Looks like SOE's spending the weekend working the kinks out of the last update.  Pex posted on the official forums just before 11pm Pacific August 15:

We have some hotfixes we are pushing live. The servers will be down for about an hour.

I don't have a final list, but this maintenance should fix the whisper and guild display issues. Chefs who had a problem logging into the game should be ok to do so now.

Other issues are being looked into, these are the ones being updated at this time.
