Lets assume I have a burning desire for the rare BOA sword you get from solving Troll fragments. This item is not available until you hit sLvl 450. Does it matter what I resolve in the way of Troll solves before I hit 450? Are there things in other words that I need to get out of the way or does that not matter?

Everything I've read says it's totally RNG. Other than having as many troll pieces as possible without going over the cap, there's not much you can do.

There is a theory, that it does actually matter. Archaeology rares explained. Basically, if there is a particular rare you are looking for, you want to avoid solving any artifacts until you reach the skill level necessary to solve that particular item. There is still RNG involved, but the more uncommon artifacts you solve, the lower the percentage you have of discovering a rare.

I've experienced this to some effect with NE rares. I've discovered all the lower level rare ones, and I keep finding the same uncommon artifacts I've already found. I've solved very few troll or dwarven artifacts, so I probably have a higher chance of discovering those rares.

The only thing is, a lot of people saved troll pieces until they got to 450 just to try for Zin'rokh, Destroyer of Worlds before Blizz put the cap in, and they were still complaining about how rare it was. If that theory held any water...

On solve 1, there is a 99% chance to not get the sword.
On solve 2, 92 results are a common, 1 is the sword. 98.9%
3. 85/1. 98.8%
4. 78/1. 98.7%
5. 71/1. 98.6%
6. 64/1. 98.5%
7. 56/1. 98.2%
8. 49/1. 98%
9. 42/1. 97.7%
10. 35/1. 97.2%
11. 28/1. 96.6%
12. 21/1. 95.5%
13. 14/1. 93.3%
14. 7/1. 87.5%

Chance on NOT getting the sword... ~64%. I'm not buying that 1 in 3 people that waited until 450 to try to get Zin'rokh got it in there first 14 solves. And initially, that was the suggestion from everyone; wait until 450 so you would have a ton of fragments saved up.

Like I said, it's a theory. Smiley: tongue It might help, it might not. It certainly doesn't harm anything by waiting to solve those artifacts until you reach level 450.

Well one thing is clear, there seems to be nothing to be gained by resolving any more fragments when as in my case they are not even going to give skill bumps for another 6.5 levels. Thanks all for the input.

I got a Zin'Rokh through the normal course of leveling Archaeology, I wasn't even particularly looking for it... And I guess I must have been over 450 when I got it.

The thing about random events, is that people are hellbent on proving that they aren't random for some reason. Just keep doing troll solves and you'll eventually get it.

Also I'll eventually get the Tol'vir mount when it's failed to even give me a rare solve in over 200 solves and I'm missing 3 rares from them... it'll happen eventually.
