Allods Online Volume 2: Rise of Gorluxor is Coming

Normally, we're not ones to pick on fairly low-budget expansion trailers, but you this is one darn low budget trailer for Allods Online. And you can't even tell what's coming in this expansion!

Luckily, you've got us here to tell you all about Allods Online's Volume 2 expansion, dubbed "Rise of the Gorluxor." In this new volume, players will be given the chance to challenge a "formidable" new raiding boss: Gorluxor, a great mage "surrounded in mystery and intrigue that players must solve before confronting his final form." Interestingly, within the press release the Gala Networks team notes that as players make their way through the life and times of Gorluxor, they will also need to determine if Gorluxor is, in fact, an enemy at all. Intruiging!

Also included within this expansion comes a boatload of new content and fixes, as well as the "evolution" of Astral allods, meaning that many allods have been changed, improved or completely revamped. As well, a new Arena of Death is also making its way into Allods Online. You can read the entire list of patch notes on the Allods Online forums, and the new volume is set to launch tomorrow night!

Allods Online Gets a New Producer

It's always sad to see MMO families losing the people who helped build them up, but in this competitive industry, I suppose that's just the way it goes. Either way, a few days ago, Allods Online's old Producer and community buddy, Darren Allarde (better known as CHOMP in-game) decided to move on from Allods Online, and so he has formally passed the torch on to Allods' newest producer, Kenny Yan.

Perhaps this will signal a new direction for the development and growth of Allods Online, or maybe it will just be a changing of the guards and on to business as usual, but fans of CHOMP and his deep level of in-game interaction will certainly miss him. Kenny Yan has also just popped up his own introduction on the Allods Online website, and in it, he praises CHOMP for his personal relationships that he has built with the community, and Kenny notes that he hopes to also achieve this level of familiarity with players.

Best of luck in the future, Darren Allarde! The Allods Community will miss you!

Allods' First Expansion Coming July 7th

Allods Online is getting their first expansion, entitled Volume 1: Revelations of Gipat, and it's coming July 6th in Europe and July 7th in the US. The new expansion introduces a new zone, new content and new missions, but most importantly, a lighter penalty for dying.

Removed from the game is the much hated "Fear of Death" debuff penalty that decreased a player's stats by 25% when they died. "Fear of Death" could be avoided through the use of items, but, hey, we play RPGs to progress, not to regress, hence the penalty's unpopularity.

Replacing "Fear of Death" is a new system that curses items. The biggest improvement over "Fear of Death" comes from the fact that it doesn't happen 100% of the time. Every time a player dies, a curse will be put on a random item. If the item is uncommon or lower, the curse will be nullified, but if the item is a rare or higher, the item's stats will be reversed. So, if a sword gave you +8 wisdom, it would now give you -8 wisdom.

Players can shake the curse by purchasing Scrolls of Purification from the item shop, or avoid it altogether by wearing Holy Charms. Check out more about Volume 1: Revelations of Gipat here.

Allods Online: Gala-Net Announces First Expansion

In the recent news post, "Revelations of Gipat: The Lost Allod," gPotato and Gala-Net announced the first expansion being developed for Allods Online. Titled "The Mysterious Allod of Gipat." the expansion focuses on the allod (an island, as they are called in the MMO) of "Gipat," which has been lost somewhere in the Astral for decades, according to the initial post. When the news of a "cryptic black stone" that allows adventurers to travel to the long-lost allod reaches the capital cities, players are sent to investigate the forgotten land.

Upon arrival, players are met by a "strange little dragon who believes that each and every visitor may be the Chosen One." Players will be charged with completing a series of trials and obstacles to prove themselves in Gipat, while "the ghostly apparitions of its former citizens and beasts" roam the land. The publisher hasn't disclosed a release date yet; the initial announcement is a brief teaser with a short description of the expansion. You can read the full description after the jump, which also includes the first three screenshots from the expansion that Gala-Net posted with the announcement.
