EQoA Updates!

uly 31, 2003 Freeport is under attack by Orcs! Orcs have breeched the city walls and sporadic fighting rages in the city proper. Anyone traveling to and from Freeport is advised to use extreme caution! People arriving on coaches have been known to be attacked as soon as they arrive so again, be wary! NPC Updates: In general NPCs were not correctly using all of the abilities available to them. For instance, Shaman type NPCs were not correctly casting Spirit of Wolf spells on themselves or their fellow monsters. This has been corrected and you will want to take stock of what type of npc you are about to engage and judge them appropriately. Should you see merchants selling Alchemy spells or other such new npcs, don't be alarmed. While you can't play an Alchemist yet (you will need the Frontiers DVD to do so) you will be able to get a glimpse of what their spell line up is starting to look like. Creatures in the Hidden Valley region now have appropriate Hate Radius and kill penalty. Narticus in the Elemental Towers regions, given the powerful items that could be obtained from him, is a bit rarer now. Tradeskills: Crafted weapons that are of a type that could be wielded in the off hand (secondary) are now flagged as such. Previously all crafted weapons were primary only. Weapon crafting molds are now available in Neriak. You should now see a visible effect when using crafted weapons with procs when the proc goes off. Experience: There is now a hard cap in place for how much experience you can gain for any one monster kill that scales for level. It was never our intent that any player could, through convoluted or lengthy means, overcome a significantly higher NPC and gain levels worth of EXP. Spells and Abilities: Increased recast timer on Necromancer pact spells to 12 seconds. The level 40 Druid Inflame spec DoT damage was increased slightly and the scaling decreased slightly. This makes the spell perform better over the level 30 Emblaze DoT when it is first obtained. Emblaze remains unchanged. Items: Changed all 4 Mithril Hematite Jewelry pieces to give fire resistance instead of cold resistance. The Diminutive Shortblade now has appropriate damage for its level, rarity and repair costs. Updated the Huntress' Bow to be of the appropriate level. Updated a number of items that had either too low or non existent AC values. Frigid Boots are no longer usable by the Ranger class. The Orb of Cooling from the Isle of Dread is now equipable

past Bison?
# Aug 01 2003 at 8:55 PM Rating: Decent
Has anyone actually got past the part with Bisons' riddle yet? People keep mentioning Serpent Hills but that doesn't seem likely to me since I have a friend that is lvl 18 and he got the quest.

I don't think the quest is to actually kill anything either. I believe it to be to either find the true prophet or the location where the true trouble is.

I originally was told plains meant Karana Plains, which is Druid's Watch area. I found nothing there. I took the serpent to mean Serpent Spine river and mayve the griffon being the name of a volcano so I checked the Volcano Shrine near DM, again to no avail.

I was trying to think of characters with intelligence. I tried the observatory no one would talk to me. I tried Saerk, obviously the guy is no prophet. I think I may be looking to hard into Bison's riddle or misinterpreting it (that has to be an easy thing to do). But I would really like some help here if anyone has gotten further.

I went to Wyndhaven with a friend after getting the quest, and found a new NPC there its a troll named Dertax something, I cant remember, we thought he had something to do with the quest so we tried talking to him and got nothing so we both killed him and lost faction with Wyndhaven and got his topnot, but haven't gotten anywhere else with it.

Has anybody tried going to Serpent Hills zone and taking a look at the griffons there, such as the Nest Protectors, or perhaps even better, the Elders?

Also, keep in mind that maybe you're not looking for a serpent or a griffon at all, you're probably looking for the True Prophet who may or may not be an orc. If so, it's going to be somewhere west of Freeport (not hard since practically everything is west), but we've all had quests that give bad directions ... west does not mean exactly west 85% of the time, could be south-west, could be south by south-west.

According to the quest info the orcs have raided Grobb (one of southern most zones), Halas (one of norther most zones), and Freeport (one of the eastern most zones) in the past, so you would think that the answer to the riddle lay somewhere in one of the extreme western zones. So, perhaps I am wrong about Serpent Hills and the high-level griffons there.

My last wild guess is, well, wild. Ferran's Hope, though I haven't been there personally, would seem to be a plains type area as it lay right between DF Citidel (desert) and Highpass Hold (woodland) ... (and coincidently, almost exactly in the middle between Halas and Grobb). If it is plains country, it may be worth taking a look around there as well since it's west of Freeport and there are orcs there (blacktongue orcs - something to do with blackened fist?).

Just a few thoughts.

i've tried the serpents lair near darva and all over the western region of freeport, found nothing. my guess is the zones freezeblood village, diren village, or an extreme would be mount hatespike. diren village was created by the barbarians as a means against the orcs; there were several references specifically about freezeblood orcs. the north and south could be halas and diren, and the west could be either freezeblood village or perhaps anywhere west from bison. i personally think these directions are about as good as when the drop information on a rare item is only: "this item is found on creatures"....

Serpent Hils would definitely be a no go. This quest was available to lvl 20 chars. I can't see how a lvl 20 or a group of lvl 20s for that matter could survive attacks by 30-40 lvl MOBs. I found nothing there. Also, I'm thinking that blood might be a reference to crimson and as far as the burning griffon is concerned I think this whole thing might be a tower or a statue.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 01 2003 at 12:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This quest is obtainable by people with a good faction, from what I can gather and there is no lvl cap as of yet beacause a lvl 5 Dwf warr pally got it. Anyway, here is what bison tells you in case none of you wrote it down.

I think the "tracks you don't recognize" are from the war hogs. If you notice, the only started to appear after one of the more recent updates and their drop descriptions say something to the effect that the pelts are from creatures that aren't native to Tunaria.

The popups started appearring almost a month ago ... they were the first sign that the orcs were up to something, and this "raid" on freeport is the result.

i was wondering the same thing. i mean supposedly alot of the races in this game are at war with each other i.e. Humans and Gnolls, Elves and Dark Elves, Orcs and Everybody else, etc. it would be nice to see them start attacking each other. i mean think of it, one day ur running somewhere in Tunaria, then u see this mass battle of NPCs out there. i think it would add a cool twist to the game.

We get enough lag as it is when we visit Highpass Hold or Darvor Manor. I could just imagine the servers shutting down if they were to do a Braveheart battle sequence. They can only post so many MOBs, NPCs and Chars before it starts affecting our gameplay. It would be cool though.

dude stop being so cheap, cancel the dail up and get dsl or cable. dont whine about lag when its just your own fault.
Smitty
# Aug 01 2003 at 2:05 AM Rating: Decent
In Proudpine, people keep killing gUard smitty because he won't talk to them.
And I am a Troll, with Friendly faction with FP, and I got the quest. Now I just gotta get Halas Faction. . .
And I think the answer to the riddle has something to do with the EQOA website. Go look at frontiers, it shows a piccy of a Chimera. 4 headed beast. methinks that, since the chimera is part bird, part snake, part lion, and since griffons are part lion and bird, maybe combine Griffon and Snake to make Griffon with alchemy.

Just a thought from your Friendly neighbourhood basher'

Well, I think that it won't be solvable till EQOAF comes out. I also think that they put it in so that the EQOAF Beta testers have a new quest to do. Just some thinking.

Okay, I've seen the notices the GMs will ocassionally put out about "using any glitch to exploit unfair character advancement will result in account discipline" or some other crap like that. With this update, they are finally putting an end to the ability to massively power level low level chars with a higher level one--something that I was informed by a GM that was considered illegal. Well, it's nice to see that the wonderful people at SoE have taken time out of their busy day of making sure the servers go down right as I become visible in a field full of red MOBs to actually fix a glitch. Of course, the fact that this update seemed to add about five more glitches should probably go unmentioned but anyways, I digress. Anyways, I'm gonna go look at the new Alchemy skills that I can't play and fight the orcs that never appear and maybe then I'll go fishing. Hope to see you there, fellow satisfied customers.

(It's not that I'm bitter or anything, I'm just starting to think up better things I can do with $10 a month)

I am a lvl 32 DELF Rogue. I tried to talk to Smitty for the quest, like everyone said, he wouldnt talk to me. SOOO then i put on Mortal Mask (human form) and talked to Smitty, he talked to me this time. It allowed me to ask if he knew anything about the orcs, and then it craps out. He wont give me any information at all. I think it is a bs glitch, really wish this stuff would be play tested before being implemented! Ok...so thats my rant.

I wanna know why they're even bothering implementing the Alchemy merchants that we can't use when there are still tradeskills we're supposed to get on THIS EQOA (like tailoring). Sounds like someone needs to remove thy head from thy darkside.
RE: head+arse=SoE
# Jul 31 2003 at 10:30 PM Rating: Decent
Alchemy merchants are available so you can see whats out there and get an idea of what to expect for the new Class once Frontiers is released. As far as the other Tradeskills those are still undergoing more development and are not ready for show.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 01 2003 at 9:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) What's the difference? We all knew Alchemy was going to be a tradeskill anyway, right? It's not like SoE just dropped a jaw-dropping, "hey look at this cool new tradeskill we'll get to use in Frontiers" bomb on us. It makes no sense putting tradeskill merchants into the game for a tradeskill that we can't use. If those other tradeskills aren't ready to be implemented then maybe the time preparing the Alchemy merchants would've been served better giving us a tradeskill we can use now instead of in 4 months or so.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 02 2003 at 1:03 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm under the impression that Alchemy isn't a tradeskill, but instead a new class that will be playable in EQOAF. But yes, we need the other tradeskills.
RE: head+arse=SoE
# Aug 02 2003 at 11:10 PM Rating: Good
It's both, actually. Here's part of an e-mail I received from station.com:

"New Playable Race, the Ogre - These massive beings are brutal warriors and wield powerful magic

<b> New Playable Class, the Alchemist - Become a master of powerful spells and the unique alchemy trade skill</i>

New Areas - One continent, three cities, hidden planes, newly discovered zones and forbidden areas

Updated Graphics - Redesigned and highly-detailed player character models, armor and "pets"

New Items - Hundreds of new items to acquire, barter, trade and sell

Class Mastery System - Specialize your hero in many new and powerful ways

New Non-player-Characters (NPCs) - Dozens of new and fierce non-playable characters to battle

Level 60 Cap - Increased player character cap (60) for greater character development

New Quests - Challenging new quests to discover and conquer all."

Whether only the Alchemist class is the only class that can use the alchemist tradeskill remains to be seen. I don't wanna sound like I'm not greatful for what SoE has done w/ EQOA because I am very greatful. Overall, they have done a fantastic job w/ the game and have exceeded my expectations. The updates they have given have been notably worthwhile and have made the EQOA environment a better place for all of us, IMO. That's what makes me wonder what their train of thought was when they added a tradeskill that we cannot use for another few months (at least) when there are still more that we can use right now.

FREEPORT MAYEM
# Jul 31 2003 at 6:08 PM Rating: Decent
I've gotten on and off today checking on the raid, at one point there were three orcs that spawened simultaneously, each dropping a rare, all orcs have been lvl 34 or lvl 35; since then there has been one to two orcs per hour, mainly spawning by the bank in freeport. the quest so far: talk to guard smitty, he asks for 500 tunar, gives you lukewarm information; talk to him again, he gives you a quest to speak with elder joram of Halas for more info about the orcs; elder joram sends you to Bison who is south of Halas in a cave slightly to the east; Bison then spouts off much jibberish ending with what is left in your quest log: "...will bathe in serpent's blood and be warmed by the burning of a griffon." this is where i am, they are the remnants of a riddle that gives you a direction for the next part of the quest, i am lvl 35, no clue on the starting lvl for this quests, so far evil races have not been able to talk to guard smitty, can anyone please contribute info on what do after talking to Bison???
