Fortune League Facebook Game to Cease Operations

Sony Online Entertainment announced yesterday that Star Wars Galaxies will be shutting down at the end of this year, but it turns out that's not the only SOE game that's closing its doors. Fortune League, the Facebook strategy game based in the EverQuest II universe, will cease operations on July 11. Here's the official announcement that was posted on the application and e-mailed to players:

"As of Monday, July 11th this Facebook game will no longer be operational. In the meantime, you may continue to play and redeem prizes until the conclusion of this final season. However, the ability to add Station Cash funds to your wallet will be disabled on Friday, June 24th. Any existing funds in your wallet can still be used until the game is turned off.

Beginning on Monday, July 11th, you may request a refund of the non-promotional Station Cash in your wallet if you play Fortune League and do not also currently play any other SOE game (EverQuest II, Free Realms, etc.) where you can still continue to use the Station Cash in your wallet after this Facebook game has been turned off. If you are eligible for a refund, please contact a Customer Service. Unused purchased trades will also be refunded."

SOE and Fastpoint Games launched Fortune League in January, so the game had a pretty short lifespan.

Fortune League Brings EverQuest II to Facebook

Sony Online Entertainment and Fastpoint Games have teamed up to launch Fortune League, a new strategy Facebook game based on EverQuest II. Players can use the live trading market to purchase a party of heroes and take on weekly quests for a chance to earn in-game rewards in EQII and EQII Extended.

So why make an EverQuest II Facebook game? According to Kelly Perdew, CEO of Fastpoint Games, "Fortune League aims to provide existing players with a fun, new way of engaging with the depth and adventure of EQII, in short, snackable sessions, while also introducing new players and creating a new revenue source for the franchise."
