Gamescom 2014: Xbox Main Event

We're kicking off this year's Gamescom with the Xbox Press Conference!

8:51 - Here we go with Fable Legends! They announce a Multiplayer Beta starting October 16th. A new trailer, a new look at gameplay. I'm not sure this will work as well as they plan, but it's interesting.

8:53 - Presenting a new exclusive franchise, coming Spring of 2015 called ScreamRide. Think the sadism of RollerCoaster Tycoon with Fortnite graphics. Torture people with carnival rides, where your success is measured in screams. "Make all your screams come true."

8:57 - Forza Horizon 2 time! Heavy on details, but nothing stands out. A trailer begins, a dev diary, talking about how social. Social, social, social. Looks like that's the direction of racing games, a la The Crew and more. Literally everything they're talking about refers to the social aspects. Oh, also: new cars for Forza Motorsport 5, free for all players.

9:02 - Harrison now mentions Forza Fuel, a seemingly-mysterious unlockable resource. Huh.

9:04 - Now we have Ori and the Blind Forest, the beautiful platformer we first saw at E3. The gameplay demo is underway, and it looks like it may have nice mechanics. It's tough to understand how the player is doing what they're doing. It's not a long look at the game, but it's everything it needed to be. "Only on Xbox and PC."

9:07 - Ted Price, President and CEO of Insomniac Games, takes the stage. He's here for Sunset Overdrive. New trailer, shows the game's backstory. Same over-the-top humor we've seen from the last trailer. Whenever I see Sunset Overdrive, I think "Particle Effects: The Game".

9:11 - Price announces a new bundle! Special edition Sunset Overdrive bundle. White Xbox One console and controller, Sunset Overdrve (as a digital download), and some day 1 downloadable items.

9:12 - Halo: The Master Chief Collection! Comes with Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta, as well as Halo: Nightfall and more. They also reveal the Halo channel. Oh? Even as a former Halo diehard, this seems...unnecessary. I'm sure it'll easily have an audience, though.

9:16 - Playthrough of remastered Halo 2 campaign. As expected, lookin' real good!

9:17 - Discussion about the ranking system for Halo 2's remake. They announce that the ranking system will be skill-based, and identical to leveling in Halo 2.

9:21 - The fourth of six remastered multiplayer maps: "the legendary Sanctuary". They show off a gameplay demo with a 2v2, featuring some genuinely-recognizable Halo 2 pros.

9:22 - Dev diary talking about the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta. Brief looks at everything. Very quick looks at maps and armor. Midship remake stands out. Beta lasts from December 29th - January 18th.

9:24 - Phil Spencer comes back on stage to close the show.

9:26 - "We listened." Ability to pre-order and pre-download selected titles to your console. Meh, gross. We don't need easier pre-ordering, do we? And with that, it's the end of the show!
