposedly critical attacks every 13th attack(not counting WS) Tredecim is 13 in latin, i heard. Somone tested it out and found out it is most likely true or just by luck.

From what i remember the couple times i added his total HP's up after battle it came out to around 12K. Possibly a slight range in its lvl. Cure Clogs seem to be about 1/10 drop rate. This monster can be a BLM campers best friend, seeing as his defense is so high and with a moderate amount of hit points, most solo campers tend to avoid him from what I have seen. I am on the siren server and at most there will be 2-3 BLM's up top camping with me. The ramp is a great safe spot to rest MP and sleep will stick everytime on this guy. Make sure to have stoneskin blink and phalanx (if you are /rdm) up seeing as if he gets a couple hits off you can still resleep without casting issues. He tends to hit fairly hard, accurate and fast. When ive entered the battle pre-buffs he gotten me down to almost dead before i could get sleep off. As a Taru at 75 my HP lay around 750. Spawn time is @ 2 hours but ive seen go as long as 5-6H and as little as 1:45H. Hope this info helps.

This was an extremely fun fight. I was browsing alla, bored out of my mind and I read about this guy. I've never been to the Range so it took awhile to find it. When I got to this guys spawn spot he was already up. I had just been aggroed earlier so I was down 200 hp from full. I decided why not fight him as is. Put on my Shinobi Gi and went at him. I really had no idea if I'd win or not I just wanted to fight =p.

He did snort 3 or 4 times and it hit for about 1XX damage. Wasn't to bad when I got him past 50% he started spamming his evasion boot move and at 10% he finally got in a hit that stunned me. It was a really fun fight and I ended with 141 hp lol.

Hide and Meat. @74 I got 61 exp.
