Notes on BC Trade skillsFollow

So I spent some time on quests yesterday in Hellfire Peninsula, but got tired of the grind after a while. So I decided to focus on my trade skills.

I am an Alchemist/Herbalist, a cook, a fisher, and a medic, all maxed to 300 on Monday. One of my first tasks when I reached the Outlands was to find my trainers and purchase the 300-375 skill.

First Aid
I bought my Master First Aid book and the Netherweave and Heavy Netherweave Bandage books. Netherweave Bandages require 330 to learn and it took me about 5-6 stacks of Runecloth to obtain 330 skill. And from my questing I had a stack and a half of Netherweave to take me to about 345 skill.

Fishing/Cooking
I didn't come across any bodies of water in Hellfire Peninsula so I went west to the Zangarmarsh. I fished some right by the Cenarian Refuge. At a skill of 400 (+25 pole and +75 lure), I caught 30+ Ribbed Gill Trout and a couple other assortments. I explored Zangarmarsh and found Zabra'jin, a Darkspear Trolls outpost. There I purchased a recipe (requires 300 Cooking) for the trout and quickly skilled up to 331 Cooking. It's now green so I'll need to find a new recipe if I want to finish my push to 375.

Herbalism/Alchemy
Not much to say here - I actually went back to Azeroth after training and did a couple circuits of the Eastern Plaguelands for Dreamfoil. I picked whatever I came across to get my herbalism to 315. After returning to the Outlands, I came across some Felweed and Dreaming Glory and was able to pick both. In my travels in Zangarmarsh, I found a dead bog monster that was "Pickable" i.e. like skinning for herbalists. However it required a skill of 320 and I was not quite there.

With the collected herbs, I've been able to get alchemy to 320 so far. Not too shabby professions-wise for a day's work. I had more fun exploring and working on my skills than doing quests.

I've missed the trout recipe, going to have to go back for that then. About fishing in Zangarmarsh, there's swarms of fish and debris up north (near Coilfang Reservoir) but 340 skill is not enough to fish there. Using an aquadynamic fish attractor to get 440 skill I was able to fish but still got an occassional 'your fish got away'. The pools yielded:

- Enormous Barbed Gil Trout (off hand)
- another off hand fish, don't remember the name
- 8 Zangarian Sporefish (used in cooking)
- 10 Handful of Fel Iron Ore Bolts (used in engineering)
- Several Scroll Cases containing 2-3 rank V scrolls each (Protection, Intellect etc)

To fish in the area you may also have to fight off some weak level 62 elementals, various frenzy fish (if you pull one, 2-3 more usually also swarm you) and naga.

For First Aid, I found Heavy Runecloth Bandage went 'green' before Huge Venom Sac so for efficiency you may want to start with Runecloth and finish with HVS.

Herbalism was a real challenge for the first few points due to competition. To get any real progress I left Hellfire Peninsula behind and explored far and wide. The 'basic' herbs like Felweed appears in all zones so if you don't mind dodging level 65-67 mobs you can get your initial skill-up in areas which you'll largely have to yourself. As Thermalnoise mentioned the Withered Giants and Withered Bog Lords in Zangarmarsh are also an excellent source of herbs. I'm now at 360 herbalism and with Alchemy at 346 I'm closing in on flasks and primal might transmute. My alchemy alt is at 320 skill and should be 340 tonight.

Cooking hasn't been a priority for me just yet, I levelled 20 points with Runn Tunn Tubers from Dire Maul and then another 6 points on Chunk of Basilisk. The food buffs are extremely nice, I just haven't fought that many mobs that drops cooking ingredients (no 'How to cook Orc' book in the game yet!).

Definitely enjoying getting into the tradeskill levelling again.

Do you remember where you purchased that recipe?

Last night, I stumbled on "Cookie One Eye" in Thrallmar by the stables. He sells a recipe for Ravager meat. Unfortunately it's already green to me since I skilled up on the fish previously.
