Herbing/Gathering and refresh ratesFollow

I am very illiterate when it comes to video settings and the such---my computer is one that can handle max settings without a problem so I have them set as such.

However, I do find that when I'm herbing the nodes often take a bit to appear on my screen. When I am flying through an area to herb it seems there are no herbs to find, then I decide to just stand still for a few seconds and a node will appear. I have a feeling I am missing quite a few nodes because of this and am wondering if there is a particular refresh rate that may improve this (or other setting). I'm also wondering if the max settings in fact are a negative thing in this situation.

Any advice would be appreciated:-)

Thanks!

This is an issue of the server and client disagreeing about where you are, I think. It happens to me all the time.

It likely has nothing to do with your PC or internet connection. Server lag is what causes it, I'm pretty sure.

I sometimes find that flying closer to the ground makes the nodes appear easier. I figure it's because the positioning system has an easier time with it, for whatever reason.

This happens to me too. Makes you wonder how many nodes you fly over without even noticing. lol

What class are you?

Back in BC before I dropped herb on my druid I almost never had this problem. So flying at 280% speed didnt affect it.

I now notice this happening a lot more now that my dk is my farmer, considering he has on a pale horse his speed is 300% now.

Might be because of this I don't know. Just merely a thought.

I have a feeling that may well be the answer which i help to combat by using Carbonite with an extra window showing all possible spawn points and the original window set for showing real spawns and just stopping for a second near a possible node spawn and quite often one will show up , that is if i have not already visually spotted the spawn .

Although my frame rates are always above 70 and the server to client always below about 30ms i still see what looks like missing frames , for sure it is not smooth movement in places like dalaran when it is busy which makes me think it is a server to client issue and more likely the server struggling to keep up though ? .

Thanks for your responses---I am a night elf druid btw (best herbers out there--lol). I will stop messing with my settings now then and come to terms with the fact that I might miss a plant:-)

Thanks!

Arex makes a good point - I think it might have to do with speed.

I don't often have this problem, but I've only really noticed it in outland. My guess is that the increase in speed of travel has some how messed it up a bit. I can only imagine that moving faster makes the issue more common...???

Well, your position change is much greater when you move faster.

The system likely does a check ever X ms to see where you are.

If you are moving at 100% speed, then you may have moved 10 places (I don't care what actual system they use. "places" is just a term for a distance measure, each place being equal).

But, at 280% speed, you'll have moved 28 places.

So, you may have passed into a node window in that time. So, when the system runs THAT check, it'll appear very close to you and/or have a delay showing.

[EDIT]

And I would not be remotely surprised if the node-check was run 10% or less of the position check. This is why Blizz doesn't want faster mounts, it puts too much stress on the system.

I have watched nodes de-spawn in front of me. I was not moving.
Further I have watched them re-spawn 20-30 seconds later. This
would show up on the mini-map in the way the OP described.
